Really Frustrated
Okay, my current situation is really starting to get to me. I worked for a family owned pizza place for 7 years (since I was 14) and my mom called me (whom I don't have a good past with because she didn't know how to be a mom..you can read about that in the "Heal The Pain" thread) and told me that she wanted to move back to Ohio and open a Pizza Place, would I help? I said yes
That lasted for about 2 months. She has not changed, she is still an alcoholic and drug user (while raising a 5 and 6 year old, and I mean nothing to her). So I left, came back to Columbus, without a place to live or a job. My boyfriend was able to go back to his old job but it would be unfair for me to ask for my job back because there is someone there in my spot. We found a place to live, so we aren't living out of our car anymore, but I still can't find a job. I worked as a temp for a call center, but that just is not me. Our assignment was ended and now I'm pretty much jobless (I fill in at my old job a couple times a month. I have no idea what I am going to do. I really have no clothes to get a good job where I have to dress well. I want to do something with my life, and have a good career and not live paycheck to paycheck but it's hard. Thanks for letting me get that out.

Airica - I'm impressed that you've done so well under tough circumstances and you've taken control of your situation as best as you can.
One idea - career counseling organization that can help you plan what you want to do, go back to school for something that will move you closer to your ideal job. One way to get decent clothes cheap is that extremely well know online auction site (I won't mention the exact name) - not impossible to find things for < 10 dollars including shipping. Might be a crap shoot as to whether it fits, but if it's too small, hang onto it for later along your weight loss journey. Good luck and stay strong!

Oh my Ohio friend I hope this is ok to post, but if you need nice clothes for job interviews, at low and I mean LOW prices, go to the Village Discount Store. Its awesome, its just south of Morse Rd. on Cleveland Ave. in the
Amo's Center. Its a thrift store I go there at least once or twice a month. They have name brand clothes for dirt cheap. I used to be embarressed to go in, not any more, not when I see and have talked to ladies in there from New Albany or Muirfield. I have purchased clothes that still have tags on them that have come from the upscale stores in beautiful condition. Ck it out. What kind of work are you looking for? Not being noisey, but since we live kinda in the same "neck of the woods" if I hear of anything I could let you know. Good Luck and keep us posted on how things are going Hey did you notice I didn't even say the Westerville word thru the whole post Take Care.

I wish I had better advise to offer, sadly I havent spoken to my dad in almost 2 years and he didnt even attend my wedding, however you arent letting your mother ruin your life, and that is the most important thing. There is always a light at the end of the tunnel, and you might not be at a point where you can see it but its comming.
And dont forget Ebay for clothing, I bought my wedding dress there and lots of work clothing as well. Last edited by Acura : 08-08-2007 at 12:39 PM. |

You are young and smart..Go to an employment agency..They will definitely find you something..
And Goodwill is a good place to start for clothes..You know, go to a good church and talk to the minister. I'm sure there are tons of people who would be delighted to give you clothes and maybe even find you a good job!!! No kidding.. |

I am in the same area as you are too. As posted by Sherrie if you let me know what kind of work you are looking for I can keep an eye out as well.
Also I just went to a resale shop off of Henderson Rd. right by Platos Closet. I bought a shirt/shirt and pair of pants for $30. (By the way nice brand too) I am going down in sizes and do not want to spend a lot of money on clothes and the safety pins pulling the waist in are not cutting it anymore. I will pray for you. I know it may sound weird but if you have positive thoughts about the job ect. positive things will come your way. Keep your chin up. |

Thanks everyone!
Coming here and knowing that there will be kind words and support is about the only way I am being able to stay positive at all. My weight loss is the only thing I really have control over right now, so I'm investing all of my time in this challenge. I just feel like in my real life there is no support. When I left Columbus and moved up north to help my mom, so much changed. My dad and I don't speak because of his new family, and my grandparents (on my dads side that actually cared about me) are both gone. My best friend of 12 years has chosen a path for her life that I cannot be a part of. And my boyfriend of almost 2 years doesn't offer the kind of support I really need ( which in itself is a whole nother topic, so I'm struggling with making the decision to stay in the relationship or not ) There is just a lot going on right now. My focus on losing this weight, and becoming happy again is almost consuming me, but not in a bad way![]() I don't want to sound conceited, please don't think that. But I am very smart. I have never had something be too hard for me. In school I was at the top of my class, almost always having over a 4.0 grade point average. I was always in accelerated classes as well as active on the National Honor Society, Varsity Softball Team, and many other activities. My childhood was crap, so I became obsessed with being the best at school, and it got me through tough times. After high school, I went crazy. I moved out of my parents house the day before my 18th birthday and started partying and fell in love. That didn't work out. 3 years later left to pick up the pieces of my broken heart I fell into deep depression. I slept around (thank God I didn't contract a disease or a child) drank every day of the week and ate myself even bigger. But I always had my job to rely on. They were like my family. They were my family. Leaving that behind was the hardest thing I have ever had to do. It was the only place where I was truly a part of something. And now that I left for no reason, I'm teetering on the verge of depression again. That is why I came here....honestly, it is the ONLY reason I recommited. Sbarr and Acura ~~ You're right, I could try to go to Ebay and look for some cheap clothing. Thanks! Carolyn ~~ I am using 2 employment agencies right now. The one got me into the call center, which was retention. The call center was okay, I just didn't like that they wanted me to sell a scam, which is what it was. That was not for me. I am in contact with both agencies every day, and they have sent my resume out to many companies. Just waiting to hear something back. Thanks! emijan ~~ Thank you for that link. I will definitely look into that Susi ~~ Thank you for the support, you are such an angel. I will try some second hand shops. Sherrie ~~ You are adoreable! Is the place you are talking about in Northern Lights? If so, I think I know where you are talking about, I have always seen that place, but never went in. I will give it a try. And yes I noticed there were no Westervilles in that post ![]() Katman ~~ Hello fellow buckeye! To answer you and Sherrie's inquiry. I wish I knew what I was looking for. I want something that keeps me in contact with people. I am a people person all the way. I love the rapport and interaction with people. I have thought of going to a nursing home and seeing if there is something I could qualify for but I am afraid that I would become too attatched to the patients. Most places say that you must have experience and the only thing I have experience in is restaurant. I supervised and trained at my previous job. I also have a real estate license, but it is so hard to start a career in real estate without having a nest egg. It costs money to make money there. I just know that I want to work with people. Sherrie and Katman ~~ I am getting plans together for a central Ohio low carb get together this month. Sherrie I know you already have been over to the post but Katman, there is a thread in "local lowcarb" go check it out if you wanna join us. Thanks again everyone, I am starting to feel better. I have been doing online applications all day today. |

Wow, all of your prayers really paid off for me today! Thank you all soooooo much. Just when I thought that today was another wasted jobless day I got two phone calls that brightened my day.
First my old job called me and asked me to work tomorrow night ( I wish it were permanent LOL ) but then I got a call from one of my temp agencies and they got me a position for tomorrow and friday. Okay so it's not permanent, but she did say that if I prove myself they may choose to keep me Thank you all again! |

Hey Lady,
Just cking in to see how things are going for you. My sister is a RN at a nursing home in Delaware, she has worked in nursing homes most of her work life. She tried to get me to work w/her, me being a front recpt./greeter, but I was to scared as you that I would get attached to the patients and just decided to stay in heating/cooling, ICK! How about something like working in retail stores, grocery stores? Loads of folks to deal with. I was going to apply at Meijers grocery, yes in Westerville just for the discounts on clothes/etc... I hear they make decent $$$ of course this is hear say. How about a decent resturant? like Bob Evans place is always packed and I know that they waitress's make great tips, good exercise, and lots of people. I loved working in resturants as a waitress, love to deal w/the "friendly" folks, and loved getting those great tips, hey I can be your best friend for $$ one has to survive. Also how about being a greeter/recpt. for a real estate company like H E R real living (good company) and getting your "foot" in the door so to speak. Maybe then you could move up the ladder w/little to no $$$$, maybe? Oh my mind is full of thougts and if I am driving you crazy let me know. Hey one day I am going to go after my dream job, trucker, but at 44 yrs old I best be doing it REAL soon. Please keep us posted on how all is going, we Ohioians must look out for our brothers & sisters ![]() |
