In what ways is your DH/SO supportive?
HI, this is sort of a follow up to a few other threads.
I have been annoyed with DH in the past when he said "do you really want to eat that?" etc. Then today I end up telling him I am challenging myself for the next 29 days and would he be supportive blah blah blah and he said what can I do? He's right, I don't want him giving me the "eye" or worse saying something to me but I told him some positive reinforcement while I get this ball rolling the right direction would be nice. DH is trying to lose too and frequently has work lunches and I ask him how it was and he will tell me what he had to navigate around and I tell him good job etc. But it would be fun or nice maybe to have him be able to help me in other ways too and so I was just curious what other peoples SO's or "diet" buddy's do for them. DH has also started exercising with me. Any ideas?

My DH *tries* to be supportive. LOL It's just the way he says things isn't very 'strong' and we both end up laughing. I have told him that I'm pushing for the next 52 days to lose weight so he is trying harder when he sees me going for something I shouldn't. He will also ask me a lot of the times if I'm going to hit the treadmill this day/that day to help with my excerising. He also bought me a tape with some stretch bands to work out with. |

My DH helps cook when he's not working (construction) he does his best to make sure the meal is low carb and good! He also tells me how great I look even if I have lost only 1 pound...lol. Oh...and he helps support my infomercial addiction to buy gym equip. I never use.

My dh encourages me because he will eat low carb meals with me...granted, I make him rolls or something usually. LOL But he sat down with me one day and went through my LC cookbooks and we picked out recipes together.
He isn't a food cop...he doesn't try to govern what I eat, but he does give me positive feedback and he says he's proud of me for what I've accomplished. If I mess up he just says, that's okay, start over again tomorrow! |

Both DH and DS17 mess with me alot....always asking me if its "organic" and such...
DH will eat anything I make...I don't think he has ever turned anything down. He eats high carb...but is slowly making the change. He will make himself salads for lunch and is trying to cut down on junk carbs. He is taking notice, though, since I have been losing... Last edited by Slimin Cindi : 02-24-2008 at 12:31 PM. |

We workout together when we can, he eats lc at home because he doesn't ask me to cook things that I don't eat. He tends to forget now and bring home treats (he works in a chocolate factory!) but for the most part he's always doing whatever he can to support me. He keeps my indoor bike and my outdoor bike updated and in great working condition, too.

DH is selectively *supportive* when steak is for dinner...he will gladly forego his side of starch for an extra 8 oz of beef. This doesn't help me because that means he is cutting into my steak portion. I can eat alot of steak you know!
![]() But really, DH is very support and cooperative and eats whatever I make. He likes to think he is LCing with me, but he clearly isn't because he has pizza and sandwiches for lunch or when I am not around. Last edited by steady : 02-24-2008 at 02:43 PM. |

DH is great...he does most of the cooking for dinner because I work later than he does. He has adapted his cooking to be LC. I will make him his high carb things (cakes, pies, pierogies to name a few) but I don't have any of it.
He's great when it's time to go shopping for new clothes too! He picks out things for me to try and then when I say, "well, what should I get?" he always says, "well, I like all of them, so I guess you're getting all of them." How can I argue with that? He also doesn't have a problem when I say that I need to have time to myself to exercise. He'll keep DS and the dogs out of my way for how ever long I need. I guess I'm pretty lucky I have him.

Mine tries so hard, but I get more discourage when he helps. He has his idea about the diet and I have mine.
I love it when he is supported but if he said one bad thing to me then I am done for the day. I will NOT exercise with my DH, we have tried many times and it never ends good. Again he has his ways and I have mine. |

My man is 100% supportive and has been for the 30 years we have been married. LC is just another example of that support and encouragement. He never ceases to cheer me on, no matter what I choose to do. He's always there to celebrate my successes, encourage me when I doubt myself, and stand behind me no matter what I do. Life is VERY wonderful with this man, I can tell ya!
What can I say about a man who doesn't run with me, but who willingly loads his bicycle onto the back of the car every Saturday morning at 6:00 AM to ride behind me as I run for 3 hours...JUST TO MAKE SURE I AM SAFE. If that's not support/love, then I don't know what is. I am SURELY blessed. ![]() Betty

My hubby is helpful because he puts my shoes on. Now, that might sound ridiculous, but he claims I don't tie a proper square knot and he thinks I'll wipe out on my treadmill if my shoes aren't tied properly.
So, each night before I don't want to necessarily walk on the treadmill, he puts on my shoes and he ties them with proper square knots. He adjusts my socks, too. He's like my Prince Charming. When I finish exercising, every night he looks at me and he smiles so sweetly, and he says, "I am so proud of you for walking," and I say to him, "Thank you for tying my shoes." ![]()

Not only is DH VERY supportive in all the right ways, DS13 is the greatest!!
DS likes to help with dinner - main/meats are up to me and he takes care of the sides. He knows what I can and can't eat. If they are going to eat a starch, he will make a starch for them, a veggie for me and a double veggie for all of us so we can all have two sides and a little variety. He will make sure the starch is on the table at the other end so as not to "tempt" me. ![]() There are couple of places in FL that we used to go eat that's not here in NC (think Krystals) and he said he was going to ask his aunt to take him and his brothers so I won't be tempted, because he didn't want to be mean. I offered to take him and he said if his aunt couldn't take them, he didn't want to go - he doesn't want me to take him. He is SO sweet ![]() He actually picked out legal, LC snacks for me to take on the trip!!! |

![]() I would kill him if we did. ![]() ![]() Mine is converting to the LC WOL too and we work out at the gym together, shop together and he even reads labels now too!! We are trying out new recipes together and it is awesome to have someone on your side, a real partner.............. Mine is becoming a monster with the scale, LOL ![]() ![]() he steps on it more than I do!!!The biggest thing my DH has done to support me though is always tell me I am beautiful and even though I am 100 pounds larger than I was when I first met him, he tells me how much he is still attracted to me (and even acts like it!!). But, I have a binging/purging issue and he went out and bought the book that Fawn recommended and we are reading it together!! ![]() ![]() ![]() That is why I love this man!! |

My DH is really supportive too. He'll eat what I eat, but because he doesn't complain or anything, I'll offer to make him something different for him to eat. I'll even bake him cookies because he's so precious.
![]() He'll let me buy what I need for my woe and he never says anything derogatory about my body and he always tells me how good I look and how beautiful I am especially when I am feeling my ugliest! |

Mine weighs my food for me after he cooks my dindins so I can enter it into Fitday. And he doesn't roll his eyes when I give him a play by play of every.single.pound. I lose or gain.

When I'm discouraged (by my medication or low-carb) he reminds me why I'm doing it. That's the biggest thing.
He's also great about praising my accomplishments and listening to me talk about my WOE. I told him we could eat out at his favorite fast-foods, but I'd bring a my own meal. He said he'd just eat at home until I got to maintenance. Oh, yeah, and he got DANDR on tape from the state library for the blind and read the whole thing. |
