CALLANETICS CHALLENGE FOR FEBRUARY 2006

This thread is for anyone doing Callanetics by Callan Pinkney, If you wince at the terms "saddle bags" and "thunder thighs" and you want to, eliminate cellulite (who doesnt??) and turn that pear shaped behind into a tight little peach (that sounds so dirty ) then this exercise is for YOU! Callanetics is a series of gentle, precise movements, that when done properly can make a spectacular difference in the shape of your body . We are here to encourage and motivate each other on our journeys to healthy and sexy bodies.

Twyla - Thanks for starting the thread Yes, it's amazing that I have been doing callan for 3 1/2 months already, and I'm not getting tired of it And I'm getting compliments on how toned I look

I read the thread daily but don't post often as I don't have much to contribute with. Due to stress and not eating much I have dropped down to 123 lb this week, but it's within the range I'm fluctating in maintenance. But I'm positive I have shed fat thanks to callan, especially around my midriff and from my peach. I had to buy clothes in size 2 the other day.

I'll be happy to answer any questions about supercallan, even if I'm not expert (but probably have 100 - 120 hours by now). I agree with the open and close being in a strange place in the sequence. I know you are not supposed to switch the exercises around, but I do anyway. I do the open and close directly following the stomach exercises as it seems to belong there. You did great with 35 at your first try!

Mariasol, I can't believe you....a Size 2! Girl!

So glad you're back in touch...we've missed you! Thanks for offering your help...I'll need it at first

Wasn't paying attention earlier with my "daily post" and posted in the January thread, so I'm going to repost here.

Morning everyone!

Began my first hour with Super Callanetics today. Only got as far as the open and close, then had to quit to get ready for work. I don't know how close to the end I was, but I'll finish tonight.

I love the extra challenge it provides for the hips/thighs/legs! Awesome! I hung in there and made it through all reps, but it WAS a challenge...I was needing that!

The open/close, I misspoke, I only made it to Count 35 and I had to take a breather....those are killers!

Rose or Emily or whoever you are, thanks for the tips on the abs in an earlier post....meaning, the open/close will help strengthen the lower abs...wonder why they're closer to the hips/thighs segment than the ab segment earlier in the workout?

Measured today:

Since Oct 31st I've lost
2.5 inches in my hips,
1.5 inches in my waist,
1.25 inches in tops of my thighs, and
1 inch in my mid thighs.

Wanted a "before" measurement to start Super with.

As of today:

Bust 38, Waist 28, Hips 36, Tops of thighs, 22.25, and Mid Thighs 20.5.

Time will tell.................

Everyone have a great day!

Thanks again everyone for your responses to my neck injury...they are very appreciated. Twyla, I am so glad to hear I'm not the only one that did that! I was able to do my 2nd hour today but I took it very easy on the neck exercises. I think from now on that I'll just be very cautious on those unti I am sure my body is getting stronger. I am also not taking any more of the muscle relaxers my doctor prescribed. They made me so drowsy I could barely function.

Starting Stillman's today as well. I really need to knock off these last 15 pounds! I have to wear a slinky bridesmaid dress near the end of May so I really want to look great.....I WANT A PEACH!!!!!

Have a great day everyone!

I just finished hour 4 last night of my 10 in 10 DVD. I am heading to the gym tonight to do my 40 mins. of cardio and upper body weights. If I have enough time, I will try to squeeze in hour 5 of callanetics. If not, I might just do my 30 min. pilates. Then take my shower and pass out!!!!!

I see allot of you talking about "open and close"?!?!?!? Would someone explain what that is? Is that on the other DVD.....Super callanetics or something? I don't remember that term being used on 10 in 10. Thanks so much....

Completed Hour 16 last night!

Okay...still having some problems with the ab exercises. At first, I felt it in my back, and you guys helped me resolve that. My abs were sore once, and now I feel nothing. I can make it through all the ab exercises with no problems at all. I know that my stomach muscles are not that strong, so I must still be doing something wrong. Any ideas??? I know they can't be this difficult to figure out!

Hi!

I was hoping to have already joined you guys, but I've run into a few snags with my 10/10 tape. I ordered it from e-bay (trying to save a few $) and it arrived broken! So I immediatly went to Amazon and spent the $$ I should have spent in the first place and bought the DVD. So, I'm sitting here waiting for it. I got an e-mail saying it was sent. Still waiting. Decided to go online to check and it says it was delivered. Only problem was it was delivered to my cousin's house in PA! I had her address accidently stored in my Amazon account from when I was calculating shipping something to her. Anyway, she is coming down to FL tonight on vacation and I will see her on Friday. So I will have my DVD on Friday, FINALLY.

I can not wait to start this. All of you have such wonderful results from doing this.

I'm sure I will have questions, so I'll be posting again soon with them.

Hour 17 plus 1/2 hour done! I really wanted to get 20 in by Fri. evening but I don't know if that's going to happen. Maybe.

Yesterday someone at work told me if I lose any more weight I'm going to blow away. Well, I told them I really hadn't lost any more weight lately but I had been doing a new workout and they said Wow, I can really tell something's different.

That made me feel great!

Also, I think my tummy pouch I was telling about earlier is starting to go down now. I think it was from the outer muscles tightening up first and creating a pouch in the middle. Thanks to whoever told me that might be what was going on. I'm glad I didn't give up.

Sandy

If your stomach muscles are weak, you will feel it working right under the bustline first. As these muscles become stronger, you will be able to round your shoulders and upper body more and feel the contractions lower in the abdomen. Those lower muscles are working, you just don't feel it as much. Be sure that you are not rocking back and forth, but are moving your head, shoulders, and upper torso as a unit no more that a half-inch in each direction. You can add the open and close if you haven't already. That really works the lower stomach.
THANKS!! I'm probably not doing the form correctly as I do still really feel it in my upper abs right at my ribcage. So I'll try coming up and rounding up a bit more. The way I do the stomach exercises is I bring my upper body up by tensing up my stomach muscles. Kind of contracting them which pulls my body up and in.

Might have to start incorporating the open and close, too, though.

Oh, did get in hour 13 last night....Will have to really focus on form tonight and make sure I"m doing this right....

Glad to have found this thread!! Twyla, I am not doing Super C yet, but I did add open/close to the 10/10 routine. I am glad someone else find them to be killer, because I am having the hardest time with them! I finally reached 100 but that only happened once. Now I am back down to handling only 60. I guess it means it is working something that needs the work!!

You are doing so great. I am so impressed.

Make sure you are rounding up-- head, shoulders and upper torso as a unit--rounding only a half inch up and back. Round even more. Make sure you are not inadvertently rocking your body back and forth or reaching forward with your arms. Hope this helps.

OK, off to do hour 21!! I'm doing 10/10, but I plan to add the kneeling hip and thigh exercise from supercallan because I hate it and it's hard and I figure if it really is that hard and I really do hate it that much, I must really need to do it.

I'm soooo proud of everyone. Keep posting successes--it keeps us all motivated!

Is "Callanetics by Callan Pinkney" the best callanetics out? I'm not familiar with callanetics, and that's why I'm asking.

Also, I probably shouldn't be starting this yet since I just started Atkins the beginning of Jan.

That's the famous 10/10 tape and the one most peope use. Of course you can start now; the sooner you start, the sooner you get a peach.

For my first 13 hours I was having a hard time with the stomach exercises too. I was lucky if I could do 20 or 30 of them without stopping for a breather. Then, about 3 hours ago, I watched them closely on the tape and realized that they are barely moving at all when they do them. All you make is a very slight pulsing movement with your torso and no other part of your body. Now that I've started doing them correctly, I can "almost" easily do all 100 reps every single time and my abs get a really nice workout and not my neck.

Even if you think you're doing all the routines correctly, sometimes it's helpful to take the time to watch them on the tape every now and then to make sure there's not some little thing that you may have missed.

I did hour 16 today!
