Conquering self-sabotage - how did you break the cycle?

I would love to hear from those of you who feel that broke and addiction to food or carbs. What techniques did you use? What made you finally "get it?"

For me - it was realizing that carbs are like an addiction. I've made a conscious decision that certain foods are not skinny-friendly for me and I'd rather eat low carb and feel good about myself than carby and bloaty.

I am still trying to figure it out.... Just a day at a time, trying not to think about food 24/7.

I have started keeping a food journal which includes the following...
  • Time of Day
  • How hungry I am on a scale from 1-5
  • What I ate
  • How was I feeling when I ate it?

The hunger rating and the feelings are the most crucial part for me because they force me to think about my emotions and if I am emotionally hungry of physically hungry. It has really helped me with my binging tremendously.

By not eating it, I lost the taste for it. Sure I get cravings....I'm human after all...but I just try to get my mind off it and get on with my day best I can until I don't think about that kind of food anymore.

Also, by buying my new warddrobe (which has been my life long dream to be able to just reach into the closet and be able to fit into EVERYTHING in there) means there is no room for error.

Also, for a long period of time,I stayed off the scale. I couldn't obsess about the numbers, and sabotage myself if I didn't know!

And the most used motto ever----> ONE DAY AT A TIME!!

I realized that all that junk food and bread doesn't taste as good as thin feels.

Me too. I am trying to treat the food/carbs like cigarettes - Even though I really enjoy them, they are really bad for me.
