Need support - Lost 2 Dogs in 2 Days

I am just so sad right now. I had 3 pomeranians, one is six, the other two were 17 and 14 years old. My 14 year old had surgery for breast cancer in June and was fine till about a month ago and the cancer came back and really took over. She was Ok til about Monday, in spite of her tumors, when she didn't want to eat her dog food. We gave her chicken and she was OK till Wednesday/Thursday when she refused to eat at all, started throwing up constantly and was just laying in it and her pee. We brought her to the vet on Friday and decided to let her go. She was really my dog and I was devastated. Then we get home and Friday night my 17 year old starts having seizures (like little strokes). She can't stand, is having trouble breathing. We call the vet Saturday (today) morning and are told to bring her in at 1:30. Well, about 10:30 she is laying in her bed cause she can't stand and all of a sudden she just lets out a big sigh and just dies. Now all of a sudden we only have one dog and it just feels so quiet and empty. Putting one dog to sleep and then having the other one die the next day is just too much. Our dogs were just like our kids and we are just in shock right now. Thanks for listening.

I know that empty feeling like you we had one Dog left but he is 14 almost blind and deaf. We went a few Days later and got a Dog from the Humane Society. Angel is great she will never replace them of course but she has really helped.

((((((((Pommie))))))) I am so sorry. I have two choc labs, they are just over a year old , two pugs, 3 cats and a black lab that is about 9 yrs old. She is having trouble jumping on the bed like she used to , but most of the time she is still spunky. I noticed tumors on her, and the vet said they were probably just the fatty kind that are harmless, but still I was scared.

One nite I just looked at her and was thinking about life, the kids, our family and how she has been such a part of it all. She has been on our long road trips to where my hubby goes to work, she has been such a good mannered dog and so smart and sensitive to us. She is my hubby's dog , she adores him to a fault. Well he is off working and she sticks to my side or my oldest son's side while her Daddy is off working.

I guess with hubby being gone , things get to me more and just thinking about Snoopy passing one day makes me literally cry .

I guess I can say I do understand your pain as I have lost a few dogs in my life that were like kids to me.

It is ok to feel sad, and it is very hard to get over losing such a close companion and I know the house feels empty.
When I lost my pug last year, he got ran over, I went against what everyone tells you about going out and getting another dog. I knew I couldnt replace that pug, but there was such a part of something that was missing.
I just so happen to run across an add of two brother pugs that needed a new home, while I was out of state, at the Petco.

I called the lady who had them and she met me there and brought me Bert and Ernie. She had cancer and had to get rid of them because she was moving. Well , they were nothing like my other pug in personiality , but one of them really took to me and wanted only me , wanted to lay on me like a baby . The other one just loved everyone and was just as sweet.

Well, now I am have too many dogs but they fill a need I have I guess, and I guess I am rambling, but I understand what you say you dogs meant to you.........I hope the pain eases soon, I hate to hear anyone feeling so sad.

Hugsssssssss, Dede

I am so sorry! The loss of a pet (especially two back to back) is so hard. Give your other one lots of love, and you might go to a health food store for a bach flower remedy for grief. The other dog will likely get very sad and depressed and putting a little of the remedy in his/her water will help a lot. You can take the remedy too, and they really work!

That is awful, I am so sorry for you loss! Keep your little one close as you both ride this out together. I like the idea of the natural remedy mentioned by another poster, this sounds like a good idea. Take care, you'll see eachother again at the rainbow bridge.

Thank you all for your kind words. I think I have seen that flower remedy at Whole Foods. I will take a ride today and see if I can pick some up. Only other dog lovers can understand what it means to lose them. Jann and Dede, I will probably also be ready for another one or two after some time has passed. Anyway, feeling a little better today and once again thanks so much for caring.

Oh how sad. I'm so sorry for your loss. It does leave a big whole in our lives when some of our pet family leaves us. I have recently lost one of my old cats. It's hard to remember everyday at feeding time that there will be less petting and loving to do. He was an old barn cat about 8 years old but was always here to greet me when I came home from work. Suddenly last week he just disappeared. It worries me what might have happened to him. He had never ever missed a day coming to greet me.

My son's cat was bit by a snake and has a bad infection from it. He's doing pretty good but we didn't know if he would survive. He's very special to us and we usually have him in the house. But he tends to run out the door when the weather makes him frisky and I think he accidentally got locked out all day.

Your pets had a long, loving life. I'm sorry you lost them so close together. I hope you find a new puppy to help fill your heart again.

People without pets have no idea. I have two cats and if anything happened to them, I would be devastated. I am so very sorry for your loss. I guess the only positive is they aren't in pain anymore. My heart goes out to you.

John - that's exactly how it feels - empty. Thanks for all of your kind words everybody. Each day gets a little better, but I'll never forget my "babies".
