Bring on the name calling...
Did W7D2 last night but just couldn't pull myself out of bed this morning. In my defence, I'll be doing it tonight instead of hitting the pub ![]() |

I did W4D3 last night and I will be repeating it - not the entire week. During the 20 minutes, I walked for 1 minute.
Canadiandina - Keep in mind that you input your weight, so the numbers are different according to that, too. When my husband inputs his weight and does a lot less, he burns more calories and carbs. Here are the numbers for a 5 min warm up, 10 min jog, 1 min walk, 11 min jog, 5 min cool down: Weight 120-122 Walking @ 3.8 Jogging @ 5.0 150 Calories 26 Carbs Low numbers, but I'm not doing this to lose weight. W5D2 complete! I am so happy to be able to do this outside and in shorts. I have a feeling the treadmill is better on my knees, but I am not checking the clock every 30 seconds to see how much longer I have to go.

I didn't realize this thread was here or I would have joined it earlier! I am starting week 2 today. Did Week 1 last week, four time and felt great. Is anyone else using Robert Ullrey's podcasts? http://www.ullreys.com/robert/Podcasts/index.html
I could NOT do this without my Ipod and these podcasts! It's like doing my exercise videos - I need someone to guide me. I don't look at my watch at all, just my heart rate because I'm interested to see what it does. Today I start week 2! |

welcome palm tree gal! Lots of other people at various stages of the program. Several here use the podcasts which are great for knowing when to walk/run/walk, I didn't get into them. I don't even use my ipod for running, which is bizarre, since i use it every where else. I guess i like to hear my heart thumping through my chest!
great job on your runs mnm and mum! |

Hi everyone, I started the couch to 5 K today! I used to run all the time but I got a divorce and went to nursing school-- yeah I got fat haha!! I had the best time today, I forgot how much fun it is to fun, how it just makes you feel like a billion dollars. Some of my friends are trying to get back in shape after school so we are planning on running a 5 K on May 5 and a half marathon on June 2. I think I have enough time if I work at it! Nice to join you all!!

Sweet&sugarfree, congrats on your great loss! I am also a nurse, now in graduate school which has put a lot of pounds on me. My goal is to look great at graduation (November 2007) and running can only help, right?

Welcome Palmtreegal and sweet&sugarfree! I, too, could not do this without the ullery podcast. I would cheat for sure! I did not weigh myself for the first few weeks of the C25K program as I have heard about weight gain due to muscles, etc. But I have lost a total of 29.2 pounds and gone to a size 12 from 18. I sleep great now, and the days that I do not exercise, I do not sleep as well.
Lovinlee, Curr,MnM, and everyone else, you are doing great!! |

Mum22, wow, you have really lost! I am not doing great on the losing front and I really hope running gets that moving again.
I have been procrastinating all day but I am going for a run in the next half hour! For real! I am making a committment to you guys so I'll be too embarrassed to break it! |

Welcome PalmTreeGal & sweet&sugarefree!
It's a great program!! I use the podcasts and know I would cheat without them. You are right PalmTreeGal, posting in here keeps you honest too ![]() I gave W8D1 a go on Saturday, but at about minute 22 I was busting for the loo and had to stop or would of embarassed myself. Hopefully it won't be raining this evening so I can nail it...although I'm rather hung over so part of me is praying for rain! mum22 that's an amazing loss and change! I'm impressed!!! I had a big whoooosh this weekend. I hope the scale stays down!! currdog, you are nearly at the end! Well done my friend! What do you plan on doing afterwards?

I did go! It was the W2D1 and it was hard but doable. My stomach gave me a hard time after though. No diarrhea or anything, just cramps. I can't figuire out why since I was well hydrated, had eaten plenty of decent food, etc. Oh well. I went and that's what counts. My 7-m-o puppy loved it.

Hi, PalmTreeGal and sweet&sugarfree! Great to have you here, this group really helped keep me going, especially in the early weeks. I used the Ullery podcasts too, tried the first few weeks on my own but since I'm always outside it was difficult to track.
Chris, you're almost done, that's awesome! mum22, great loss! That's about as much as I've lost in 8 months on Atkins, six months with exercise. What can I say, I'm a slow runner and a slow loser. lovinlee, you're getting close to done as well, were you able to finish W8D1? I always run in the mornings, I tried it once after work and I hated hated hated it. canadiandina, I always jog outdoors so don't really know how fast or how far I'm going. I just know that if I push it too hard, I'll be more likely to get frustrated and quit, so I just go with how my body feels. janamonkey, I'll bet when your whippet is old enough to run distance he would love to go roller skating! Faith, MnM, kellysue24, how are y'all doing? I slacked a little bit late last week... overslept Friday so did my 3rd run of the week Saturday, but it was almost noon and nearly 80 by the time we got out the door, I ended up cutting it to 30 minutes instead of 45. 80 in TN isn't the same as 80 in AZ or CA We got out a little earlier to go roller skating Sunday, but again cut it to 30 minutes. Back on track this morning , 45 minutes running MWF and skating Sat, and the Virtual 5K Sunday!

Hi all,
I'm so glad I found this thread! I've been doing 35 minute walks the last two weeks and it was getting kind of boring and I was looking to change it up a bit. I downloaded the C25K program from the coolrunning site last night and did W1D1 this morning. Definitely a better workout! I have never been a runner but the posts on this thread are truly inspiring. I'm starting this at just the right time for me as I have a trip to a nice resort the first weekend in June for my motivation! |

hi everyone! just got back from a little weekend vacation at the (very stormy) coast. I didn't run at all, so back at it tomorrow. Last friday I went to this trail my running friend and I call "the beast" because it is 2 mile loop which is uphill 1.75 miles and steep downhill .25 miles. We finished it + another quarter mile that was flat back to the car in 22 minutes- record time! Let me tell you - I am NOT used to hilly terrain and soft trails, my muscles were KILLING me saturday!

"Fresh meat!" LOL!
Hey, let's post about our canine running buddies! I have 2 who alternate. Sidney: 9-y-o black lab, has calmed down over the years but still loves activity and gets psyched when the running shoes come out. Mostly well-manners on the leash except when he has to stop and check his "pee-mail," or when there's some disgusting garbage on the sidewalk he must eat. Hailey: 7-m-o Manchester Terrier puppy, 20 lbs. She just got spayed yesterday so she won't be running for a week or so. When I start the run intervals she gets so excited, she looks like she's running on air. She isn't very good on a leash but she's small so she doesn't tug me all over like Sid used to. The pace changes are actually good leash training for her to pay attention to me. Doesn't stop suddenly like Sid does but does run way out to the side (scared) when a bigger dog or a truck comes by. The hardest part every time is choosing who to pick! I try to alternate but sometimes there are reasons to take one over another: if it's after dark I take Sid because he's more imposing to bad guys. If they've already had a good walk or hike I take Hailey because I figure Sid's senior joints need a rest (although he'd probably disagree, he's always up for anything!) One of the reasons I always wanted to be a runner was for my dogs. They love it so much and you kill two birds with one stone: get the dog exercised as well as yourself! Seems such a waste to go to the gym and THEN go home to walk the dog.

robirdstx!I'm happy to brag on my running partner! He's a 16 month old 100+ lb White German Shepherd. He's also the main reason I started Couch to 5K, I knew he needed exercise, and while it was easy to make excuses for myself not getting enough, I couldn't do that to him. He's very well-behaved and has never once tried to stop to do any kind of 'business' although I always carry a plastic bag just in case. I started taking him roller skating on the weekends a couple months ago because as slow as I run, it's just a brisk walk for him, and on skates I can get going at a decent clip. |

Shelly, that's so funny that the reason you started running is the same as mine! I'm glad I'm not the only dog nut around. He sounds enormous and probably very energetic at that age. Running makes my Lab poop and even though I always carry a couple bags, on more than one occasion he's pooped 3 or more times and I run out of bags! I'm always embarrassed and worried someone is going to come yell at me. Usually by poop #3 it's just a little squirt, but still.

I soooo wish I could have a puppy, but I live in a unit so no can do
![]() Did W8D1 properly last night...well better than that. When Mr Podcast said '1 minute to go" I really started striding out...and well, it felt so good I kept it up for the 5 minute cool down as well!! 33mins, my longest ever!! Took one of my 'skinny and fit' friends on a run the night before. The poor thing has alot of will power, but after 5 minutes was totally buggered. I feel bad saying it, but geez did it make me feel good!! |

Hi everyone! Curr, congrats to you! Let us know how it feels to graduate!
robirdstx. Alright Lovinlee! Running your cool down and beating the skinny, that's awesome! Congratulations. Itsnot2late: you are awesome about rollerskating. The Tennesee humidity sure takes your breath away, doesn't it? I live in Indiana and it gets plenty humid, but not like there. My canine partner story: I used to take my 100 pound female golden for long walks until she ripped apart her ACL playing on the ice one day (she was 5). This past January, she developed a tumor on her spine and it paralyzed her from the middle of the back down. She was 10 years old and is waiting for us on the rainbow bridge. So, on Sunday, my 5yo dd and I went and adopted a 9 week old black lab/golden mix from the pound. She is beautiful and sweet and full of energy. I look forward to taking her on runs. So, another dog lover here as well. Glad to hear running with your dogs works so well for all of you as well! I finished w5d3 today! Can't believe it! It was a slow down hill steep on the start, and so to avoid the uphill way home, I did the last 10 minutes kind of running in circles. Not ready for uphill yet, but maybe next week Look forward to checking in tomorrow. |
