Yup PalmTreeGal, I get the need to go urgently sometimes. I'm not sure what it is.....cause I'll try to force everything out before I leave the house - sorry if TMI!!. It's quite scary! But mine is during the runs...I have stopped and just walked before until the feeling that I have to 'clench' goes away.

W8D2 down, ticked off, finished! I can't believe how much easier this is getting. To think that only a couple of months ago I though 60 seconds of running was going to be the end of me, to finding that all of a sudden the time is up!

Keep up the good work everyone!

How far along in the program are you? Because in the early weeks I think it would be okay to take a pup - you are running only in short bursts, which is how dogs choose to run naturally. Also you would be building her up just like yourself. I did not actually check with my vet, but I asked Hailey's breeder who used to work for a vet and knows a ton. She said it would be fine since Hailey will be getting fitter along with me. However, Hailey is a small dog and probably not prone to the joint issues big dogs get. I probably wouldn't have taken my lab along at 7 mos without the all-clear from the vet.

Lovinlee - the cramps don't really go away until an hour or so after I get home! And if I go to the bathroom nothing happens. It's really annoying. I keep meaning to do my ab video after my run but I feel too lousy to do it.

Hi all,

I just started the c25k this Monday. W1D1 1.57 mi, 118 avg HR, 142 max HR.
W1D2 1.57 mi, 121 avg HR, 151 max HR (which is getting out of the aerobic range for me). On Tuesday I did a light weight training and will do the same today.

I use the treadmill at the gym, I was a bit concerned with the 151 max HR. I did not perceive that my exertion was too much. My HR comes down quite nicely. I think that my HR monitor is accurate, I don't use the watch that came with it, the treadmill 'picks up' the signal. I was not fatigued after the workout so I think I am OK. If I have any problems I'll check w/ my doc - he's the one who said that I should go for a run LOL.

I also think that I will have to break down and buy an ipod, so I can have the podcast cues to run/walk. The time counts down on the treadmill, and when you adjust the speed it briefly flashes your pace, and I loose track of my times. When I exercise I kind of zone out and don't want to do the 'higher math'. teehee

Hope every one has a good day.

Becky

Becky! If you can swing the ipod, do it!!! It makes such a difference, IMHO. Congratulations on completing D2!

My pups just sit on the couch and watch me.

Becky - The podcasts really helped me when I started. Now, I am making playlists based on the times I need to walk vs run.

I walked for 1 minute during the 20 minute run on Friday and was very disappointed. I was sore over the weekend, so I tried mixing things up this week. On Monday I only jogged for 10 minutes, then walked for 50. Last night (Wednesday), I jogged for 25 minutes. I felt great.

Keep on running, everyone!

Did my run in the rain yesterday, we were pretty well soaked by the end of it. But it was a warm rain, so not too bad. robirdstx, I have the same problem with dogs here, lot of people have invisible fences but then the battery dies or something and here comes a big chow mix charging us in the street yesterday Lots of snarling and snapping and it backed off. I have a can of dog repellent (non-toxic citronella-based) I carried for a while. Guess I should get back in that habit.

Welcome, Becky! I second mumm22 and MnM, if you can get the ipod, go for it. The podcasts come in MP3 format too, you can get MP3 players pretty cheap now. That and good running shoes make a world of difference.

PalmTreeGal, I've never gotten any kind of cramps. Not sure how I got such a polite dog, but I am grateful because he's a big dog and his leavings are enormous.

lovinlee, you're getting close to graduation, are you going to do anything to celebrate? Are you going to go on to another training schedule? Amazing how fast it goes.

janamonkey, I've heard that a lot, not to take dogs running until they're at least a year old, I know that's especially important for the breeds which are predisposed to hip & other joint problems. Barney was 10 months when I started with him, but I'm pretty slow and at that point it was all just walking for him.

MnM, 25 minutes is great! have you ever seen the Dog Whisperer? He actually gets dogs running on a treadmill to get exercise.

Faith, how are you doing? Chris? Everyone else?

DOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I finished up W9D3 last night, ran a 5k in 30:38 shaved 7 seconds off W9D2, watch out beijing olympics, here i come

So Chris, what are your plans now? hmm, well first i need move to Florida (been in process of that all week) should be settled by tomorrow (at the phx airport marriott right now) but i'm thinking that i'm going to do a hybrid between the 10k runner and one hour runner. I'm going to set a 30 minute floor for running, but add time/distance as I feel it. there are definitely some days where you can feel like you could run another 10 minutes, and other days where you're struggling to get out of your driveway. i won't be going 5k to marathon, but in the next 3 months i'd like to get to 10k/1 hour pace. I'm also going to start running 4x/week and progressively get that to 6x.

now off to celebrate by getting on a plane. Need to find a running store in Orlando to get me some new shoes, which i promised myself i'd get once i graduated!

stay on it!

GO CHRIS! You must feel so great! Enjoy those new shoes when you find 'em.

Someone said to me the other day "You never see a fat runner." I took that to mean if we keep running we'll see goal in no time!

Oh, and as for running I usually do 3-4 miles or 45 minutes. I think that's too long for the puppy now, but when I am done I usually grab her and walk her for my cool down walk.

Yeah, that is probably too much solid running for a baby. Bet she loves the cooldowns though!

congrats currdog!!!! you must be so proud of yourself!!

welcome Becky!

I agree with MnM and currdog how some days seem easier than others to get through. Today I wasn't taking another jogging step when Mr Podcast said times up. But I did go about 300m further than the last time I ran.

Shelly - I kind of started my celebration last night. I went out and bought some new training clothes. This morning I wore short shorts for my W8D3 run I have legs with shape again whooohooo!! They still wobble a bit, but I can't see that when I'm looking ahead hee hee. Ego time....it's great to see blokes heads turn as they drive past!

45 mins janamonkey!! you champion!!

It's Friday here, and I'm soooo looking forward to a weekend sleep in.

Have fun everyone!!

Most definately!

When I bend my knee I've got those little lines that just out at the back, actually I now have knees! and my thighs now show dips where there is muscle, the 'triangles' at the top of my thighs are much smoother, and when I move my feet up and down you can see rises and falls in my shins (I'm not sure if any of that will make sense to anyone but me!). Also my arms have changed, and my chest.

I have this habit now of lying in bed and raising my legs up in the air and just checking them out

I sound so up myself....but when I first started, I could feel my belly jiggling. It no longer does that!! (although there is still a bulge).

I can't say how happy I am to of found this site, which put me onto the C25K. Definately one of the best things I've ever done for myself was to start jogging.

Lovinlee, the changes in your legs are another great motivator for me! I carry a lot of weight in my legs. That may never change but at least I can make that weight into muscle!

I cannot say how much I love these podcasts. I have tried to run before, many many times. I have tried in order to lose weight and I have tried because when my lab was younger he desperately needed the exercise. I have tried gradual programs similar to coolrunning's while staring at my watch. I have subscribed to Runner's World and run two 5Ks. The longest I ever ran at once was 7 miles without walking one step. But all along - I HATED IT! Every freakin' step! Total misery! And with these podcasts I don't mind a bit! It seems like I've barely started and it's over. I could conceivably become a real runner with these. At the very least, I can lose some weight and gain cardiovascular fitness which will benefit me in activities like hiking. God bless Robert Ullrey!

PalmTreeGal.......... I am with you on the podcasts. I couldn't do it without them. I tried to do W6D2 today, but it was so windy and I was supposed to go uphill, so I walked quickly instead and will try again on Tuesday.

did a 5k today, new course, new state, 34:08, well off my pace, but i encountered a hill that i didn't expect, and I went out too fast. Good learning experience on preparation if/when i ever want to think about getting competitive.

I think i'll just keep running at my pace and adding minutes for awhile.

keep up the good work everyone!

Word of advice: do NOT consume a batch of coconut bark (4 tbsp CO plus nuts, Davincis & cocoa) before a run. owwwww, my tummy! I don't think I've had such a clean colon since I did that lemon juice cleansing thing.

W9D2 done! Only one to go wooot wooot! I'm doing just over 5km - like a hundred meters or so, in the 30mins. I plan on doing my last run tonight....well last run before setting a new goal!

I'm with you on the wind factor mum22....it's great when it's behind you though

Chris it's not fair, every time you post your weight has gone down again!! Congrats!

Thanks to everyone for their support!!

Ouch, PalmTreeGal... thanks for the heads-up, I've got some CO on order and was planning to make some bark... I'll start with a very small batch.

Chris, great time on the 5K! Even though it wasn't your fastest, still, I believe the air is a little thicker here in the south and it takes just a little more out of you.

mum22, I've planned my route around the neighborhood to avoid running up the worst hills, but the wind is something else.

lovinlee, that's fantastic! I really liked the One Hour Runner schedule, although I haven't run for a full hour since I finished it.

I did the Virtual 5K today, 43:56. I know I'm slow but still that was much slower than I expected. I'm upping my schedule to jogging 4 days/week, will also pick up the pace and push myself just a little harder. I'll be running a real 5K in two months, would really like to get well under 40. And I guess if I want it bad enough, I will!

Shelly, what is the one Hour Runner Schedule?

A batch of the bark with 4 tbsp CO is a decent sized batch - the first time I ate the whole thing I felt quite ill! I did it today out of stress and anxiety over a big exam tomorrow and the next day. I knew better but totally reverted to "eat sweets under stress." At least it was a LC sweet. And no constipation worries!
