Hungry for food. . . or the Word!

Hi Everybody!
I raised this question before on another Christian support group recently and didn't really get any feedback on it, so I decided to try it here.

Here's what happend:
One Sunday morning I made breakfast, a nice satisfying egg casserole. I ate a medium portion of it and felt full, however, about an hour or so later I started "feeling" hungry again. Not knowing what I wanted I took some pork rinds and started munching on them, I put those away because it wasn't satisfying me, then decided to grab an sugar free ice cream bar.
I ate that thinking that would the trick, but I ended feeling full and terrible for eating all that stuff.

So after I ate, I was thinking to myself, why did I do that? I feel terrible now, and by that time I'm feeling conviction from the Holy Spirit.

He showed me that I wasn't hungry for food but for the Word and when I began "feeling" that hunger, I needed to read the word, but I thought it was a physical hunger instead of spiritual hunger.
So by the time I realized this, I was on my to feeling condemnation because I missed the mark. Quickly I repented and quoted scripture, "there is no condemnation in Christ Jesus", and went to get fed by the Word.

My quesition is, how many of us confuse physical hunger with spiritual hunger? I do all the time, and I hoping now I will be able to discern it the next time.
I'm sure alot of you have went through this, but for me to find this out during a time when I'm dieting was a revelation to me. If I would go to the Word when I'm feeling like this, I not only get spiritual food, but also not eat which will help lose weight.
I just thank our Heavenly Father , is so gentle and loving when He shows us the things He wants us to learn.
I was so happy afterwards that I wanted to melt!
God Bless!
Diana

I think that may be true at times.
There is a diet but I cannot remember what it is called about this same thing.
I will check to see if I can find it, I saw it on Tyra Banks show one night.
Its all about getting spiritual food and not just eating real food and overeating. Alot of people have supposed to have lost alot of weight on it.
I am not sure but I think it is calle "weighdown" or something like that.

I'm wasn't really talking about the Lord showing me a "diet", but a revelation.
When we are in the Lord, everything should be done through the prompting of the Holy Spirit and according to the word of God.
We are not to feed the flesh with earthly desires, but our spirit should be fed with the word of God, that is stated plainly in the bible.
This is a truth that we all should know and need to know in order to have victory over our lives each and every day.
If we have a problem with some type of bondage in our lives, we take it straight to the source and that is God, His word has every answer for our lives and if we choose to live by them, the we will not have the problems we do, such as eating when we are not hungry as in my case.

I'm glad I was open to the Lord that day, because now I know that I need to get filled with His word and not food. But I still need to eat in order for my body to function as well, I just don't need to eat when I'm not hungry.
This truth should be common knowledge for any Christian who knows the Lord.
I'm still learning and growing in Him, so I have as much to learn as everybody,
God Bless!

Diana... I just peeked in and read your post. I'm hearing what your saying... and agree that the holy spirit prompted you... at a time when you couldn't be satified with food. What a revelation!!! Maybe christians didn't respond before to your message... because they don't have the spiritual understanding from God that we have. I'm not saying that they couldn't... they're just on a different level of understanding then we are... right sister? Anyways... I've been where you've been numerous of times... with the overeating I mean... but haven't had the strength in the past to say no to food and yes to the word... when the holy spirit was trying to tell me something. I just would not listen. Now that you've brought up the matter... and I'm taking the time to think about it... it makes alot of sense to turn to the word for hunger and not food. I think that Ladies that mentioned about the "scripture diet"... I assume that's what it is... was only trying to help you steer in the right direction... I don't think she was meaning any harm. I've hear of that kind of diet before... but it doesn't mean that you have to go that route. The fact that God gave you a NEW revelation... conserning food... is a gift from the almighty and I would be excited and thrilled... as you are to share this with other christians and non-christians alike. WTG!!!

Sista in Christ...

Hi Tammy,
You get it!!!, Exactly what you said is what I felt too.
That's all I was trying to say, about listening to the Holy Spirit. I absolutley did not mean to sound offensive or get upset about that. If I did, please forgive me, all who read my response. I did realize that they want to help and thanks for showing me that too.
I'm going Gods' way and that's the only way for me.
Thank You so much Tammy for understanding and responding back. And Thank you for calling me Sista, that's awesome!
God Bless,
Diana

Diana... your so welcome!!! I'm glad I made your day and that I could give you a good response. It's great that we came to a wonderful understanding... and that we had a good debate. Glad to have meet you and that God will keep relieving his wonderful secrets and golden nuggets your way. I love the Lord very much and love it when I met someone who understands things spiritually... that is a rare thing in the christian culture... but truely amazing and uplifting when it happens. You should visit my christian friends on the "Sistas in Christ" thread... if you haven't already done so. They're very spiritual and understand what we're talking about. Although most of them are on vacation... I will be there andI would love to talk to you more... we're caring christians and I hope you will visit as often as you like.

God BLess...

God is faithful, even in the small things. We may think our problems are trivial to God, but He chose the sparrow for an example of how he cares for even the lowliest creature. Our God is a Mighty God!

You are so right. My problem is that sometimes I forget to get quiet and listen. I want to take everything into my own hands instead of turning it over to God and leaving it there. I know that we still have to do our part instead of just waiting for God to do it all. If we aren't moving, God can't direct us!
Blessings in Christ

I think we all forget to be silent, I know I do, like when it comes to buying groceries! After I spend too much, that's when I went to the Lord and said, "why did I spend so much"! LOL
But like the story of the song World Changer posted, "it is well with my soul".
I'm not stressing out, and I've learned my lesson.
God Bless,
Diana
