Hey guys
Just got back from my thanksgiving trip to arkansas. My father in law had a heart attack while we were there... so needless to say my exersize kinda didnt happen. I only did week 5 day 1........ so I am starting week 5 over today. I am back at home and everything has settled down so there is no reason that I cant jump right back in. I am actually looking forward to it. |

Shelly, if I ever get up an hour early to go running I will have to change my name!
Beyond all my imagingings. You are just ace. Were you really as much a non-runner as I am? |

I was, truly. I dislike exercise in general, and of all forms of exercise running is my least favorite next to bicycling. I cannot believe it's actually starting to grow on me. Oh, and I'm not a morning person either, so to be able to drag my abs out of bed an hour early to go jogging in the dark was a huge surprise for me. And while I'm not quite old and decrepit, it's not like I'm young and in great shape, either!
Part of what keeps me going is knowing that if I make one excuse not to do it, I might keep making excuses until I give it up completely. So MWF, rain or shine, wind and snow, no excuses as long as my legs will keep moving me along.

![]() This is so good to hear. Thanks Shelly. I did 20 mins treadmill today and couldn't resist doing a little bit of jogging as in C25K during the last 5 mins. Not like me at all, so maybe there is hope.Gavinsmom, we are following each other around these boards. I am thinking that if I got off my butt and left the laptop...I'd be burning more calories! I know this house could do with a clean. |

Hi Ladies!!
Just poppong in to say hello! just finished w8d2 and I am almost DONE!!! Then what? I am thinking one hour runner, also on the cool running website, basically getting you to the point where one of your weekly runs eventually gets to one hour! Frankly, I would be thrilled to speed up some and actually do 3 miles in 30 minutes (I am not even close).... BUT I just feel SO GOOD right now!! 28 minutes and I know it could have been 30-35 today!! Please, everyone, hang in there. This is an amazing program. |

Tymom, I'm right behind you, finishing Week 7 tomorrow. I was wondering the same thing, what to do at the end of it. I was thinking along the lines of increasing speed rather than time, I'm very slow and if I'm to run a 5K I need to pick it up a little.
This really is a great program. Aside from the health benefits of getting some regular exercise, it's made me look at myself from a completely different angle. |

Hi Everone!
I just wanted to pop back in and say YAY!!! Congrats!!! You guys are doing great! You are almost finished! I am so excited for all of you! KUTGW and you will be there in no time! This is the first week that I have exercised. I did a walk on the treadmill Wednesday, rested Thursday then hit it again today. Today, I did about 40 min (walk slow, walk fast, run for 1 min, and repeat). I actually felt the effort when running for only a minute! It felt good to push thru and am sure I will build back up again if I continue to work. I am trying not to focus on not being able to run for 30 min anymore. -darlene- |

OOO it felt tough today!
My legs felt really heavy but I have been in the gym every day this week so no real rest day.I did it though and then did a fit ball class which is all about core stability...very important for running I read. Nothing now for 2 days. Hey Ty's Mom, you are a runner! Shelly, ditto! I will be back in my London home next week and may be brave enough to run on Hampstead Heath instead of sticking to the treadmill. i will try to download onto my mobile as I don't have an MP3. Total technophobe.

Week 5 done! I ran for 20 minutes straight. At 10 minutes I was like ok I can do this, then when 16 rolled around I was like can I do this? But I was like I came to far to quit now.
I am a runner! ![]() |

gavinsmom! Isn't it a great feeling? You too are a runner! I think you'll be surprised by how easy Week 6 seems after that.cindy, I never thought I'd want an MP3 player until I read that you can download podcasts that tell you when to run and when to walk for each day. The music isn't quite my style, but it keeps my brain distracted while my legs keep running. I'm thinking of trying an audiobook after I finish week 9. darlene, you'll work up to it again, probably faster than you think. Quote:

Good morning! Week 8 Day 1 done, it was 20 degrees, brrr! I'm still in disbelief that I'm jogging at all, let alone 28 minutes straight
I think after Week 9 is done I'll keep going 30 minutes and work on increasing speed/distance for a month or two, then see how I feel about the one hour runner program. |

Goodmorning everyone. Week 6 day 1 done! I have to say it was pretty easy after that 20 minute run on saturday. I am so pumped. I cant believe I have come this far, and not only am I doing it, but doing it successfully. Who would have ever thought I would become a runner. I love it.
Shelly that is what I am gonna do when I am done with the program. I plan to run in a 5K this coming year, and I dont wanna be the last one in..... even if I was, it would still be cool just to complete it. Have a great day ![]()

I am having such a hard time. I feel so discouraged
![]() I am able to do it for about half way then I get pain in my ankles (a burning pain?) and I feel like I can't do it anymore. How can I get past this? Can anyone tell me what speeds on the treadmill you were going at the first week? |

I was going at a 2.7 the first week. Now I go around 3.2........ slow and steady wins the race. As far as the pain in your ankles, I had that bad last week but not from doing the couch to 5K....... from doing too much on my off days..... my hubby told me it was shin splints..... it seems to have worked itself out. But boy did it hurt( burn) it kinda felt like someone had punched me real hard in my ankle. ![]() Oh and are you stretching good before you start? If not, that will make a big difference too. |

When you say that you were going 2.7 is that during the walking or the running part? I am walking at 2.7, and running at 3.6 -- am I over doing it? I really appreciate your help -- I really don't want to give up after seeing how well you all are doing. |

Hi, canadiandina - I'm sorry your having trouble with this. I can't answer for speed because I'm not using a treadmill, but so far I'm not pushing myself to go very fast, just to go. But for your earlier question, I go in the mornings on an empty stomach. Roll out of bed, let out the dog, change into jogging togs, grab the dog and MP3 player and go. Puppy gets half the credit for my success, he's turned out to be a pretty good running partner.
