I do have a question. I am starting this on a treadmill, so I set the incline to 1.5%. Should it be lower/higher? I know there is wind resistance, etc. outdoors. I will be running outside at some point, but not until the ice and snow are completely gone.

Sarah, I don't think that would be stupid at all, I think that would be a great alternative. Good for you for finding a way around obstacles, I've gone in the cold as low as 11 degrees but I would not be able to do it without the right clothes.

Faith, I'm sorry you're down but I'm proud of you for keeping up with the program in spite of all that.

Welcome, MnM! It's so cool to see people starting out, you inspire me just as much as those who have been running for years, because I remember how hard it was to just get going.

Great, janamonkey! I think we're going about the same speed, in fact you might be a little faster than me. I've tried to map it but my neighborhood is too new, not all the streets I jog on are on there so I have to kind of eyeball the terrain.

lovinlee, I'm glad you found a way around the weather too. There will always be a reason not to go, sometimes you just have to go anyways. I'll bet your neighbors were more impressed with your determination than anything.

What a wonderful busy board. MnM

You are all great going ahead despite the weather. I do think sometimes you are allowed to drop a day behind...it is your choice and not a 'bad' thing. As long as you climb back on board.

Loveinlee, great idea running in the garage!

Tomorrow is my running lesson!!!

Good morning everyone !

I too have a hard time running in nasty weather- also I don't have very good gear for it either. Luckily I was only iced out of one run so far. I tried to run in 20 degree weather but my calves said NO WAY. When its been raining I just think about the wonderfully hot shower I will get in when I am done.

Today I'm running after work with a friend. She's a day behind me, so I will run week5 day3 again. I looked, its basically the same as week6 day2 which I was going to do today. There's this golf course that has a running/walking trail that is exactly 2 miles around, so we'll go there and run by distance instead of time. So, I guess I really will see if I'm running 10 mintues miles

My incline is set at 0. Like MuM22 I'm just trying to make it through to the end.

0 is fine! Remember, start slow and go slower. You will get there...safely.

You will know when you want to increase the incline. Those of you running outside of course don't have that option!!!!

Hi all!!! It has been almost two weeks since I have posted. I have missed keeping up with all of you. I went back and read through the last two pages and it looks like we have some newbies You will really love the program!

I look forward to it!

I thought I would die when I did the 25 minutes in week 6 - but it was so awesome to know that I actually did it

I finished W7D1 today and did another 25 minutes. I increased my speed to get more out of the workout! I still can't believe I AM RUNNING!

FaithM - Hang in there honey! I am proud of you for keeping up with your program

MnM - I always run on the treadmill. I started out on a low incline. We too have lots of snow and ice so the tm works much better for me.

Kissa - how is your "retraining" going with your walking? and tomorrow is your running lesson - I bet you are soooo excited!

Itnot2l8 - YEA!!! Week 9 of OHR

Welcome again to all of you!!!! HAve fun!

Morning!

25 minutes just sounds sooo beyond me! I can't wait to give it a try....You guys make me believe that I can do this!

It's funny hearing about the snow, when it's summer here!

It's Valentines Day today....and the boyfriend and I broke up last night. Great timing! Anyway, I got up and shook myself of this morning and did W2D3. Crying and running at the same time is kinda difficult. But I'm so proud of me - and I really needed to channel the anger and frustration somewhere!

I'm going to do another day of W2 and then try out W3 on the weekend.

lovinlee- I'm so sorry about your breakup that's the worst!

Super hectic past couple of days with business travel, but certainly no excuse for me completing W4D1. I did it on the treadmill here at the hotel. i had the inline at 0.5%. i figure i would burn an extra 10 calories so i could eat some jello usually i run outside as it usually 60+ in AZ. i might go inside come july when its 120!

good job all on running and lovinlee sorry to hear about your breakup, but glad to hear you stuck with the running and didn't fall off the exercise wagon!

Lovinlee, you are impressive! Sorry about you and your boyfriend. I am hoping the gym is open today. Everything was closed yesterday due to snow and wind, even the banks. We had a 4 foot drift outside my front door this morning. I did take my dd for a sled ride last night. Beautiful and a work out, even though I couldn't run in the snow up past my knees..........

4 foot drifts, gosh not something I am ever likely to see in London!

Lovinlee I am so sorry about your split. He'll be sorry, when you are running your marathons and winning medals.

Well I had my running lesson this afternoon in brilliant sunshine! What an enlightening experience. I think I struck gold with the woman who was training me. She made it all sound so simple and had me moving almost like a athlete by the end of my hour.

I have been making so many mistakes but the biggest one was leaning forward and constricting my lungs. What a difference when I was breathing freely. So many other pointers, admittedly a lot to do with the special shoes I wear, MBTs.

I won't bore you here, but it was a wonderful investment. Can't recommend it too highly. All discomfort gone from my knees.

So tomorrow I will be back to C25K. I will have a good look at the Cool Running site in a minute and decide where to begin. It felt so good today that I don't think I will need to go back to the beginning.

I am so excited.

Hey guys...everyone is doing so great!!!

I did go to the gym across the street and got my W1, D2 in...I had to do it in front of teenagers playing basketball...that was embarrasing! And dangerous! There were basketballs flying by my head constantly!!!

Hey guys...I just wanted to take a second to further write about my experience yesterday with W1, D2.

I made it through the run segments...all but 1. I get REALLY winded though and I can feel a lot of pressure on my knees, shins and feet. I don't want to be a wuss, but I don't want to injure myself either. I am still pretty big...I am over 35 BMI...I've got to lose 6 lbs before I am under 35. And still...that is pretty big.

I want to do this...but I just don't want to get hurt...She I try "speed walking" instead of actual running/jogging? Or should I give it up...wait until I've lost a little more...and then get started.

I love the IDEA of couch to 5k because it is a goal...and the podcasts are great! I like formulas and routines.

Any advice is appreciated.

Doublepoint: Hi! Hey if you are winded, that means you are going too FAST!!! This is not a race. You should run slowly at a pace that enables you to talk or sing.

Also, you might consider your shoes. The right shoes can make a ton of difference. Go to a specialty running store and get professionally fitted, they will watch your gait and recommend the best shoes for you. Made a huge difference for me when I first started c25k in October.

Also, check out the cool running boards (google cool running) for terrific support and advice! Lots of newbies over there, and inspriational too!

Best of luck to you (and everyone else!!)

HI everyone

Today I ran w6d3 in the wind and rain. I went so slow- 2 miles in 25 minutes- I was supposed to do 2.25 but it was so horrible outside I just went slow and steady. I suppose 12.5 minutes miles arn't that terrible and I finished... Hey, I actaully went outside so that's fantastic in itself!

I just realized that next week (7) is all 25 minute runs. I cant believe I'm so close to the end !!!

wow janamonkey! that's just beyond my imagination! you go girl!! Love the new picture - is that a staffy?

doublepointgirl - I'm impressed! Especially in front of teenagers, that would of made me sooo nervous. I bet you were impressed with yourself too! agree on the comment about good shoes. would knee braces or even some tape strapping help with the knees? Don't give up! even if you just stick to doing half the jogs, it's better than quitting!!

thanks to everyone for the nice words about my break up too. he'll miss out on the new toned me

I did W2D4 today (I give myself an extra day....) and will do W3D1 over the weekend. It's strange, but I actually can't wait!!

Great job Janamonkey I can't imagine what a great feeling it must be.

I did W2D1 yesterday outside as the gym was completely packed due to tremendous amount of snow we got. DoublepointsGirl, I feel your pain about the running in front of others. I had to go by a group of high school students at least 3 times on my run yesterday. I am not a graceful runner. But at least I was out there.

great job all on completing their segments!

doublepoint, i think if it hurts, then you need to stop doing it. the advice to slow down and get a REAL pair of running shoes is as good advice as I can offer.

jana, outstanding job braving the elements to get your run in, thats dedication. 2 more weeks and you're a 5k'er!

MnM, i know what you mean about resisting the urge to run more. The program is there to make sure you don't over do it, and get injured! You'll be challenged soon enough.

mum22, don't sweat it when others are watching you. I think most people think "at least she's doing something about it" rather than "what a lardo" I get nothing but encouragement when others see me out running.

Shelly, you're an inspiration, keep up with that OHR, i'll start asking you questions on that one in 4 weeks!

lovinlee, good job on W2, nothing wrong with an extra day. its just a guideline, and as long as you're moving forward, you're making progress.

I got my W4D2 run on a treadmill today. I forgot to double knot my shoes, and my lace came undone right after the 1st 5 minute run, but other than that it was pretty smooth sailing. I'll get D3 in on tomorrow or Saturday.

keep up the good work!
