Hello there, another newbie here my story is the following I am already third year student at University, I am studying abroad and when I moved to Holland I gained a lot for little time (due to lots of stress and change in eating habits) however, I tried losing weight by doing lost of different diets and exercises, none of which worked and I quite everything. I am going to try Callanetics now, I have the 10-10 and some other videos. Do you think it will help me? And one other thing is quite bothering me, I don't want for my legs to grow bigger, I have more muscle than needed in those areas and when biking a lot here (in Holland going by bike is the main way of transportation) I grew even bigger in the legs, and I want nice feminine legs I hope it would help me cope with my problem, I will keep you posted! Oh, and girls, OMG all the pictures at the beginning are sooo inspiring, thank you so much for giving me hope that I can also do it! Good luck to everybody else and good job to those that have reached their goal!

Callanetics will do the trick in giving you strong, LONG & LEAN muscles.....BUT... you can't out-train a poor diet. To get the quickest, most noticeable results, combine Callanetics with attention to your nutrition, calories, carbs, protein -- eat clean and on track, and try to get in 3-4 days a week of cardio, 30 mins or so.

You can do it every day as long as you listen to your body and rest when your muscles begin to feel overly fatigued. They will need recovery time.

It's best in my personal opinion to do Callanetics 3-4 x a week, along with cardio 3-4 days a week (same day or off days). But many people have done it more often.

Oh, of course it doesn't I am sorry I forgot mentioning I cut down my calories to 1200 a day and I am doing cardio in the fitness about 5 times a week for at least 60 minutes, I try combining elliptical trainer, treadmill and the standing-in-one-place-bike, I forgot the English word for it, sorry  I did my first Callanetics today, some of the things are tough, others are OK for me the only thing I am going to have problems with is my neck. I know it says that it will get better after some training but it doesn't for me. I trained Tae Bo for a year and a half 5 times a week 3 years ago and there are a lot of sit-ups and everything that teach you to keep your chin to the chest so that your neck is not the one lifting your body, so it didn't go away with that much training so I don't know, we will see

Good for you.

The strength and form will improve with every workout, and it will become more fluid and thus more effective. As you get stronger, the exercises will seem less challenging --- AT TIMES --- but don't be surprised if now and then, even after regularly practicing Callanetics X times per week, that some days may seem far more challenging than others. It's just the nature of the workout. It will seem easier on some days than others. Stick with it.

i am just starting callenetics just from looking at this thread and realising that there is a way to get rid of thunder thighs, which is what "watch me shrink" user mentioned she also had problems with. I am only 23 years old train loads, cardio, running, cycling. gym. but i never seem to have leaner thighs, so i hope this works. I have just done my first session and wow i ache! I can't wait to do more, would u recommend doing the super callenectics if im already quite fit already, or is too soon?
i will send in pictures soon of my progress.

Hi Caroline, I'm from Galway & I've been using the Callanetics DVD's. When are you thinking of starting the Callanetics? Currently there is no one here that teaches Callanetics as I've been searching for months.

Putsey, I would recommend sticking with the basic Callanetics program for your first 10-20 sessions to master the fundamentals. The form and fundamentals are KEY to the efficacy of this program. Yes, your level of fitness factors in, but fundamentals are learned and can't be cheated, so I'd recommend nailing those first.

I know there are MANY MANY MANY people who disagree with this belief, but there are just as many who support it, and that is: People who have a tendency to bulk and/or gain weight easily in their lower bodies (endomorphs? hello?) will benefit from higher rep type workouts (vs. training which emphasizes heavier weight and lower reps for progress). I'm no novice when it comes to the importance of keen nutrition strategy when trying to diet, cut, etc. As well, I've tried all approaches to training. I have learned through tons of trial and error that I have to keep my reps high and weight somewhat low when I train my lower body to avoid that dreaded tendency to "bulk" and/or promote the thunder thigh look.

Callanetics is a WONDERFUL program that helps to lengthen our muscles WHILE gaining strength and definition -- without the BULK.

So PULSE AWAY, girl, and keep up your cardio, watch your nutrition and calories, and you should see great results. Advance to Super C when you think you're ready for more challenge.

New girl on the blog!!

Hello fellow Callaneticers!!! I am a former Callanetics believer. I did Callanetics every single day for at least 5 years back in 1986. Unfortunately, I got away from it and that hard body is hiding under 40 pounds of fat!!! HELP!!! I found this site and purchased Callanetics Evolution. I did my first hour for this month today. Thought I would join up with you all for a little support and accountablity. Actually, I came inches from opening a Callanetics studio in '93. Flew to California and worked out with Callan. I am an absolute believer and excited to transform.

Newbie here.... You all look FABULOUS!! Okay, quick rundown about me, I was a smoker for 22 years and I quit 11 months ago. I thought it would be great and I could get in better shape, blah blah blah. I have since gained 35 lbs and been diagnosed with osteoporosis. Two years ago I could run a mile, do 50 jumping jacks, and 30 push ups and never bat an eye. So, you can imagine that I'm a little frustrated.

I tried counting points and discovered that I don't eat enough to meet my daily allowance. My Dr. actually tried to say maybe I'm just depressed. She also suggested I eat less and increase my activity. (DUH) I tried to tell her I've cut out butter, salt, snack foods, pre packaged garbage, etc. She just gave me the "sure you have" look.

So, since we've ruled out thyroid and gall bladder problems, I'm taking matters into my own hands. I'm a very bright, energetic, and happy person and I refuse to let this get the best of me.

I joined here because I stumbled on callenetics. I'm thinking this will be a good workout for the osteoporosis. I also do treadmill and swimming (because swimming makes my joints feel better). Do you wise people have any other advice??

I can't wait to show ya before and after too. I'm ordering the DVDs tonight!!

ktspencer- I was a smoker for 23 years. I smoked 2 packs a day. Stopped smoking 14 months ago. I'm 5'5", weighed 125 when I quit. I've also gained 35 pounds and see no end to the gain. When we stop smoking, it messes with our blood sugar so when we quit our bodies try to regain what it had while smoking. I quit for a year about 8 years ago. Wish I'd have stayed quit then because it wasn't nearly as hard on my body as it has been this time around. Just wanted to let you know that you aren't alone and it's a matter of controlling your blood sugar- low carb should help with that but I've been unable to get into ketosis at all since quitting. Even tried the fat fast. My body is really messed up. I read it takes 1 month for your body to heal for every year you smoked- so hoping by summer I'll be better. Also, smoking can burn up to 200 calories a day. Honestly, I'm so grateful to finally be rid of that terrible habit, that I'll take these pounds and find a way to get them off eventually! And so will you! Congrats on quitting! It's a wonderful feat!!

Hi there -

So I stumbled upon this website & have been glued to this laptop for the last hour. Quick question...I will be a beginner w/this type of exercise; after completing the beginner dvd, should I proceed w/the hips & behind dvd if my main target is love handles?

All advice is much appreciated. Thanks!

My problem areas include the love handles as well. I've been doing Callanetics since June 2009 and started with the Callanetics Countdown (30-day program). Despite my problem area being something "isolated", I believe that it was much better to concentrate on my whole body.

Therefore, I'd recommend to get your hands on Evolution or CardioCallanetics. If you don't have any (other) form of cardio training, then go with CardioC. 10 years younger in 10 hours is also effective.

Then, do he whole body program regularly, and once in a while really concentrate on those problem handles and I think you'll get rid of them even faster.

Do join us on the January 2010 CALLANETICS challenge!! There are instructors present to answer any questions you might have!

Hi there

I too am working through Callanetics Countdown. Do you feel that it's a good place to start? By the end of it, do you feel that you know the whole program well and could you see results?

Best of luck,

For me, Countdown was a very good way to start. Especially if one's after 10/10. It helps to build strength and slowly progresses towards the correct form.

I know some people who have been satisfied with Countdown and stick with it, but I wanted more and bought the 10/10 (video and book)

Then after following the discussion here I bought CardioC and Evolution. Things really started happening after CardioC. Well, to be exact there have been two major progressparts during my journey. During the Countdown I lost inches really fast and then got sort of stuck. Starting CardioC began another fast paced inchloss.

To sum this all up. For me, Countdown was almost essential to begin with. Through that I built strength and understood what Callanetics is and how it works. Starting straight from 10/10 would have been like wall for me, I'm a perfectionist and not being able to do 400 abs straight away would've been horrible Continuing with 10/10 was natural and I was very happy with that, too. It's a very intense program and takes time to get used to. CardioC and Evolution are new adds to the program. The best thing with both of them is that they explain the Callanetics concepts, which might be a bit hard to master.

Countdown I did every day, but after that tried to workout every other day or three times a week.

Oh, and the results. I bought new pants last spring - size 46. In November there was an event and I could fit in size 40 I don't know if those sizes mean anything to you...

I hope this answered your question

Do join us in the January 2010 CALLANETICS challenge!!

What a huge difference! You look fantastic and you have a beautiful daughter, too.

Uh...dare I say that that dress is a little too big for you? Or is that the way you're standing? Either way, you look fantastic.
