Hey All! I loved being out with DH yesterday evening biking while he jogged. Was the first time we ever did that and it was fun, fun! But forget anything I said before about flat terrain and only slight grades around here!
I had totally forgotten about the times I rode my bike before just how steep some of these roads are. I had to walk my bike some of the way as it was so much work to keep those pedals turning! Just two completely different workouts there but still, I guess when I am running I'm working my legs much more than I realize.Shelly -- What Jokath asked, I'm wondering too! Also, do you have any issues with slipping/sliding on all that ice? ![]() |

Morning All!!
FaithM - the podcast definately helped. did W1D1 on Saturday. Geez, never realised 60 seconds could take so long, and 90 seconds could be so short. But I managed to get through it all The music was crap, but I don't think I would of gotten through it without cheating if I had of done it on my own.My MP3 busted, so I had to take it back. Don't have a computer at home, so have to redownload today and run tonight (Monday here). My legs were sooo tired yesterday, but Australian Biggest Loser started again last night, so that's motivation to get back out today! I'm so impressed with you guys that have gotten so far through the routine! can't wait till I'm on your level!!

msgirl, done with the dread Week 5! Welcome, janamonkey! Week five's bark is worse than its bite, and you'll feel so great when you get to the end of that 20 minutes! lovinlee, great start! The music, well, it won't exactly grow on you but you'll get used to it. Faith, I know what you mean about the hills. I took the dog roller skating in the park yesterday and I swear all those paths looked perfectly level, until I was rolling up or down them. Skating (or biking) up even the slightest incline is work! Hi, tymom! Can't believe I've only got two more weeks of OHR, and you'll be done shortly after that! mslaster, you're doing great, keep it up... going fast isn't as important as just going. jokath, I'm really not that dedicated, it's just that the only way I can keep going is not to allow myself any excuse, else I'll start allowing myself every excuse. So as long as my legs will carry me, I've got to just do it. Cindy, I hope you can start jogging again soon. Have you decided whether to start at the beginning, or pick up in the middle and see how it feels? What I wear when it's that cold (10-20 degrees): Long underwear, long sleeve running shirt, running pants, windproof jacket and pants, down vest, knit gloves, hat, and scarf. Avoid cotton, it's miserable when cold & wet. By the end I've unzipped the vest and jacket and taken off the gloves. In 20-30 is the same but without the long underwear and scarf, above 30 no vest or gloves. At 40 I lose the hat, wind pants and jacket, and at 50 I'm in tshirt and shorts. It wasn't icy that morning, the snow was fresh and powdery and there wasn't a lot of it, and we were going pretty slow. And when I was shopping for shoes in late October, I knew I might hit a little snow eventually so I got shoes with tread that reminds me of snow tires (Saucony Grid)Tomorrow is Week8 Day1 (30 minutes), forecast for 7 a.m. is 16, 6 with wind chill ![]()

Good afternoon! W5D1 is done! Wasn't as bad as I had anticipated but still a challenge for me to keep a steady pace and to push myself without pushing too hard. I'll be continuing with week 5. Come Friday I will make that 20 minutes, even if the snails move faster than I!

I ran W4D2 yesterday during halftime (we have dvr so I just paused it- I love Prince!) and it went really well. Its amazing how three minutes seemed like forever a few weeks ago and now it is not so bad.

Lovinlee -- I was told by the veterans on here when I first started just how quickly the weeks would fly by...and they were right! I can't believe I'm already starting on week 5!

W3D1 is complete. 1st 3 minute run wasn't too bad, the 2nd one seemed to last for an eternity. Worked up a really good sweat, much more than in week 1 or 2, which is motivating.
keep up the good work everyone. |

btw, I don't usually do anything extra on my in between days but I have a couple of times. Like, Sunday I went out bikeriding with DH while he did his jog. I try to abide by those rest days tho that they say is so important for muscle repair. I don't think the ab roller is going to do any harm though! Chris -- I can certainly attest to how those 3 minutes feel. One would think once you've gotten through that it would be a piece of cake afterwards, but that's not necessarily so! Oops, did I say cake? ![]() Last edited by FaithM. : 02-06-2007 at 05:45 AM. |

Hello everyone. I started W1D1 today after seeing all of the good things you all had to say about this program. I got the podcast as well. Man, that was harder than I thought it would be!!! The pod cast saved me. I would have cheated without it. I can walk for 2-3 hours with no problem but I really want to start running. I really want to do a sprint triatholon in the summer. I have a long way to go but really am excited about this program.

I don't do anything yet on my off days. Everyone warns me about going too hard too fast that you end up hurting yourself. I do want to start doing some anerobic exercises but haven't put together a plan for that yet.

I do run consecutive days sometimes, but usually I do stretching or yoga on my off days. I was having back pain and the yoga really really helps.

thanks guys. i might leave it for a bit, unless i'm feeling really guilty. i've got this yogalaties video at home (a mix of yoga and pilates), maybe i'll do a section of that. i want my tummy flat!
completed w1d3 today, and i'm still yelling at the podcast man to hurry up and let me walk...thinking maybe i should do another day of week one....then try week 2 on the weekend when i have a bit more time and aren't hurrying home to get to work? my inspiration today was when a woman, who must of been about 70, jogged past me whilst i was on the walking section! mum22 - i'm with you on the podcast making it so you can't cheat! |

Oh boy you are all doing so well!
I am soooo jealous, I should be finished C25K and onto one hour runner by now if I hadn't gone to a trainer who said 'Stop'. Hoping to get a lesson from her this week now that I have rested my ancient joints...but she hasn't answered my calls! Does she think I am past it? KUTGW all. |

OHR W8D2 done, it was a toasty 28 degrees
Added 4 minutes for total 40. Seven more jogging days and I'm done, after that what will I do? Find another training program or just keep jogging 45x3 and skating a couple times a week.lovinlee, I hope I can jog when I'm 70! My mom is one of my inspirations, she doesn't jog but she goes to the gym 4 or 5 days a week, and she's on the far side of 65. Welcome, mumm22!! What's a sprint triathlon? Sounds intense. Faith, I'll be thinking about you Friday. I know you can do it! Cindy, too bad you can't reach that trainer, is there another one you can work with if she's not available? Janamonkey, you're coming up on week 5 too, Chris, I believe that's true, if you try to do too much too soon you'll either burn out or get hurt. I'd thought about joining the gym and doing some upper body weights on the off days, but I started skating instead just because it's fun ![]() You're all doing great, keep going! Jenny, jokath, tymom, msgirl, mslaster, hope everything is going well for you too ![]() |

Hey there everybody! Just a quick check in for me today, I am absolutely pooped! W5D2 was challenging for me. Two 8 minute runs, I was feeling fine as long as I was on a downhill slope but those other times I seriously felt as though I was barely moving!
Now that it's over and I'm cooled down my brain's telling me, "there now that wasn't so bad was it?" ![]() Mum! Shelly -- Thanks in advance for keeping me in mind come Friday. While you're at it you can keep me in your too! ![]() Cindy -- 3.25 lbs. on the scale! WoW! ![]() Jokath -- We understand! Keep trekking, you're doing great!Hello to everyone else...hope you're all having a good day! Last edited by FaithM. : 02-07-2007 at 11:58 AM. |

Thank you, it is good to be here. Today is supposed to be my day "in-between" but I took my kids sledding today. Oh my!!! Talk about a work out. Up and down those hills, pulling the kids. If they could come out with something similar to that........ All while it was 5 degrees. I had to burn something.....

sprint triathalon looks pretty cool, but I'm a rock in the water. with running or biking you can go really slow, but in the water once i stop i start drowning. i'll stick to dry land for awhile.
w3d2 complete. good job all on completing their respective runs! |

Do any of you have shin splints? I can do the first week and then I'm done because of my shins. It's a Catch 22: I know my shins wouldn't hurt if I were lighter, however, to get lighter I need to jog.
I run on a treadmill at 4.2-4.5 mph for anywhere between 2-4 min per interval and then have to walk for 10 min straight because my darn shins hurt. I can get another 2-4 min jog in before the 30 min is up but it's so frustrating! Any suggestions???
