Weight Loss and Relationships

Your thoughts?

Have you gained more friendships, lost some, or which ones have improved since losing weight?

I'll go first: It seems that since losing weight, my marriage is better. I feel more comfortable around DH, when in the past I felt pretty ashamed of my body. I feeling sexier day after day. Exercising truly does a body good .

I'm more outgoing, so I chat with more people, when before I would kind of stick to myself and I created a shell in my bedroom and stayed there most of the time. Now me and kids go out more, I'm able to dress cuter, so I'm always wanting to get dress and go go go !

isn't it wonderful when we take responsibility for our eating so many other aspects of our lives change and negative things seem to go away.

I think it's great that your weight loss has brought you a better relationship with your husband and everyone around.

I havn't lost enough weight to make that much of a difference yet. OH, but I must say, I am willing to go out with DH a lot more. Before losing some weight I felt like a cow, I had about two outfits that I feel comfortable in, which I used to wear over and over and it was just too depressing. Now I put on my sassy clothes, throw on some heels and I think that makes him happier as well.

GOOD FOR YOU, LYN!!!

I am definitely happier, less stressed and thrilled to feel so great ! I've lost a few friends along with the weight (they simply COULD NOT accept the new me) ... but I've made lots of new friends who are very encouraging and supportive, not only of my eating choices, but also of my commitment to running!!!

I love Atkins and all it has done for me, and there's NO WAY I would ever go back to the bonafide couch potato I used to be!

I know this is a thread hijack, but I'm glad to see 2big4mysize and sugarless4life here on this board! I remember you both from another Low Carb board but lost track when I left that site and found my home here.

Good to see you both (and you too, godsbeloved)

I have lost a friend. She had lost some weight (via not low carb) back in the winter - had quite a lot to lose, but I encouraged her constantly... I went back on LC and started losing again - around the time she started gaining her weight back... all of a sudden, she completely withdrew from me - and I thought we were best friends. I asked her if I had done anything - she never had an answer, so this is the only thing I can think of...

I love her and miss her - but I'm not putting weight back on to please her. If I lose her friendship over that, it's just going to have to be lost. I am almost 40 years old and don't have time for such foolishness. I never flaunted my loss in front of her or made any kind of deal out of it.

It's so sad that people are the way that they are.

To sum it up, it seems that this friend was "jealous" of you. Her loss, as I trust that you were a good friend to her.

My husband is my big support but I did lose my best friend of 18 years ?
Are maybe in the long run she was not the friend that I thought she was because true friendship know matter what you weight comes from the heart.

That's the only thing I can honestly come up with. She just out of the blue started turning her eyes away from me at church and stopped speaking. When I made her speak, she was visibly uncomfortable (and this was after I had asked if there was a problem). She had car trouble one Sunday and I offered to help - she adamantly said that she was fine and didn't need my helf (I observed her accepting help from someone else a few minutes later).

That's the conclusion I came to with my friend - and we had confided many things to each other and been there for each other many times...

I can say that since my weight loss I did not loose friends but I notice since I have been concentrating on my relationship with GOD I have lost friends. I realize that I am on a journey with GOD and somepeople can go with me and some people can't.

This is powerful. This week in bible study the pastor said the 'world hated Jesus and will hate you if you seek him'. I am a baby christian but this is very important to understand. In the past I never knew why people attacked me when they found out I was trying to change my life for Jesus. Now I understand better.............when you are attacked for doing something Jesus would approve of............you are on the right path.

My weightloss helped me see who was really a friend and loved me. I had one friend that could not deal with guys paying attention to me and not her because the entire time she knew me, she got all the play.

When I got close to goal, she started spreading rumers that I was 'starving' myself. Basically, that I had a eating disorder. It was a complete lie and I confonted her. Today, she is no longer apart of my life..........................and life is still good.

She is not a bad person but I cant have someone in my corner that does not truely support me.

I believe people are sent into your life for a season.......could be a year, 10 years or one day. Enjoy them and let them leave when it becomes clear the season is over.

brilliant100 this is true. Everyone can't go where you go. I have family members who I had to distance myself from but it does not mean I do not love them. It just mean that we are on two different paths and it is okay.

Very true post.

In life we have to realize that some people come into our lives for a season.

At times it is hard to understand, but God's ways are not ours.

AMEN . HE was persecuted, so will we.

BUT he said "that the battle doesn't belong to us".
