Hi, first of all it's amazing all the transformations! Great job!
Second, I just ordered the dvd 10/10 but haven't got it yet. My question is... when you get in the shape/weight you want, do you still have to keep doing it for 3,4x a week to keep it that way?
TKs!

Hi all, I did Callanetics 14-15 years ago and shrunk down 5 Australian Dress sizes over 5 weeks. Since then I had an MS attack and for a while I was challenged just to walk.

I got rid of my original videos as I thought it unlikely I would be able to use them again

Due to inactivity and chronic fatigue I got heavier and mushier.

But I finally feel it might be possible for me to try again without damaging myself.

I would like to inspire my youngest step-granddaughter!

When we stop smoking, it messes with our blood sugar so when we quit our bodies try to regain what it had while smoking. I quit for a year about 8 years ago. Wish I'd have stayed quit then because it wasn't nearly as hard on my body as it has been this time around. Just wanted to let you know that you aren't alone and it's a matter of controlling your blood sugar- low carb should help with that but I've been unable to get into ketosis at all since quitting. Even tried the fat fast. My body is really messed up. I read it takes 1 month for your body to heal for every year you smoked- so hoping by summer I'll be better. Also, smoking can burn up to 200 calories a day. Honestly, I'm so grateful to finally be rid of that terrible habit, that I'll take these pounds and find a way to get them off eventually! And so will you! Congrats on quitting! It's a wonderful feat!!
OK - a little science for those who have given up or are intending to give up smoking!

When you smoke, the nicoteine plugs the receptors intended for acetycholine and after a while your body makes less. So, one way to prepare for stopping smoking is to attempt to boost your acetycholine by boosting choline intakes. Egg yolk is a good source - especially the yolks from organic eggs - but lecithin granules are probably the richest source (and about the only time I would recommend something made from soy).
You can stir a spoonful of the granules into fruit juice, once or twice a day. Cranberry juice is brilliant.

Choline is a B group vitamin, and is also great for your skin and hair - and will also combat the dreaded constipation that afflicts so many during nicoteine withdrawal.

If you have put on weight subsequent to stopping your body may be trying to mine the food for nicotein or choline, so the lecithin granules may help. (Also, food flavours intensify for a while after you stop smoking).

Actually helped with mine.

But - if you suspect you may be pregnant - the exercises WORK the pelvic muscles very strongly and may not be a good idea.

Hi everyone! I will be starting this program with in the next 2 days. I have seen so many different DVD names and I want to make sure i get the best one for me. I am 5'0 and 137 pounds. I am fine with my weight I just want to tone. I would like to lose 2-3 inches in my waist and lift my but area. Is the 10/10 good for focusing on upper body toning or should I get Super or Evolution?

Also I will also be doing Jillian Michaels Shred as well. What's the best rotation for using both programs?

BTW I'm so happy to have found this board. I will have fun here.

This thread has given me the inspiration to do callanetics! I found the 10 in 10 tape in my local goodwill and thought it looked really old. But when I saw the before and after pics I was amazed. I plan on starting tomorrow morning. I hope to get great results as all of you!

Newbie

I'm a newbie to all this! I actually just registered on LCF after seeing this thread; it totally sparked my interest. I have a couple of questions...I have some weight to lose, 50-60lbs. Are Callanetics good for weight loss, or are they more for toning already slim bodies?
Thanks, everybody.

I think it is great to do along with an diet.. you can tone as you lose weight, it pulls you in and tucks all nice spots for you just like a gurdle, but I dont see this alone helping you lose weight

There are different types of Callanetics. Beginning Callanetics, for example, is brilliant to tone and define your muscles - but during my 5 week application I lost minimal weight in spite of losing 5 dress sizes.

But - once you have used the earlier versions for a while there are versions of Callanetics which are more aerobic, and which do burn the calories.

At the moment it appears that the exercise recipe for maximum impact is non- aerobic Callanetics alternating with the type of exercise involving short spurts of intense activity. These trigger a specific muscle which triggers HGH as well as burning calories, which helps remodel the body much faster. If I can I will find a link to explain that better

Quote from Phil Campbell (Peak 8 exercise)

"A new study shows, and this is really exciting, that when you work the fast twitch fiber and work your heart muscle anaerobically, your body releases exercise-induced growth hormones (HGH) that actually mimic taking injections of growth hormones.

… You get as much as a 530 percent increase in growth hormone!

… It stays your body for two hours, going after body fat like a heat seeking missile. It's so powerful that if you were to do the program today and monitor your blood, it will look like you injected growth hormone illegally. That's why there is no HGH test for Olympic athletes today."

Peak 8 is also a low carb approach as using Carbs impedes the production of HGH.

Research shows that a spike of insulin after training increases somatostatin (the hormone that shuts down HGH).

Wow!

Hey there! First of all congrats you all! I've been watching your awesome results and I'm stunned! I have the 10-10 work out video but am I the only one that feels it's incredible hard to repeat the exercises? All the repetition? I'm 22 years old and not happy with my body. I'm not overweight - yet. I've done the workout now twice but I feel that I'm doing it wrong. It's behing great struggle to even do the 100 repetition. After 20 I want to quit and the day after I'm feeling it in all my muscles! Sounds maybe like I'm expecting it to be easy but losing weight never is. So could you tell me that how was your own first times of Callanetics? Or am I just too weak and out of shape!

Congrats to YOU for making the decision to begin a new workout! I think you picked a winning one, personally!

I'm not exactly a seasoned vet, I just finished my 7th 10/10 workout, and I'm only up to 50 each of the abs and still need to modify some of the pelvis work...BUT I can feel myself getting stronger and stronger each time I do it. It is very motivating. The first 3 rounds were pretty pathetic until I became more familiar with the movements and heard the reminders about form enough to for it all to feel much more natural for this former non-exerciser.

Weak and out of shape describes me to a tee, but that is changing, and quickly! Callan encourages us to listen to our bodies, and I think that is more important than being able to complete ALL of the reps immediately. Our bodies will most often tell us when we are doing too much if we listen. The models make it look deceptively easy-it's not necessarily "easy", but it's doable, and the reps are something most everyone can work up to. Don't beat yourself up, rather encourage yourself to aim for progress, not perfection right out of the gate

It sounds strange, but doing the workout again seems to relieve the soreness from the day before for me, at least! Yesterday I just did the warm ups due to a lack of time, and felt significant relief. It WILL get easier!

Gina, thank you.

The abs in that B/A photo were a combo of Callanetics, cardio (3-4 x a week @ 20-30 mins) and a low carb diet.

As for any ab exercises though?

Twyla, you still look great. Thanks for showing us what's possible after sticking to the program. I first learned about Callanetics last year and decided to give it a try. From May-August I did about 12 hours and went down 2 sizes, but I stopped after experiencing a death in the family. However, I am back on my mission...I did 1 hr yesterday and felt my muscles really working deep within me after that 1st workout. A week prior I had done a workout DVD by The Firm, and I must say...for me...it did not compare to the way my body felt after doing Callanetics. Therefore, I am putting all other workout DVDs back on the shelf and just stick with Callanetics.

Minimal You really only need enough to lay down on your back for the stomach exercises. Mostly, you'll want to find a "barre" - countertop, back of sofa/chair, or top of bedroom bureau - that is about hip to waist height to use for the thigh exercises. Otherwise, know that you can do this in about any amount of space you have with no other equipment.

In my experience, I combined this workout with upper body weights (2-3 x a week) and cardio (30 mins, 2-3 x a week).

Callanetics (10 Years in 10 Hours, and Super, which are the two I've done) doesn't offer enough upper body, so that's why I incorporate lifting weights thorughout the week as well.

Hope this helps.
Can anyone recommend some good upper body workout dvds? Hopefully I already have some good one's in my library of workout dvds! I've got Power 90 (the old original one), Jillian Michaels' Shred, BFBM, and NMTZ, and others. I think I might have "Firm Arms"by The FIRM. I'm thinking to add an upper body dvd right on the heels of finishing a Callanetics workout 3x per week. Then, on the alternating days, do an hour of cardio. Sunday off. Does this sound like a decent plan?
