Depression caused by...

I had something happened to me, after surgery. I was paralyzed for 4 hours caused by a rare disorder pseudocholine deficency from the general ansethsia. It really had an affect on me. I couldn't move, only my mind and ears were working. When I came to, I didn't ever want to close my eyes, while in the hospital...thinking about it bothers me.

NOW....I've been crying for no reason....been cursing alot, not happy, just plain depressed. Moreso after surgery. Now its Christmas, and I can't get in the mood. I don't have nothing up to do with Christmas, I don't even want to go shopping, and I HAVE too, got tons of gifts I need to get. BLAHHH!

I was a lil depressed before surgery, I just thought it could have been due to chronic pain. I have been in pain since March of this year.

But I have been deeply depressed since last Monday/Tuesday, after my surgery. Could this be possible??

I'm going to see a doctor soon, the appt. is already set.

TIA.

Hugs to you. Be very gentle with yourself-- you went through something pretty scary it sounds like. Just do what you are able to do for the holidays. If anyone asks, and you feel like it, explain that you're under the weather from the surgery, and to cut you some slack. Take good care.....

TIA - first of all- I have to tell you I always hunt down you before and after pictures when I need a reminder that it does work. Your loss an overall transformation blows me away. Not sure what kind of surgery you had but I am wondering if you had anathesia (spelling). There are many folks who have a depressing reaction to that medication that lingers. The best news is that you have a doctors appointment and you are not settling for less than you deserve. Let us know how you are doing and know that your progress is motivating a ton of us who can't seem to get our acts together.
Warm thoughts
Kerry

Thanks so much Kerry

I had exploratory laproscopy, and had the general ansthesia, that caused the paralysation for 4 hours. I am just hopeing to get better. And I'm definetly going to that dr. appt. I don't want to lose what I worked so hard for, if you know what I mean.

I'll keep y'all posted, and thanks for your kind words

I'm so sorry you are feeling depressed, especially for the Holidays. I do believe you can suffer depression after surgery due to the anesthesia. You had that plus your other bad experience. Of course get checked, but I would be patient and it will probably pass in time. I had the experience of becoming depressed after minor surgery to remove a fatty tumor on my upper back. It did pass in a few weeks. I believe it was from the anesthesia because I react to even over the counter medicines (can't take cough medicines or cold medicines). In my experience with doctors most of them don't know much about depression other than to write out a prescription for anit-depressants. Sometimes that is needed, but in the case of post surgical depression, it usually passes in time. Try not to get too upset and roll with it for a while. Best wishes.

When I had my second back surgery I experienced that kind of depression but I was warned that it happens after surgery. Praying things improve for you soon.

hi tia, so sorry you feel so depressed. surgery throws off hormones and metabolism, because of the trauma to the body. pls let your doctor know how bad it is, and he can help you thru this. rest as much as you can, and pls let us know what the doctor says, and how you are doing. God bless
