Hi Everyone!

You are all doing so oooo good on the C25K program! I took a rest day and will do W9, D2 Wed & W9, D3 Thursday. I normally run M/W/F but need to squeeze the last two days together because we will be on the road Fri morning. I don't want to risk not getting that last run in!

Regarding rest days:
I agree with Suga! You have to be sure not to over train and risk a set back. When I started the C25K, that became my workout priority/foundation so I added other stuff in gradually, based on how I felt.

Before this program, I had been working out since '02 so I wasn't really at 'couch' level yet but did not have a solid cardio base. (some days I could do intense cardio, other days not) That's why I decided to go back to level one and build a good base.

On my non-run days, I often do light cardio or strength training now that the run days don't seem as challenging.

I am getting ready to go home for the day but wanted to check on you guys! I am impressed!

Good Morning!
I completed W9/D2 today. I am pretty tired after working all 7 days last week but think I did ok. I am still only at 2.3 mi in 30 min but am happy enough with running 30 min. I will work on distance. I am doing D3 tomorrow then will probably be out of touch until Tuesday.

ButterflyA -- I am not crazy about the music on that podcast either but know I pushed harder listening to it than I would have on my own. Weeks 8 and 9 I have been listening to my own music since the runs are longer and it's easier to time myself. That really has helped with the boredom factor I have when keeping the same pace for longer periods of time.

Gavinsmom -- Good luck today! I am sure you will breeze through! Can't wait to hear how you do!

Suga -- Awesome run! Wow! 4 miles!!! That's wonderful! You have earned the right to be proud!! What do you think? Should I concentrate (once I am finished with C25K tomorrow) on being able to do 3 mi or more in 30 min --or-- should I concentrate on running longer than 30 min --or-- alternate longer runs with faster/shorter runs?

I need to try to concentrate on work now but am really tired today. I am glad this is my Friday! I will be up early tomorrow but will probably sleep a lot on the drive!

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

When I finished C25K, I still focused on running for time. I did the 30 minutes for a few weeks with a 40-45 minute run thrown in. I did this for several weeks. At the end of the 2nd week, I was running 35-40 minute runs with a 50 minute on thrown in for endurance. You get the pattern? I only increased the time, when it felt right. Don't rush it.

Now, 2 months later, I focus on distance. Regardless of what type of running session I'm doing (HIIT, long run, hills), I run a minimum of 2.25 miles. That's a given. But now I'm shooting for 3 miles with 1 long run (4 miles) thrown in.

For me, running for TIME, gave me the motivation to keep "moving". I am still excited when I don't have much time to run, so I settle for a 30 minute hard interval run.........which gives me the same benefits, if not more than a long hour easy run.

I hope my babbling helped. Stay focused on time because get this....I still can't run 3 miles in 30 minutes! Speed is still not my focus.

What I was told long ago by a seasoned veteran runner was, "speed comes with time"...in other words, the more you run, the faster you get. That kinda disappointed me at first because all I could think of back then was "it will take me FOREVER to build speed!" Well, 3 running years into it now, I have to say that person was right.

When I first started really running, I was pushing a 12:30 mile pace. For me, that was as fast as I could go. I just kept working .... entering races...getting more miles under my belt ...

Today, 3 years into it, (and 3 years OLDER! ), I am doing 10:40 miles. The great news is, I'm faster and I did it WITHOUT INJURY because I took it slow, allowed sufficient rest/recovery days, and listened to my body. Can I get faster than 10:40? Hmmmm, I hope so. I'm just not gonna hurt myself trying to do it. PERSISTENCE AND TENACITY. Those are the keys to becoming a faster runner.

Hey ladies just finished W1D2.......... and it went great. I didnt realize that the reason the first session killed me was I was not jogging I was running for my 60 seconds. This time I slowed down like you guys said and it was a breeze. I didnt feel like I was gonna die, made it all the way through the 60sec.... could have gone longer. Not only that but I even sweated more, the sweat was actually running down my face. I feel good.
Maybe I wont have to repeat week one after all....... it is amazing when you do it right.......LOL

Hi Everybody! I haven't yet started the C25K yet but I am seriously considering it. I want to try to download the podcast this afternoon. However, I have been wanting to run again and I went a few mornings ago and 'tried" to run. I didnt do too bad, I took my time and tried to pace myself as well as I could. I did 1.4 miles, but honestly, I walked a good hunk of it. I just ran until I felt that I was uncomfortable and then stopped and walked until I could run again. My only question is, I have been having some pain in my right knee since then, and I have never had any type of knee problem what soever. It's not terrible, but it's fairly persistant, and I just wanted to get some advice on it from some of the veteran runners. Thanks so much.

SHOES SHOES SHOES.

Running shoes (not walking shoes, cross trainers or anything like that) are absolutely MANDATORY.

When I first started running, I had a serious bout of runner's knee caused by wearing worn out shoes. Even if your shoes aren't that old, they need to be replaced every 300-400 miles of running. If you are just starting out, then you need a good quality, supportive, cushioned running shoe. Go and get fitted in a shoe that fits your gait. If you have a running store close by, go there, they should know how to interpret your particular running style and get you in a good pair of shoes. Once I got the right shoe, I've never had a single twinge of knee pain since.

Goodmorning ladies......

Well today will be W1D3 for me. I started to do a 30 minute walk yesterday on the treadmill, but my butt was so sore. So I figured I better take a rest day like suggested, dont wanna overdo it. Isnt that funny that I am sore in wierd places? My butt is the worst( does that mean I am gonna get a pudunka dunk dunk) my right bicept is sore, the muscles in my lower back are a little too, and can feel it in my tummy too. I guess running is a all over workout........ Yay..

oh by the way I am down 1.2 more lbs today to 169.6 woohoo.....
only 1.6 to go till I hit that 50lb mark.

Well check back with you gals later after I finish my workout...

Have a great day everyone.....

W1D3 done

My calves were burning for a while when I first started; but quit after a while. I do make sure that I stretch before starting. Question, how long do you hold each stretch?

I am going to go ahead and move on to week 2 and see how things go, but if I need to repeat week 2 I will, I think I will do fine though.

Yay me...... I am doing it!

Hi all. I am SO BUMMED!!!!! I went and got running shoes and ran in them ONE TIME ...and raised the biggest fattest blisters on my big toe joint (where a bunion would be) on both feet. I was at an out of town meeting the past 2 days and had to walk around in stocking feet because I could not wear any of the shoes I brought.

Needless to day I cannot run until this clears up. Then I am going to the running specialty store and get proper shoes. Bummed, I tell you!

Hi guys, still here, still doing the workouts (LOVE them!), just haven't posted much bc I'm also doing BFL and all of the exercise, eating, supplements, plus school and work throw me into a tizzy lol... I need new running shoes and know I do, but I have weird arches (almost flat-flooted) and I'm broke. My bday's in a week, and I asked for money to get new shoes, so hopefully I can get them!
The Asics I have now are fine, but worn down. So I'm doing the best I can and taking it slow and hoping for my new shoes!

I'm sorry! The same thing happened to me when I decided (like an idiot) to change my brand of running shoes (after all, they're all the same, RIGHT? WRONG!)

My feet had been most comfy in New Balance 991s or 1221s, but I had seen ALOT of runners in my races wearing ASICS, so I thought what the heck and tried a pair .. well .. my feet were like "I DON'T THINK SO!!" and I ended up with a blister about 3 inches in diameter right across my arch of my right foot! Talk about PAIN .. Well the shoes immediately went back to the store at which point I became a NB'er for LIFE .. I've never had ANY problem like that with NB .. so the moral of the story is, once you find running shoes your feet LOVE, DO NOT CHANGE BRANDS.

Take it easy until the blister goes away and then get yourself a "happy foot" shoe!

It was great for me. I completed it. Running speeds up weight loss as long as your knees are good. I still enjoying running but have been doing a bit more work on the elliptical and pumping iron

Morning all..... sorry I haven't been around much but I had out of town guests this weekend, so my time wasn't really my own!

I ran W, Th, and Friday last week and due to time constraints I took off Sat and Sunday. Today I ran a hard HIIT workout for 2.5 miles and I feel back on track!

Sorry to hear about all the blisters, but it's all about balance and finding the right balance!

Good luck to you all.

Hey guys!
You are all going great! Sorry about the blisters and knee issues but sounds like you are all getting the best advice!

I have been out of town since Thursday morning so have not been online to post until now. I did finish the C25K Thursday, as planned! That felt great! Since I have been so exhausted lately (mostly from working so many hrs) I have not decided whether to jump back in this week. My mom and son are coming down next week so will probably get back into it tomorrow or Thu morning. I just have not had a real break in a long time but can see so many things getting in the way next week and so on until after the first weekend in Nov! I will pop back in to report how I do w/o a program as soon as I start again!

Suga & Betty -- Thank you BOTH so much for the advice on what to do next!!!! I am excited about continuing to run and will definitely follow your recommendations along with tips from two other runners I know! It's nice to know that speed will come in time. I am more psyched about being able to run for 30+ minutes than my speed right now anyway. I really do not want to push to do too much and risk an injury or setback!

I wanted to add personals but have had to stop 3x to do work. I guess I need to focus on why I am here today

Have a wonderful day!

to Queen Betty.

I was short on time today (I overslept) and did a mile in 13:30. Now for me that's a RECORD since I normally ran/walked a mile in 20+ minutes.

So give it time............all of the benefits of running will manifest themselves and you'll look up and be surprised at the results.
