"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope." Jeremiah 29:11

and another...

"Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins." 1 John 4:10

I like this one too....

"Sing unto the Lord, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.

For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning." Psalms 30:4-5

Ok, just one more......

It is one of the best for showing us how much of a protective, loving father God is and more importantly, wants to be to us if we will only let Him. Thanks for sharing!

Sometimes being still and trusting God is the hardest part of having faith. It is sometimes easier for us to trust ourselves more than God since we think we have more control over ourselves. It is really a control issue, and for many of us it's hard to give up. Faith is not always easy!

The following verse gives me comfort because it helps me remember we will NOT always have to live in this messed up world of political correctness. That is - where evil is called good and good is called evil!

"He who justifies the wicked, and he who condemns the just, Both of them alike are an abomination to the Lord." Proverbs 17:15

I think my favorite of all time is Mark 9:24 (and the surrounding story,) where a man brings his son to Jesus and explains that the boy's posessed by a demon and asks Jesus to help if He can, and Jesus says, "If? Anything is possible if you believe." And the man says (24,) "I do believe, Lord, but help me not to doubt." And Jesus immediately cures his son.

I love that the man very honestly shows the struggle that so many of us have, that he believes but still has doubts - he doesn't lie about it or try to hide it, he very openly admits to his Lord that he has doubts. And I love that Jesus understands that and doesn't condemn him for that - He could have said, "well, since you don't believe enough, it ain't gonna happen, better work on your faith..." but He didn't; He heals his son.

Because He knows. He cares. He loves us, even when we struggle with doubts. He understands.

Yes! It would also be nice if they pasted it on the foreheads of lawyers, so that when they looked at one another they would be reminded of it!

I love that story too. We've got the movie "Jesus of Nazareth" and that story is portrayed in the movie. The father appealing to Jesus is shown as being distraught over his son's condition - like the father is in more pain having to watch his son go through that then he would be if he went through it himself. It's incredibly moving. And of course you have sympathy for him too because we all struggle with doubt at one time or another.

I love that about the story too! I'm sure God would much rather deal with our doubts than deal with us when we won't even be honest about ourselves.

This is part of what Paul wrote from prison to Timothy. (Italics mine.) It's from 2 Timothy 1: 7 - 10:

"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;

We were asked a similar question in our Sunday school class. This one gives me hope and comfort.

This doesn't exactly make me feel inspired or hopeful. It just makes me think that we need to strike a proper balance in our lives. To be wealthy can actually be a curse if it makes us forget about God.

It's a lot easier than scrolling through all the posts in a forum, when you want to know if there has been any new activity in an area.

I *think* there is a way to keep an eye on things with e-mail alert, but I have not explored all the options yet. If you find out, could you let me know?

Lisa, this is one of my absolute favorites! Such a great reminder that God is bigger than me and He exists not only outside of my troubles (as in, He has already been here and knows the best way to handle my situation) but He also carries me through the trial----His peace, His stregth, His wisdom. I don't need to worry!










Although I still do tend to worry, a lot. That is probably why I like this verse so much.

But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law."

True freedom from outwardly enforced regulations, because God will direct my heart to do what is right. Actually, this is the verse that prompted me to do something about my eating habits. I finally recognized my sugar "addiction" as the idol worship it really is. And it broke my heart.

Matt. 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.

The story of my life. The "natural" me has a quick temper, and often is more concerned with being "right" (as in winning an argument) than it is with the heart of Jesus. Jesus did not compromise truth, but He still loved those who opposed Him.


One more:
Matt. 5:43-48 You have heard that it was said 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes the sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

I couldn't say it any better than Jesus did.

I loved all the verses you quoted Lisa, but this one especially strikes a cord with me. I used to have a poster with this verse on it. It's one of those verses you have to remember when times get really tough!!
