Hi Shelly: Yes I am "blessed" to travel sometimes for work. I am finding that making a point out of running in a new place helps me appreciate it more... pretty nice way to remember a place. The other day I was at a retreat at a wine resort in Temecula and went for a run around the place. It was smaller than I thought so had to improvise and found a dirt path thru the vineyard. The vines are dormant right now but pretty cool to see the plants up close and personal. So of course I had to buy a couple bottles when I left yesterday....
Point is, those things make running more fun and memorable.

Thanks for the warm welcomes Tymom and Shelly!
Tymom -- The running site you mentioned, is that the main one that explains how the C25K works? I've read through that one several times and even have the link to it saved! I've read from so many of you who weren't ever runners before yet had great success with this program and ended up loving it. This has me feeling really optimistic about the whole thing!Shelly -- Hopefully I can get past my self consciousness to actually do this in the great outdoors! Even though DD and I go out walking alot, that is different from running and here I am wondering, now is the whole neighborhood going to be suddenly peering out their windows and laughing their butts off at me because they have never seen me run before?! LOL, as if they don't have lives of their own and nothing better to do, right? ![]() Went out today and got DD's new running shoes. There is no way those high tops of hers would've cut it! btw, the One Hour Runner...is that like a post-graduate program from the C25K? Well I'm hitting the sack now, I think. Good night All! |

Jenny, that's great! Amazing how fast it goes after the first few weeks, isn't it?
Faith, I had the same self-consciousness about running outside where I might be seen ... I'm still slow and overweight, I just don't care what they think. Running outside gets me at least 1/2 dozen smiles and waves from the neighbors every morning, that's a nice way to start the day ![]() One Hour Runner Week 4 started today, another dog went through his invisible fence, but he followed the guy walking his golden on the other side of the street. Weds will start kicking up the time, so far it's been 30 minutes every day.

Good afternoon! Well, DD and I just completed our W1D1!
It was an experience, especially being as it has been 18 years since I've even picked up a jog! The first couple sets it felt like I was wading thru muddy water, my legs were like "uh, ok just what is it you think you're doing to us?!" BUT I'm not feeling bad at all and hardly even tired. Really felt it in my thighs though. Plus it is a bit chilly and windy outside so it was a challenge to work on keeping my breath. I was a little self conscious still. It seemed like everybody and their cousins were out and about today! I can't wait till Wednesday though because I'm all ready to do this again. Thanks Kissa and Jenadlite for the kind welcome! ![]() |

Hey all - Wow all of the talking must go on here on the weekend!
I am swamped on the weekend. But finished up my first week on Saturday!! I start W2D1 tomorrow. I am excited and I haven't been sore at all. I have to admit though, after reading all the posts about the 20 minute run that sounds terrifying!! By the way, I love reading all of these posts! You gals who are running the one hour are amazing - and great to look up to ![]() |

Hey Msgirl! I'm brand new at this. Yesterday was W1D1 for me! Even though you're a week ahead of me already, we're both pretty much just beginning.
Good luck to you!ETA: btw, my thighs are a bit sore this morning. How are you feeling? Last edited by FaithM. : 01-09-2007 at 05:42 AM. |

Kissa, I already can't wait until I am far along enough that I can go the 20+! I am just wondering if I can expect the soreness to be gone by then and if it will be like second nature to me by week 6 and 7.

msgirl and Faith, you may be newbies now but you won't believe how fast this goes, right, Cindy? Don't be afraid of that 20 minute jog, and don't be afraid to repeat a week if you don't feel ready to move on to the next one, I did that twice. I figured it's better to finish in 11 or 12 weeks than to push too hard and end up quitting.
I cut my warmup a little short yesterday and am feeling it in the calves today. Faith, there was one morning it was 12 degrees here... The coolrunning site has some tips for running in different kinds of weather, or maybe I saw that on the runnersworld site. |

FaithM - I am so glad there is someone not far close in sequence with me. I did not get sore the first week at all. Are you doing the cool off period of 5 minutes and stretching really good before you start? I have to make sure and stretch good because I have bad knees. Also I downloaded the podcasts for C25K and they really make it fun!
Where do you live in Central Texas? I used to live in Garland. Until I moved waaaaay up here! I am excited about the 20 minute also! I guess a little excited and a little nervous ItsNot2L8 - thanks for the pointers. I really love this program so far! YOu ladies are a realy inspiration!!

Thanks Shelly! I'll remember to take it slow. It wasn't anywhere near 12 degrees here, lol, but from where I am upper 50's gives me the shivers!
I need to check out that site more, I mostly looked over the running itinerary.Msgirl -- Yes, I always do about 5-10 min. stretches before and after (no matter what I do) plus the 5 minute warm up. I must be extra sore because I'd gotten so behind on my regular workouts. Also think you have to relearn how to run after so long, you know, how to "land" on your feet if that makes any sense! Oh, and I live just south of San Marcos, about a couple hour trip from San Antonio. Not sure how far that is from Garland. How far up did you move? |

FaithM - I now live in Indiana 1000 miles away from Dallas area.
I understand about relearning how to land on your feet. Last night was the first time that I felt a little sore. It wasn't muscles - it was my hip. I think I may be putting too much pressure on my left hip area to keep from hurting my knees (which are a mess!). I hope this is no indication of what will happen as I start running more. It just feels so good when I am doing it. ItsNot2L8 - I still can't imagine the one hour. Sorry about the dog - that is kind of scarey! |

Good Afternoon! Just completed W1D2! I am fighting a cold bug right now so I didn't really feel like going but I'm not feeling bad enough to let myself fall behind when I've just barely gotten started. Now I'm glad I went and got it overwith. If I wasn't feeling it before, then I am really feeling it now!
I'm not sore anywhere but in my thighs. I'm not worried about it, I figure it is a good kind of sore because it means I am working muscles I haven't worked in ages (that I think I forgot even existed, LOL!). There was even another jogger out & about which was good to see. I thought about asking her if she knew about the C25K. Now how cool would that be? ![]() Shelly -- How long is the run for W4D2 of OHR? Sorry about that dog on the loose. I hope he wasn't trying to chase you! We have had our share of stray dogs around our neighborhood too. I will be not a happy camper if I end up with one of them coming after me!Msgirl -- I bet it was a real culture shock moving from here to Indiana! I'm sure the atmosphere up there is much cooler, especially for this time of year? I hope your hip gets to feeling better. It's possible it could be from the pressure in trying to protect your knees. Hopefully it turns out to be just a soreness that will work itself out in time. Hello to everybody else out there and have a wonderful day! |

I am really sad to say that I won't be here for a while!
I went to a specialist store on Monday and if you are interested in what happened have look at my journal. Briefly,I will be taking a couple of weeks off running to retrain my body to move properly while walking, then you will see me again. It is my knees and hips I am hoping to protect! |

msgirl, I'm not quite up to an hour yet, weeks 1-3 are 30 minutes and week 4 is supposed to be 30-29-35 but I was going for 30-32-35. I'll still shoot for 35 on Friday.
Good for you, Faith! Your commitment is strong to keep you running when you don't feel well. The dog really wanted to play with my dog, but I have a large protective German Shepherd and he's just not cool with strange people or dogs rushing up to us. I've done some searching and found a dog repellent called Direct Stop, it's like a can of pepper spray but it's citronella-based, non-toxic and not painful, just unpleasant for the dog. Going to get me a couple cans this weekend. Can also be used on cats, venomous snakes, raccoons, squirrels, opossums, etc. ![]() Cindy, please do stick around during your hiatus, maybe you can give us some tips on moving correctly. I'm sure my form could use some improvement. |

Here I am! I have run twice this week, i am not sticking 'exactly'
to the plan, i just run as long as i can, and then walk to recover, and do it for 30 minutes, at the moment, i am doing 2 miles. My plan is to do that for a week, then bump it to 2.5 miles. I am on a tmill, so it is easy to go by distance. keep up the good work girls! ![]() |

shelby - I am in Richmond on the border of Ohio.
I start W2D2 today and my hip no longer hurts. Thank goodness I have been checking out running shoes everywhere. I just want to make sure that I don't injure my knees anymore and keep my hips safe. I am only 33 and it seems I have hips of someone much older. I did up my calcium to build the bones. I heard an orthopedic dr. tell an older lady the other day that it takes a year of calcium to build up thinning bones!!! So, I am going to work on that. I don't want hip surgery before I am 40!! Good luck to everyone today! |
