OK, playtime's over for me. Time for me to get serious! I'm off to a good start, jogged 44:30. I picked up the pace and where I usually have a 5 minute walk back to my house, I had to keep jogging... then started to pass my house with about 30 seconds left, and my pup sat himself down by the mailbox and wouldn't move another inch, guess he figured we were home, no reason to keep going

PalmTreeGal, if you google "one hour runner" (with the quotes) it's at the end of the first page that comes up on coolrunning. Basically it's still 3 days/week with rest days in between, Day 1 is always 30 minutes, then Day 2 and Day 3 are a little longer each time.

Faith, were you able to do the virtual 5K?

Marathon Mel!

I ran two miles this morning, it was really tough! I just ran for 21 minutes and I was just out of gas today. I think it had to do with my dinner last night- I had under 20 carbs yesterday (not really on purpose, it just how it worked out) and a very early dinner (5 pm) I just had no reserves this morning, and now I have a headache

Its been interesting trying to find a balance with carbs/energy. I feel best around 30-40 carbs (not net) with the majority of the carbs coming from veggies, or sometimes nuts.

How is everyone doing with upping the exercise and endurance and your carb intake? Do you feel like you need more, or less?

On a great note, I lost 4 lbs this week!

Great loss, janamonkey! I've found on the days I run that I seem to do best if I have an Atkins or Slim-Fast low carb shake and a little water first. I run first thing in the morning, and I don't want a big breakfast before and don't usually have time for any breakfast after. That's mostly the only time I drink the shakes.

congrats lovinlee on joining the C25K grads!
Jana, awesome loss, i know you've been waiting awhile for those lbs. I'm around the same carb level as you. I haven't noticed an energy problem. I try to run 2 hours after a meal. I'm only running 33-35 minutes, so i haven't found the need to refuel along the way. I get all my carbs from eggs, veggies, and nuts.

Shelly, nice that your dog knows how to pace you. I run very similar. i go out further than i run back, and leave space at the end to walk home, or if i'm feeling it, run a bit more. Once i get home, i stop, its always a finish line.

keep it up everyone!

lovinlee - congrats on completing the c25k.

I am redoing w1, last week I did 2 days of it, but had very bad sinus troubles. I didn't feel like running when my head felt like it was going to explode.

I ordered a refurbed ipod shuffle, I've never had one, even though I am a gadget freak. A different brand of treadmill at the gym counts up, but doesn't give a summary like the Precor ones do. It was easier to keep track of the jog/walk times.

Monday - W1D1 (redo) 30 minutes, 1.61 miles - this workout was very easy for me, almost effortless, but I am not going to push it.

Wednesday W1D2 (redo) 30 mins, 1.61 mis, ave HR 117, max HR 143 26.50 mins in zone 95-144 bpm. This workout felt a bit harder than Monday's did.

Either I will do W1D3 on Friday am, or Friday afternoon, depending if DH takes my truck to work (I'm off work tonight), I could walk to the gym it's 3 tenths of a mile to it. But it has turned cold with wind chills and not to sound like a wimp, I HATE the cold.

Happy workouts everybody.

Becky

ran 33 minutes, about 3.3 miles, give or take. didn't map it up, not too concerned with distance for the next few weeks, just want to add time.

went out for a run this morning down Universal blvd, they have such nice lush landscaping. anyway, apparently i made a wrong turn somewhere and the sidewalk dumps me out at an escalator. I see the escalator goes up to a sky bridge, so i figure that its just a pedestrian bridge to the other side, so i run up the escalator (it wasn't running) then start running across the bridge, at which point a security guard comes out of no where and starts yelling at me for running. so i slow to a walk, and i come up on several other guards all facing out standing at a bunch of turnstiles. So at this point i realize, besides running on the Universal Studios lot, i've effectively jumped the gate too. So i proceed to exit the park, while walking and get into a parking garage where i start running again. Unfortunately, i'm stuck on level 2 of the parking garage (that damn escalator again) and can't find out how to get down to grade. i finally find a staircase which i run down, and the door i try to get out of is labelled emergency exit only. So i continue to run on level 1 of the parking garage like a caged rat until i finally find an exit and head back home. Not my most effective run, but definitely my most interesting one to date. probably shy of 3 miles with the 5 minutes of forced walking.

Becky, I don't like cold weather much either. It's OK for snuggling in front of the fire with a blanket and cocoa, but as much as I don't like running, I like it even less in the cold.

Chris, that's pretty funny, glad you got out of there OK!

Going good, mum22! Jogged 45 minutes Sun, Tues, Thurs and Fri, most days I worked on pushing the pace a little. Today took the dog skating in the park for about 45 minutes, it was still a little chilly so we had most of the paths to ourselves.

hello!

this weekend it was kind of hot! Like 80 degrees, I got a little tan, but it was definatly different than jogging in the rain We had our first team meeting for Hood To Coast and I got kind of scared, basically it's like running 6 miles 3xs with 7 hour breaks in between!

i had a breakthrough run today, i went out feeling great and ended up running 42 minutes and i probably could have run another 10-15! I felt great afterwards, my heart rate never maxed, and i recovered in about 5 minutes. I hope its the start of something, rather than a fluke. I always would hit the wall around 30 minutes and then suffer to the finish sucking wind all the way.

Jana, i've got several friends that run hood to coast. they say its a lot of fun.

happy easter!

Week 3 down! Looking forward to starting week 4. I'm amazed at how quickly the body adapts doing this only 3 days a week. My heart rate recovery has improved substantially already.

Everyone here is a true inspiration. I am starting the C25k this coming week. I am going to do weights on M-W-F and the workout on T-Th-Sat. Sunday is going to be my day off as I have my grandson to play with that day.

I downloaded the podcast...not really sure what I think about the music, but will give it a try.

Keep up the good work everyone...you are all so inspiring.

Welcome, Sheri! Yeah, the music isn't anything I'd listen to on purpose, but the podcasts really helped get me through those intervals.

sweet&sugarfree, I'm glad you're still with us , quitting smoking will be a challenge all on its own. When you're ready, you'll do it.

janamonkey - that sounds like a lot of work, but also a lot of fun doing as a team.

PalmTreeGal, you're doing great! KUTGW

Sue, I'm still waiting for my body to crave running, not sure that's ever going to happen

Chris, that's great! Keep it going...

I missed my run this morning, thunderstorms rolling through. I'll run in the heat, rain, cold, or snow, but not when there's any chance of lightning I'm too chicken. It's supposed to clear up by tomorrow.

This should be week 4 for me and I haven't gone yet. I just can't find the motivation. I think I've been staying up too late and not getting enough sleep. Ate crap today too. ??? Has an alien stolen my brain?

palm tree gal, just look at your avatar, that should be motivation enough. Thats where you want to go, right? eating crap and not exercising will get you back to 165, not back to 130!

had a light run yesterday, didn't run in the morning as i had to go to DMV and get my FL drivers license. I'm going to have to adjust to 89 degrees and 94% humidity real soon, since i'm going to be dealing with that for the next 5 months. I need to work on a hydration system. I carried a small 20oz bottle of water with me, but it was kind of annoying to hold it in my hand and have it slosh around.

45 minutes yesterday, today 25 minutes. DD went with me, she hasn't run since HS (couple years) so we didn't go as long as I usually do, but she kept up pretty well. Shooting for another 45 minutes tomorrow.

PalmTreeGal, the alien that stole your brain came to live in mine yesterday, I completely caved and ate horribly all day long. Took DD to the airport this morning and I'm back on the straight and narrow.

Chris, I was wondering how you were doing with the humidity. Takes a little getting used to...

Shelly, I definitely run better in the morning than i do in the afternoons. got in 36 minutes today, i went out fast, covering the 1st mile in 9:20, and was almost out of gas by the end, but it was definitely a good workout!

sure is quiet around here, where are all our runners???!?!?!?

Hello everyone. I have had this chronic cough and it was really starting to affect my workouts. Went to the doctor and it turns out I have exercise induced asthma. Which is why I have never been able to run. Have me on a plan which should help me continue to move ahead with my workouts!

Helllooo everyone! I went for a short run today, it was warm and pleasant outside- but I do have to brag that I ran up a really big hill without dying today. Hills have always been scary for me- my neighborhood is flat so it hasn't been until recently that I have been 'searching' them out.

Mum22- what is the plan for the asthma? sometimes after long runs (4+) miles I cough and cough... hmmm...
