Dr. Phil Wed. 1/30: Both Good and Bad Attitudes Toward Fat Women

On Dr. Phil today, the topic was men who actually prefer really big women. It was rather refreshing to see attractive men enthusiastically proclaiming such sentiments as "The bigger, the sexier!" and saying they really don't care for skinny women.

The featured married couple talked about both of their insecurities about what would happen if she lost weight. She weight about 300 and he adored her just as she was...but she was tired of her weight and wanted to lose a lot of it without worrying about his attraction to her. They were an adorable couple, so much in love. Dr. Phil set them up with soime helpful resources to try to lose weight together.

Then there was a couple of young men-non identical twins, in fact--where the one guy loved big women and his brother weas just a total JERK about fat women. Said all fat women are embarassing, disgusting, stinky, sloppy, and other negative things. Dr. Phil couldn't get him to admit this was prejudiced as heck. The guy's attitude was simply, "Well, the things I'm saying are TRUE. Fat women need to lose weight, they're disgusting, they're whales!"

He and his brother were black.

I sat there thinking "Are you kidding me, kiddo? If someone said "All black people are stupid, sloppy, stinky and disgusting" , he'd be so offended. But he saw nothing wrong with openly sharing those attitudes about large women!

His brother stuck to his guns though, and said he liked the kind of women he liked, and his jerkwad brother could just deal.

Anyone else see it? With all the hurt feelings so many of us have experienced, it was beautiful to see confident fat women feeling sexy and appreciated.
