I hurt my mama's feelings, I think
She has a tendency to be WAYYYY oversensitive.
I called her and told her to specifically NOT buy me any sugary stuff for Christmas. She does this every year. The candy, the hot chocolate mix, etc., etc... I do not want to blow it, and I do not want her to give me anything sugary. All I said to her was, "Hey, I'm doing really well losing weight, so could you please not buy me anything sweet or sugary for Christmas this year?" I don't think I was hateful or rude about it, but she seemed offended. My mother is, now, exactly the same height and weight as me, but when she was MY age, she never struggled with her weight. Now she does, but she'll also call me and say things like, "Oh, I've gotten so fat... and I just ate a bag of cookies." Then, uh, quit eating the cookies if you're going to complain about being fat. Duhh.. I dunno man.. I don't want to hurt my mom's feelings, but at the same time, she HAS to respect my wishes and not give me a bunch of crappy food just because it's Christmas.

Hello lissa,
I know exactly how ya feel about getting alot of sugary stuff for Christmas. I get it every year too. Even though my sister knows that I am trying to get healthy agian, she bought me tons of candy. I will just give it away to someone who does want it or I may even throw it out. I hope you and your mom will have a good Christmas! |

I know what you mean - you want her to "hear" you and not be offended.... Sometimes it doesn't work. If you find that to be the case, IMHO I wouldn't repeat your request - just accept what she gives you and then give it away. Not worth the hurt feelings. I always think "in 5 years from now will this be important and will I remember this?" It works for me all the time.

I understand. I have had the same ongoing situation with my stepmother for years. She knows I low-carb, yet I always get sugary things for Christmas. Last year, it was a basket that had biscotti, pasta, hot cocoa mixes... This year, it was an assortment of poundcake mixes. To make it worse, when we go over there for any reason (not just Christmas), she tries to guilt-trip me into taking home dessert. I just flatly refuse. It's frustrating, believe me I know.
I guess "regifting" the stuff is what I should do, too. ![]() |
