congrats Jana on your race! I'm looking forward to my first one in like 15 years, just for the experience, not trying to set any records, but just to be around all those runners should be cool.

i completed W7 yesterday. I ran the same loop as I did on W7D2, but i got to the point where i started my cooldown walk on D2 2 minutes faster! it was a darn good run.

tomorrow starts W8, recovering today, besides running, i played 21 (basketball 1:1) with my 15 year old nephew, who has boundless energy, and is also 6'1, so it was quite the workout.

quiet board lately, hope everyone is out there running!

CONGRATS JANAMONKEY! I'm so impressed you went out and did it. Must of been quite daunting with all those people around! What's your next challenge?

Woot Woot currdog! You've nearly finished! Do you think you went further from lengthening your stride, or running faster? I'm thinking I need to do one or the other. I did W6D3 last night and W7D1 this morning (I was naughty on the weekend and ate pizza, so now I need to get rid of those nasty evil extra pounds showing on the scale so I don't have to change my stats). I only went 2.3miles in the 25mins, and apparently I should of covered 2.5 (which I guess is close!)

Congratulations, Jana!!!

Lovinlee - 2.3? I think you did great.

Currdog - I am glad you are doing so well. KUTGW

Kelly - How are you doing?

I took 2 days off between weeks. Normally I just run every other day, but I was pretty sore over the weekend. It probably had something to do with a lot of walking in bad shoes on Saturday. I was really worried about W4D1, but it went just fine.

Hi, everyone! I've been reading but not much time to post... nor do now, but doing it anyways

janamonkey! Great job on your 5K! I hope I do half as well in a few weeks...

Chris, what are you going to do when you finish Couch to 5K? Besides give yourself a huge pat on the back...

MnM, keep it up! I've become much more aware lately of what I'm doing to my feet when I'm not running, I don't want to get sidelined by anything.

lovinlee, you're getting close to done as well 2.3miles in the 25mins isn't bad at all, could you have done that six weeks ago?

Cindy - are you going to start back up again? My biggest fear is that if I have to stop for any reason, I won't be able to get myself going again.

Faith, I hope you will do the Virtual 5K. I'm looking forward to is as kind of a 'practice' run before my real 5K in June.

Daylight savings time kicked my butt. I hit the snooze about eight times yesterday, did not get out and jog. So I did it today, 45 minutes.

thanks kissa

today I am running for 35 minutes, which is a bit over three miles for my pace. It's not raining, so that's a plus.

Who is doing the virtual 5k here? I am, and I was wondering does it matter if our 3.11 miles are flat? Hills + me = sore behind! I need to work on that.

haven't run since sunday. i rolled my ankle playing basketball, and thought nothing of it at the time, but its been nagging me ever since. feeling 80% today, hope to get back to w8 tomorrow or saturday. frustrating, usually i'd be happy to have excuses, now it just pisses me off.

glad to see everyone else hitting their milestones.

I know exactly what you mean currdog. It's Friday here. I had Wednesday off work and was sent home yesterday at lunch (and will do so again today) because I have a cold (funny but my work mates don't want to share it!). I feel sooo bad cause I haven't run since Tuesday morning....bloody strange feeling that! My good mates think I'm a freak! They've started calling me 'mel-ting' - my name is Melissa, and they think I'm disappearing.

Lovinlee - There are so many people sick here. The weather has really been up and down though. I hope you feel better soon!

I did W4D3 last night and it went just fine. I stretched the last 5 minutes to 7 just because. I am moving on to W5 tomorrow.

janamonkey, you're doing so well! I'm going to do the virtual 5K, but not nearly as fast as you. Having a dog as a running partner is great, gives me someone to talk to, and he's always happy to go at whatever pace I set.

Chris, glad your ankle's OK and you're able to get back on track! 97?! It's 47 here now

Keep it up, MnM - you're almost halfway there I don't know where you are, but the weather here changes a lot faster than I'm used to from living in CA all my life.

Melissa, nobody gets sent home for a cold around here, we just listen to people snuffle and hack all day and hope it doesn't spread. I've been lucky not to catch anything, my nose runs enough already when I'm jogging. Hope you're feeling better...

Jogged 45 minutes yesterday, it was colder than I expected, should not have worn shorts... I'm proud of myself for sticking with 3 days/week last week, even though I was off a day (combination of daylight savings time and snooze alarm). Going skating today and back to jogging MWF tomorrow.

Thanks Shelly and MnM

Slowly getting there. Went for my first run since last Tuesday this morning. Was meant to be W7D2 - but half way through I was so stuffed, my nose was running, I was coughing like nothing else, so I did a few little walks.

Fingers crossed I nail it next time!

Go get em guys!

Good evening guys! Sorry to go MIA last week. The kids were out for Spring Break so my schedule stayed pretty full. Hopefully now that school is back in session I can get back to updating more regularly.

There are only 5 days left until the 10K and I am getting very anxious. Got to do W8D2 last Wednesday then didn't get to do anything more until Sunday and with only a week till the Big Day I decided to change up my routine a bit. So instead of going on to W8D3, DD and I just did a continuous jog/walk/jog for 4.25 miles, just to pace ourselves to see how we would do. And in my opinion it isn't coming easily enough for being this close to my first 10K! My leg was hurting within the first mile and I've been so sore!

Trying not to sweat it too much though. If I end up walking most of it that doesn't matter to me. Just the act of getting there and completing it will be a major accomplishment for me!

I just got thru walking 40 minutes on the TM this evening. I want to keep my endurance up throughout the week. I don't dare go another 4 days with no activity like I did last week! but on a good note, my soreness has eased up a great deal, thank goodness!

It looks like everyone is doing very well! Keep up the great work guys! I will try checking in tomorrow after my next jog. I'm not planning on doing the regular routine tho, for this week just the alternating walk/jog. Next week I will be back with the program and picking up where I left off.

I have started and restarted this program so many times. i am determined to stick with it this time around though. A few questions:

1) on a treadmill, what speed are you going?
2) do you raise the speed when it is time to jog?
3) do you jog or run?
4) do you know how many calories you burn?

Please help!

I alternate outdoors jogging with the treadmill...when on the TM my "brisk pace" is set at 2.9 then I will increase to anywhere from 3.5 to 3.7 mph depending on how my legs are holding up. And I adjust the grade anywhere from 3.0 to 4.5. At the pace I'm doing I am just reaching right around 2 miles. It seems to take longer on the TM to get there than when I am outside tho.

I burn between 250-275 calories that is with a straight 28 minute jog + 5 minute warm up and cool-down.

When out on the tracks with DD13 (we have been doing this together) I have broken out into a full run a time or two but only as a fun challenge "race" because DD is so much quicker than I, but I never can go at it for long!

Good luck to you on getting back with the program. One foot in front of the other... We are all right behind you!

welcome, you can do it!
1) walk 3.5, run 5.5
2) see 1
3) i call it running, but at 5.5 its jogging
4) don't track calories burned, don't track calories consumed.

W8D2 complete! great run today. got a little cramp/gas bubble in my shoulder at about 15 minutes, but was able to work that out. Other than that it was smooth sailing. Definitely in that good zone. i even 'kicked' for the last 3 minutes since i was chock full of energy. Need to get on google earth to map it up, probably still less than 3, but I'm getting there.

keep on it everyone!

Hello everyone. I have been on vacation since my last post. My ds and I had made a pledge to each other that we would not use the computer while on vacation. So, I could not check in. I am still on week five, but I was able to do my program on vacation. Other than my ipod case breaking and my ipod falling on the beach and then get hit by a wave, all went well. My husband saved it with a hairdryer. I need to do some laundry before I go back and read all of the posts I missed. I will check in again later.

W1D1 done. I'm not sure if I am doing this right though. I am doing it on my treadmill and I put my speed at 3.1 -- I did not increase the speed at the jogging intervals. Is that okay? Should I increase it?

Dina -- I think it's whatever you feel most comfortable with. Remember that just starting out you may be going a much slower pace until you rebuild your endurance. I remember my first couple of weeks not going much faster than a 3.1 or 3.2!

I think a couple of folks on here started out walking and jogging at about the same pace.

Hello everyone!
I'm still here, out running. This last weekend I accidentaly ate something with eggs in it and was all weekend. No running. Just laying around cursing the resteraunt I ate at.

My running buddy and I ran 3.25 miles on Monday and I am going to do about the same today. I was thinking of trying to build up to four in the next few weeks- do you think that's too much? I am feeling good at 3-3.25, able to keep a conversation the whole way and don't feel like I'm going to die afterwards, no soreness... ?

I love this thread.

I will be back one day but not before I take my trip to Australia next month. I once lived in Singapore, where we are stopping for a few days, and I know I can barely walk in that climate, let alone run!

You are all amazi
