Anyone use a rebounder/mini trampoline?
I was wondering if anyone here uses a rebounder and what they thought about it for cardio. I have been using mine to jog/bounce on because it does not hurt my shins like jogging on pavement. I may switch once I have lost more weight. Does jogging on a rebounder give you similar benefits as regular jogging? Thanks.

I've got one and I like it although I haven't used it lately because I've been walking and biking outside instead. I always feel like I've had a good workout when I use it. I kind of walk/bounce on it but there are videos to use on it, too.

I have one and I like it. I used it quite a bit before I got my treadmill. It's a great low-impact workout. You can really get your heartrate up there!

I do! I have one at home and in my office. I also keep a timer nearby and try to get in atleast 5 min. intervals. I don't know about anyone else but it burns my bum and calves, lol.

I just got one and really love it! It's been the best and most fun work out I've had in years. The rebounder has helped with my lower back pain, seems like it stretched things out. My legs are feelling fantastic. Even though I've only done 4 work outs with the video I see and feel a difference in my body.
Maybe we should start a mini trampoline work out thread for encouragement. |

Sungoddess, I got my Urban Rebounder from HSN you get the tramp plus a beginers bar that you can attach to the tramp.. Also two DVDs or VHS, your choice also a carrying bag to store it in. They have a three flex pay on it right now that's how I got mine. It means your payment is divided into three. It only took a couple of days to get mine very fast shipping. The quality of the Urban Rebounder is excellent very heavy duty. I just did another workout this afternoon and I feel great! I can't believe how much I'm enjoying this it doesn't seem like excersice at all. I do break out in a sweat so I know it's working. Plus my heart beat gets going. Happy jumping

I have one too
I have a rebounder too and absolutly love it. I have bad knees so jogging is out, in the booklet it says it burns the same calories as jogging. I've only been using it a couple of weeks. I could just do 5 min very slowly to start with. I now up to 15 min. No pain in my knees or hips.

That's great Linda I'm glad your knees aren't bothering you. Keep it up and you'll soon see the pound fallinf off. I'm starting to loose inches I wish I would have measured my self before I started using the rebounder. My pants are getting loose and I'm finding I have more energy. I always had lower back pain and it has all but left me. It's like the bouncing stretched or realind my spine. don't ya just feel geat when your done bouncing around.

I just bought one at an estate sale for $7.50 that looks like it was hardly used. I had one several years ago and didn't use it that much, myself! I got this one for my teenage daughter who needs to find some kind of exercise she enjoys since she needs a lot more endurance/fitness because she is cheerleading this year. (She went from a couch potato to cheerleading! I was stunned that she wanted to be one, she has not been in any sports. So I am encouraging her and trying to help her find workouts that she will stick to. We have free weights and she is using them a little bit.) I got on the rebounder and found that I like it and will start using it on a regular basis, too.
Here is some research I just did: Research has led some scientists to conclude that, "Rebound exercise is the most efficient and effective exercise yet devised by man." The rebound mini-trampoline subjects the body to gravitational pulls ranging from zero at the top of each bounce to 2 - 3 times the force of gravity at the bottom, depending on how high the person is rebounding. Unlike jogging on hard surfaces which puts extreme stress on certain joints such as the ankles and knees eventually damaging them, rebounding affects every joint and cell in the body equally. Plus, there are no cars, dogs, and bad weather to contend with. Rebounding is a zero-impact aerobic exercise that improves blood circulation and increases the capacity of both the heart and lungs. With regular rebounding the resting heart rate can decline 10 beats per minute, which means 5,000 fewer heartbeats in a single night's sleep. The rebounding motion stimulates all internal organs, moves the cerebral-spinal fluid, aqueous fluid within the eyes (many people claim improved eyesight), and does wonders for the intestines. Many immune cells such as T-lymphocytes and macrophages are self-propelled by amoebic action. These cells contain molecules identical to those in muscle tissue. All cells in the body become stronger in response to the increased G force during rebounding, and this cellular exercise results in the self-propelled immune cells being up to 5 times more active. The job description of these cells includes eating viruses, bacteria and even cancer cells, so it is good that they be active. This exercise directly strengthens the immune system. http://www.alkalizeforhealth.net/rebounder.htm |

Additional info from http://www.holistichealthtools.com/rebound.html :
When and how long? The more and the longer you do it the better. 5 minutes is better than 3 or 30 better than 10. You have to find your own routine and do it every day or at least 3-4 times a week. I do my routines for 30 minutes in the morning every day. And often I do it again when I come home from work and sometimes before going to bed. The benefit for that is that you can relax before going to sleep and you'll sleep better. I would not suggest a really straineus workout, just some gentle bounces and meditation. Main Benefits of rebounding a) CELLULAR EXERCISE STRENGTHENS every cell. Because of the extra forces of acceleration and deceleration your weight doubles at the bottom of the bounce or from a time point of view, an hours worth of regular exercise can be done on the rebounder in a half hour. Overall it is 68% more efficient than regular exercise. Albert Einstein made the discovery in 1911 that the body doesn't know the difference of the forces, it only recognizes the double impact. Because of the longer springs, every move is easier and more gentle on the knees and ankles. b) DETOXIFICATION EFFECTS of rebounding. Rebound Exercise circulates the lymphatic fluids and cleanses the lymph system. It works with and against the gravitation pressure. It also increases the white blood count, thus strengthens the immune system. One most important aspect is the return of the trapped blood proteins |

That is some really great info thanks for shareing. I agree with spinal fluid because my lower back is sooo much better. I have a goal of getting in 8,000 steps a day when I keep that up I lose weight. The rebounder sure helps in getting those steps in and it doesn't even feel lke it.

Good for you ibecker your going to love the rebounder! Yesterday I did over 11,000 steps my goal is 8,000 a day because it helps me to lose weight. anyway the extra 3,000 steps came from being on the rebounder other wise I would not normaly get all that in a day.
Funny thing is with all that jumping and extra exercise I've been getting I haven't been sore. Losts more energy instead. When you get your compilation #3 let me how it is. |

d samy, I've never heard of this brand but maybe you could jump on it to make sure it's sturdy. I'm sure you'll be fine with that brand because the tramps seem to last a long time for any brand. If you get one let us know and happy jumping.
Ibecker, that's wonderful that you got yours. I hope you get some time to try it out. Let us know how it's going. My favorite move on the tramp is to run in place with my knees high. This really works my hips and rear I've seen a real change in those areas. |

I recently got my rebounder from 3W.ReboundAIR.com The folding heavy duty one is supposed to handle folks up to 400# so I got that one. It came quickly, no problems. I can jump with a kid & not worry about popping a spring. Very, very fun. I find I get on it a few times a night just for the play.
Mini-tramp is the ONLY exercise I've really found were I can obey the 'pick an exercise you like and can stick with'. I will get on intending to do just the gentle bounce and end up with at least a bit of higher intensity cause it's so fun to do. Haven't been at it long enough to really rave about other benefits, but I can't say I've ever thought of just goin' out for another 5 or 10 minutes of walking in the late evening because it's so easy and fun. |

Nean, I had no idea the rebounder company had a heavy duty tramp. I went online to see it and that baby looks like it would last a life time. Is it very heavy to move around?

Actually check & see if they post a shipping wt. I'd say its about 20#. Mostly hard to handle because it is so big around & I'm short. It comes to my... armpits. I get it on it's side and roll it from the living room out onto the deck and it's no problem. Took two of us to open it the 1st time and it was kinda scary to read the instructions and plan out. It sticks at a certain point where you are taking it from 3/4 open to all the way open, but it actually was easy and no one got hurt
When folded, it's carry-able, but thick. I don't know that I would bother say carrying it on vacation or to a workout class a couple times a week. It really is fun. The workout video seems fun but I haven't bothered to be that formal. |

Thanks for the info. Nean. I have to tell ya I laughed when you said it's up to your armpits and how you roll the beast from room to room.

Use trampoline with high blood pressure?
Does anyone who uses the rebounder have high blood pressure? I'm thinking of buying one but not sure about whether it would be safe for me.

That's great ibecker I was thinking about you the other day wondering how you like #3. I guess I'll have to that one also. The tapes really help me from getting board so I'm not doing the same type of jump all the time.
Blackhills Gal, I've not heard anything about high blood pressure but you could call the company and see what they say. Or maybe if you did get one don't jump real hard on it until you see how it works out. I was watching the rebounder lady on HSN yesterday and she said if you have health problems she recommends lite jumping for 10 minutes at a time. I hope it can work out for you if you get one because it really feels good jumping on it. The best of luck to you. ![]() |
