Prayers Needed

Good morning LCF! I hope all is well for you. I'm posting today because I have a prayer request for my fiance's baby cousin.

A month back, Ryan's (my fiance) cousin Tim and Tammy were due to have a baby in July. A few weeks before she was due, Tammy was really bloated and not feeling well, so she visited her doctor. The doctor knew something wasn't right w/ the baby, so they were sent to Iowa City to go to the University Hospital.

They thought the baby had down syndrome. After running many tests, they ruled that out. They did discover that the baby had only three of her four heart valves. They decided to induce Tammy. Once the baby, Shayla, was born, she had to have open heart surgery. Open heart surgery went well, but Shayla had another complication. She was unable to breath on her own--I'm not sure of the details, but something w/ her nose being closed? So they did one surgery on the nose, and that went fine, but they decided they needed to do another surgery on her nose.

Shayla was scheduled for surgery Wednesday, and so on Tuesday Tim and and Tammy drove home to rest. They got a call from the doctor Tuesday night from the doctor "I just need to let you know that we needed to do the nose surgery today, and she is okay now, but we almost lost her."

Apparently, Shayla had a bad allergic reaction to the anesthesia (Which is puzzling--because wouldn't they have used the same anesthetic w/ the other surgeries?). When bad allergic reactions occur w/ this anesthesia, it 'cooks' people from the inside out. Shayla's temp immediately shot up 3 degrees, and they had to pack her in ice. Thank god they were able to control it.

I'm asking for all of you to pray for Shayla and her family. Even if you don't pray, please at least keep her in your thoughts. We will be visiting Shayla on Saturday and I will keep everyone posted. Thank you in advance.

My family and I went down to see the baby at the university hospital on Saturday. She is not doing well at all. They let us go back there two at a time and it is SO sad!!! She's got lots and lots of tubes in her...and the one down her throat prevents her from making sounds. You can SEE her face crying, but nothing comes out!!! It's terrible!!! She's not breathing on her own. Her heart beat is really irregular and one second it's at 130 and then it shoots up to 240. It's scary. We got a call last night from Tim (baby's dad) saying the doctors changed her diaper and didn't like what they saw (idk if it was blood or what?) in it. They did an ultrasound and apparently when they did the heart surgery and were stitching the tubes in, they put a suture through the intestines. So this is pulling the intestines against the stomach wall and causing lots of problems. So this poor little baby is having her FOURTH surgery this morning--at only 3wks old. She only weighs 5lbs. She is SO beautiful.
I'm going to organize a benefit for them...but I am not sure how. Does anyone have any ideas??

Shayla had her surgery yesterday! It ended up being a four hour surgery because the sutures weren't going through the intestines, they were going through her appendix. So they removed that. So far so good!!!!
