watch me shrink,
You have inspired yet another to try callanetics! I just got the videos yesterday (10 in 10 and AM/PM) and plan to begin tonight - I was planning to do callanetics every day, with some upper body workout also. I have the pilates ball and a video that does upper body/legs/lifting to go along with that as well as a couple of videos for ab's that include a lot of upper body lifting in it. My plan is to do the AM every other morning followed by the PM on that same night as well as add in one of my upper body workouts. Then every other opposite night to do the 10 in 10 (an maybe an upper body video). I am wondering your thoughts on that. Too little, too much? I consider myself at least 60 pounds overweight and HATE IT and want it gone ASAP! SO, there is my plan on that, any opinions are greatly welcomed! Thanks and everyone keep up the great work and I hope to post some fantastic before and after pics in the future! |

It's good that you're adding in UB workouts as well, and you may want to add in 2-3 days of cardio. Switching up your workouts keeps your body guessing, which brings best results. Doing the same workout day after day with no other form of training, your body will adapt somewhat and you'll make less progress. And last -- BUT ABSOLUTELY NOT LEAST -- eat clean. Be accountable with your daily food intake. Best of luck to you. (And to you too, Tiffany.) ![]()

Kerry, yes, I've known of those who have done it that way, and Sandra, who is a certified C. trainer, has endorsed that approach on the monthly challenge threads. I've never done it that way, but I know many have.
The only thing I'd be sure to do is to incorporate the stretching in both am as well as pm. The deep engagement of the muscles in this workout is enhanced with the stretching segments. ![]() |

Hey I'm new here, I want to start callanetics. I'm 18 year old. I got fat when I stopped professional dancing (now i'm size UK16, I suggest it's size US12). I need to get back in shape until the summer (at least size US 6). I'm 5'8". Is it possible with callanetics and how many hours a week I should do to make myself fit?
Also, which of the DVD's are better 10 in 10 or the Callanetics Evolution? My eating habits also should change, but I'm still in school and it dictates my daily life. I don't eat red meat, not really into sweets. I usually eat 2 or 3 times a day. Last edited by Ceibhfhionn : 11-19-2008 at 03:25 PM. |

Ok Twyla, I've got a question...
I am really pigeontoed - my hips rotate inwards and frequently I have trouble targeting the proper areas with excercises that involve hip rotation because my hips don't seem to want to roll like the picture says (or I have to thrust myself into some more awkward position just to feel any action in the muscles that are indicated.) That's how it works at least with one of my pilates videos. Do you think I will have trouble with Callanetics or would it be worth a try? And is it something any men out there like to do? My boyfriend and I want to get back to wearing our skinny jeans. hah. Vanja |

thanks to all who posted, and especially twyla for answering so many questions! i'm excited to try it out- i'll post my before and after pix too ![]() |

Hi everyone , new to the board. I'm very impressed with everyone's accomplishments wtg! In light of reading and seeing the results , I just purchased 10/10 Callanetics as I am determined to lose weight, and after seeing all the results I want to give this a chance.
I gained about 25 lbs after having a miscarriage back in May, it rolled up on me pretty quickly to be honest. I am 155 5'4 and would like to be back where I was at 130, 125 on a good count. I have a few questions for the veterans - (1) In doing Callanetics 3x per week for an hour , should I be doing any other exercises in order to reach my weight goal in a couple/few months? ( 2) What would be a healthy daily calorie/fat intake for me while doing this program of Callanetics? I don't know if this next question is appropriate for this area, I apologize in advance. I drink about 6 cans of coke a day, and get pretty bad headaches & mood swings when I do not drink them. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to ween off the cokes? ( as I am sure the coke drinking would not be in a healthy weight goal plan lol) I cannot stand diet sodas/caffeine free sodas, I tried that route and they definitely come in a close run with what I assume drinking liquid cow farts would taste like. I sincerely appreciate your help, I think I will really like this forum, as I have read several posts already and its seems like a super friendly & supportive atmosphere. |

kalalou,
First, I'd like to say sorry to hear about your miscarriage. I have also lost a baby and know how hard that is. ![]() I'll let the experts answer your exercise questions. Regarding the coke, I also used to drink a lot of coke. What seemed to have worked for me was to reduce the intake gradually. I found by doing that that the withdrawal symptoms were not so severe. In your case, maybe drink 5 cans next week, 4 cans the following week etc. Maybe replace a can with a cup of coffee instead? It's a suggestion, but don't know if that has helped a little bit or if you had already tried that. I hope you find a solution that works for you. |

Kalalou,
I can not testify to this by first hand experience but I had a classmate in college who was addicted to coke. Drank it constantly throughout the day. We had to do a holistic modality for one assignment and he chose accupuncture. For him it worked in a couple of sessions. He was so convincing I would like to try it for my sugar addiciton. I just haven't done it yet. But it is something maybe you could google and do some research on. Good luck. Lori ![]() |

Hey guys - another newbie here!!
I got a callanetics DVD several months ago, but haven't yet seriously got myself into a proper routine. My mum does it every day, and looks absolutely fab for her age. I'm 24, around 5'3" and weigh around 168lbs - I'm a UK size 14/16 (US 10/12) Ideally, I would like to get down to about 133-140 lbs and a UK size 12 (even smaller would be fab, but seems unattainable to me now as I've never been any smaller than that), so I've got a bit of work to do. I'm trying to follow the Slimming World eating plan, although I do find myself going astray quite often. Anyways, I intend to do Callanetics 3x per week, and on this thread, I've seen some very promising results. I know that I will perhaps need to take measurements to see results, rather than relying on the scales. I would be interested to know how effective the callanetics would be on their own i.e. without dieting in any way. I do intend to try and stick to a healthy eating plan, but the reason I am so intrigued, is that I managed to drop a dress size last year by simply going to the gym, and without necessarily changing my eating habits. Would callanetics only work without dieting if I were at my target weight? i.e. to tone me up? I keep falling off the SW wagon, which is why I've decided that I need to do some exercise to compensate!! Looking forward to seeing the results. Well done so far to ev1 who's posted - you all look fab!!!!! P.S. It is the Beginning Callanetics DVD I have. |

I have tried trying to tone it down, and will have a good start but a lousy finish most times because I am looking for a pep up to get me through the afternoon & early evening. I think possibly if I work out ( if the dvd ever gets here lol) that it will give me some extra energy I need, and hopefully give me a little help in avoiding that sugar buzz to stay awake. Which brings me to my next question. Does anyone find that they have more energy when they work out in the morning, afternoon or evening? |
