Has anyone found any info on the podcast? I found 1 site that you can download, but wasn't sure if that was what people were talking about.

Thanks!

Good job TyMom and lbeck....the more u run, the easier it gets.

GA, just wear your brace if necessary and take it SLOW. This is to everyone attempting to run for the first time, take it slow. What's the point in running fast, catch a side stich and then having to stop? The whole point of jogging and then walking and then jogging is to build endurance and stamina. No one expects u to run a marathon on Saturday. This is your time to perfect your FORM, get your heart and lung conditioned...and to experience endorphins or that runner's high!

Even I have to slow myself down sometimes because now I want the DISTANCE to matter. Doing C25K, the TIME mattered more. But now that I'm contemplating running a race, I need distance to be a factor. So understand this ladies....if you truly want to be a runner, it will come in phases. I didn't expect to start running 26 miles on Day 1. Day 300 either. This is a sport of endurance and more so of the mind. You compete with yourself only.

Hope this helps.

Hi Runners!

I was going to say good morning then realized that it's after noon here! I'm not sure where my morning went but have been pretty busy so far.

I slept in this morning because we go to the gym tonight. I will be up with my Wk 8, D3 run tomorrow. I am excited about nearly completing the C25K training and can't wait to see how you guys do!

Please forgive me for not remember names yet! I struggle in that dept!

Suga -- Your results have been amazing! Imagine how much stronger your is now too! Great advice re: knees/running/injuries too! ITA agree about times mattering during C25K and distance later. Right now, I want to be able to run for xMinutes. Once I finish this program, I will focus on time perhaps one more week then try to focus on how far I can go in xMinutes. (I love have little goals!)

Laura -- Congrats on completing another run!!! My calf/shin/ankle muscles get sore at times too. Wrapping your knee is a good idea! I think it's best to go slow at first too. I am still going slower and will work on speed later. The important thing IMHO is that we are challenging our hearts, but at a healthy level.

Tymom -- Yay! Congrats on your 1st day!!! That podcast does make it nice! The last two weeks, 8 & 9, are all longer runs so have found that I like watching the times myself so I can listen to my own music.

Shelby -- You will make it up tomorrow and will probably have more stamina after the extra rest!

GApeach -- Glad you have been to a doc already! I can't keep the incline high on the TM either! My left knee will ache if I do that. I keep it around 1% or maybe 2%. My TM does not show % of incline so am guessing. I also have to make sure I vary my cardio and don't sit still too long. A long car trip causes me probs and am not sure why. Otherwise, I have not had any issues with my knee and nothing at all since starting the C25K. I can't do lunges because I'm not flexible enough or think that's why. I never can get the back leg to go down far enough. I try to avoid them, don't like them etc! I hope you can do the program w/o your knee flaring.

CallieCat -- I sent you a PM re: the podcast. If I sent you one yesterday I apologize! I tried to send on to anyone that posted interest. The podcast I mentioned is on Robert Ullrey's/Ullery's site. It really has helped me get this far.

I need to get back to work! Have a wonderful day everyone!

Good morning! I did W1D3 last night and it felt GOOD! So far my knees haven't bothered me. I'm really hoping that doing this program will strengthen my leg muscles so that my knees can handle the running. I take a day off in between so that they have some time to rest.

I'm going to start W2 on Sunday.

Calliecat... I am in the same boat in the knee department... a couple bad twists in 2 years. Are you wearing a brace... if so what kind?

(ps kind of the same subject...My little sister is having her knee replaced next week.... she is thin and very active but it has bothered her forever.)

Tymom, I do wear a brace on both knees - the ace bandages for the knees. It really seems to give support on the sides of my knees. I was diagnosed with arthritis in my knees when I was a teenager. However, I'm now not so sure that that is what it was. I had all the symptoms of runners knee then, but no swelling or heat (that is usually associated with arthritis). Of course, I had never heard of runners knee until a couple weeks ago! So I'm just taking it slow and doing the program exactly as it is written. And I'm trying to do more research on arthritis.

Hope your sister's surgery goes well.

Happy TGIF Everyone!

I finished week 8 this morning, again with my own music mix instead of the podcast. I have one more week left. It will feel odd w/o a program to follow but I do plan to continue w/3 runs / week. I will probably alternate steady state runs with intervals but am not sure yet.

Tymom -- Congrats on another session!!! I could not imagine running 20 min w/o stopping either. You WILL with this program and you will be telling others how you started and how you can now run 20+ minutes! I hope your sister's surgery is a success. Recovery is a long process but makes a huge difference. My SIL had it done early last year.

Lynne -- Congrats to you too! I have read that stronger legs will help support the knees. I have friend whose DH plays raquetball and does exercises to strengthen a particular muscle to support his knee. I need to find out more info on that.

I need to get back to work. Just had lunch! Have a great day/weekend!

Hey ladies.

I have been looking to start the couch to 5K program for a while now. IT is hard because I would have to do it outside and I have a 3yr. old, and my stroller has been stolen out of my garage. Hubby has started a new job and isnt home on a regular basis to watch her so I can run. I am going to look at a treadmill tomorrow that this lady is selling in the paper. Hopefully it will be a good one, and I can start soon. I really want to.
I actually want to run in Race for a cure; a 5K for breast cancer here in Houston this time next year. I told my Hubby that and he gave me the "Yeah right Look" SO if not for anything else I want to prove him wrong.... how is that for motivation.

ANyway I go to look at the treadmill tomorrow... hopefully I will be joining you ladies on MOnday.

Darlene........WTG!!! It feels good, huh?

Gavinsmom..........forget your husband's doubting eyes. You do this for YOU and if you have to run in place or around the house........do IT!!

I got my 2.25 miles in today........so I don't think I'm running tomorrow. 3 days in a row is plenty!!!

I can't wait to do it again tommorrow!

i figured out how to get the podcast in case someone still needed to know. I used my i-tunes to get to the store and clicked on 'podcasts' then under catergories on the left side I clicked 'health' then I clicked on 'podcasts for running' and there it is! found it by mistake just now.

Hello everyone,
I started the Couch to 5K program on Tuesday and absolutely love it. I've always wanted to run/jog but never knew how I could train my body to get to that point. This program appears to be the answer and based upon everyone's success...it can happen.

Suga..your transformation and words are very encouraging.

Hi all! Just finished w1d3, this time at the gym on the treadmill. Can't wait until I can take a nice longish run along the bike path with the dogs... I am always so jealous of people who can do that and don't even look like they are breathing hard!

Anyway, it went well and I did some weights afterward. I think I will do week one again just to make sure I can progress... i do not want to overdo it , get sick of it, and fail. anyone else try 'stretching" it out?

Have a nice Sunday all!

Hello everyone! I'm starting W1D1 in the morning, so wanted to pop in and say hello! I'm also doing BFL, so I'm making the C25K program work on my cardio days so everything should go nicely.

I'm a type A kind of person, so it's funny to see me with my lists of exercise, lists of food, lists of food times, etc. lol My fridge is covered! ha

Tymom, I did W2D1 yesterday and didn't quite make it thru, so I'm probably going to do week 2 twice. I realize now that when I walked for exercise before that I wasn't really working very hard.

I think that everyone just has to follow the program at their own pace and if that means doing some weeks 2 (or even 3 times), but not quitting the program, then that's great. I am determined not to fail, too!

got the Podcast and I'm loving this!
I love the program already (yes, after 1 time lol)
I used to be in cross country in high school (weighing about 80 lb, less than I do now) and it's almost like my body remembers it lol, bc it kept trying to go ahead and I had to keep reining myself in and saying no.

Wow, it's good to see such enthusiasm for running! C25K will get you motivated and moving.

Callie is right. If you have to repeat a week, do so. It's best to run right then to run with bad form which will ultimately lead to injury and/or burnout. That's why I made sure I took the rest day and had good music or tv to keep me moving.

Don't forget.............running slow for a long period of time is BETTER THAN running really fast for a short time. The goal for C25K is to get your body conditioned for the real fun............RUNNING.

Good job everyone!

I didn't run today because I spent yesterday.........6 hours.........helping my bf move and that was plenty of lifting, walking and work---so that counted as EXERCISE!!! LOL. But I'm feeling a good run in my bones for tomorrow!

Hi Everyone!

Wow! This thread is growing! I am rushed so don't have time for personals today! I just want to say that you are all doing great! I want to stick around to see how you all are doing!

Today is W9, D1 for me. (5 min walk/30 min run/5 min walk) I did my own iPod mix again because I just enjoy listening to my own music more. I worked all weekend and was on my feet a lot of that time so just took my time. I only made it 2.25 mi in 30 min so am not up to 5k yet but will keep working on it. As tired as I felt, just making the 30 min felt good!

Suga -- Thanks! It does feel good! I think you did right by resting today after all the work you did helping with the move!

Here's to another great week everyone!

Hi!!!!!!! Just finished w2d1 and WOW. This is so exhilarating... feels awesome. I slowed my pace down a little, more of a slowish jog, and that helped me make it thru. I think that is what you keep saying, right Suga?

That's what I did- a slow jog... I really felt like I could have gone harder but I was NOT hurting myself the first day, so just did a slow comfy jog for thr jog times and it went great! And I love that it's only 20 mins bc it doesn't seem like it goes forever!

Exactly!!!! If you have to slow down to make it to the end....that's the ticket! Why race and fall short?

Good job lady!!!!
