jokath, repeating a week is never a bad idea, any time you don't feel ready to go on to the next level.

tymom, I'm a fast walker and a slow jogger, I wouldn't be surprised if I actually jog slower than I walk

Faith, I'm here to tell you it can be done! I never thought I'd get this far, now I'm sure I'll finish. You can do it too!

msgirl, done with week 4 already! I think the moment I was the most proud of myself was when I finished Week 5. It is getting harder to fit the longer runs in, I may have to do the last couple Day 3s on the weekend.

OHR Week 7 starts tomorrow, forecast for 7 a.m. is sunny and 17 degrees, 9 with wind chill. Brrrrrrrrrr

Good afternoon Fellow Joggers!

DD and I just made it thru W4D1! I won't complain this time, LOL, but I will say I'm proud of myself...and her too! We both felt like we were dyin' with that first 3 minute set and were wondering how we would accomplish 5 but we did it...twice! It was a challenge but I think more of a mind thing. I had to get that mental block and try thinking of something other than running. Like, how to think of something other than jogging while you are jogging, LOL!

Msgirl -- Congrats on graduating Week 4! Good luck with working around company this week. I'm sure that will be a challenge in itself!

Shelly -- I believe I may be a slower jogger than walker as well. Definitely more of a slog! For some reason I don't feel like I'm going the same speed outdoors than what I do on the treadmill.

Jokath -- I agree with the others. And don't feel guilty if you end up repeating a week. My session today really brought me back down to reality and I may even have to repeat this week.

Hello also to Tymom, Cindy, Relentless, Marvin, Jenny, Mslaster! Everyone keep up the awesome work, you are all doing great!

Ok, decided to repeat W1 and I'm glad I did, I think I'm where I should have been last week. I jogged outside instead of on the treadmill and didnt have near as much trouble. I think its easier to breath outside because of the way my posture is on the treadmill. I can stand straighter and keep my head back, breathing easier. Now if it just wasnt to dang cold here it would be great.

Congratulations Faith and mslaster your both doing so well, cant wait until I'm where you are.

Faith & mslaster, that's what music is for! Sometimes it's the only thing that drowns out the voice in my head that's saying "what are you thinking? this isn't fun!"

jokath, I'm glad it went better for you. How cold are mornings where you are? I also think that being on a treadmill might tend to put extra pressure on to keep the speed up, when I'm jogging outside I can pay more attention to how I feel and less to how fast I'm going.

I was over on the cool running newbies message board, and noticed a lot of advice for beginners was along the lines of "start slow, then slow down."

This morning was a lot warmer, skated 1.6 miles with the pup. Tomorrow morning is supposed to be cold again, 16F, for OHR W7D2 (34 minutes).

just found this thread. I started the c25k program last week. Yesterday I completed W2D2. I'm so pumped, i actually look forward to getting to my next workout! I'm sure i'll eat those words next week when i have to bump it up to 3minutes, but i'm looking forward to that challenge.

keep up the good work everyone.

Chris.

Well done all of you. Shelly is right, just follow her and you won't go far wrong.

I think that you may be right about the stance on the treadmill. I am sure that it didn't help my problem.

I am hoping that I will have my running lesson next week when I am back in London. Then I will be back with you all. Have to decide whether to start at the beginning again or at week 3 or 4....

Chris

I'm pretty new here also, as well as new to running but I am really enjoying it. I can see how Betty became addicted to this.

ItsNot2L8 it's getting down to 20*-28* most morning, a couple weeks ago we were getting down into the teens. I really cant wait for spring. Think I will go over to cool running and read up on the newbies message board.

Aw, thanks, Cindy! You know the way you've kept up the elliptical and step classes and such, you shouldn't have lost too much ground with this time off.

Um, yeah. 11 degrees. Plus a little wind chill. Did the full 34 minutes, I'd thought I might go a little longer but was too $^#& cold.

Welcome, Chris! It's a great program and a great group we've got here. You'll be surprised at how fast it goes.

jokath, I miss those days of jogging in balmy 20 degree weather At least it hasn't been raining (or snowing) when it's this cold, but that looks to change tomorrow.

thanks all for the welcomes.

completed my W2D3 this morning. On the last 2 1:30 intervals, i stretched my runs out to 2:00 and 2:15. I've got 2 days off until next week and wanted to see how bad the 3:00 interals will be next week. I actually felt great during those runs.

I figure i'll use the timed runs rather than the distance, since i run outside. I don't have any weather issues at home in AZ or on biz travel in CA!

keep up the good work everyone.

Good morning everyone! And Chris! It looks like you've gotten off to a wonderful start!

I completed W4D2 yesterday. I would have posted then but our monitor went out on us the other night so I had to go pull down an older one to use until we can get a new one. Anyway, yesterday while out I had thoughts of maybe repeating this week because I feel like 5 minutes is really pushing it for me and the fact of having to work up to 8 min. and then 20 min. by the end of W5 has me going I'm still going to take it one step at a time tho 'cause ya never know...I have surprised myself thus far already so anything at all is possible!

To each of you who are out there jogging in temps in the 20's and teens...HOW do you do it?! LOL! It was mid 40's here yesterday and the cold wind was making my throat hurt and my nose run (I think it was going faster than I was! ).

Jokath -- I prefer doing my jog outdoors as well. When I'm on the treadmill it feels like I have less control (I guess we do actually) and I'm always feeling like I'm going either too fast or too slow.

Shelly -- You're right, a little music would make my routine a whole lot easier! I really should get out and look for something I can take along with me to listen to.

Chris -- When I was in W2 I jogged the 3 min. stretch (by mistake) and surprised myself when it wasn't actually all that bad. Strangely though, this week going 3 minutes has been challenging me. Crazy, huh? Could be because those muscles are fully awake now and I'm feeling them
more.

Cindy -- I too hope you're able to get back next week. IMO, I'd think with that little hiatus it might be better to start off at the beginning, or maybe the 2nd week at least. Then again, you know your body best and what it is up to doing. Listen to me, a beginner advising a seasoned jogger, LOL!

Mslaster -- You are doing so well! I think it's great that you're being patient with yourself and going at your own pace.

...Continue keeping up the good work everyone and just remember, whether repeating or moving on to a new week, we are still progressing!

You know FaithM, I think you are probably right. There is no competition here, I love that, just support.

I could always move ahead if it really feels too easy. Everything I read says go slooowwwly.

Well done all of you...keep warm.

howdy!

i've just downloaded the podcast (i'm listening to it now, and i hope the music gets better....but it'll be easier than using a watch!), and will start w1d1 tomorrow morning.
i was just wondering, those running outside, are you running on flat ground only? i live in quite a hilly area, and i'm just trying to work out my route.

cheers!

Welcome, lovinlee! I'm sorry to say the podcast music does not get better . I jog outdoors, my neighborhood is a little hilly, I've planned my routes to avoid the worst of them in the jogging phases.

Faith, along with my MP3 player, keys, and plastic bag for the dog (although good puppy so far has been much too civilized to do any business on the road ), I take a pocket full of tissues. My nose runs terribly in the cold!

Good job, Chris, Week 2 is done for you! I did my second try at Week 4 in CA, and my secret dream is to complete the Bay to Breakers. Talk about hills, the 12K course begins and ends at sea level, but is 215 feet above sea level at its highest point

mslaster, you're going great too, just keep repeating until you're ready to move on to the next week.

Cindy, I go so slowly sometimes I'm surprised I'm moving forward at all

Tomorrow is 45 minutes. I will do it.

Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night...

I could easily have excused myself from jogging today. I was sure when I started out that I would cut it short. But I didn't!

Slower than usual because of the snow, but Week 7 of One Hour Runner is done.

Good morning All! I'm all set & ready for my last session of the week. However, I'm waiting for both DD's to wake up then get the youngest off to preschool then we will be out the door.

Lovinlee! Let me know how you like the podcast. It truly is a pain trying to keep track of the time on a watch while focusing on the run. I do my jogs within our subdivision so outside of a few slight grades here & there it's pretty much flat terrain. So no major hills or anything like that...I don't think I'd make it!

Wow, Shelly... It sure looks beautiful out there but... brrr!!! So I guess this means you don't need to fasten on your rollerblades this morning to go skating?

Cindy -- You're right on...I can't say enough about the support here! Sure makes it a whole lot easier to push thru having each other to cheer us on.

Hello to everyone else out there! I'll be back later after my run.

Hi everyone! I just found this thread today. I did W4D1 yesterday, and it totally kicked my behind! I finished, but I was tired. I looked at week five and shuddered. and then I though- when I started I never would have thought I could run for 5 minutes! and I did yesterday! It's cool to see this thread of people working on the same thing as I am.
