My Ex Sister in law is making me crazy!

I hope I posted this in the write place? And sorry such a long post.

Ok here is the story so far, my niece stays with me 4 days a week and three with her mom. Her daddy(my brother) is really sick he has really Bad Bad diabetes sometimes his blood sugar is over 700 he has been in a partial coma it has been really hard.
He has lost a lot of brain funtion and cant walk very good he takes four to six shots a day (most of the time I give them) and sometimes that helps but most of the time he seems in a different world but he still has part custody and at time tries to talk to his daughter. But I know she can feel somthing is wrong and it is...

My problem is with his ex she is so neglectful of my niece when she has her days with her it scares me to send her over there! I live in Phoenix,az. and I dread the summer because I know she will come over here all burned from swimming so far this year it has been two times bad sunburns, this happens every year. Over and Over omg I just hate it! She has really fair skin with freckles. Tonight she came over with a bad sunburn even the top of her ears are cooked!
I send her sunblock to take home but she said she cant find it? Her mom lays in the sun all day and told her it was ok for her to do it too?? I find this really strange because she has cancer! I don't understand how she can think burning your skin over and over is Ok? Last year her son lost his big toenail to a fungus she never took him to a Dr. till it was to late? I wonder about her? She sure takes herself to the Dr. for any little thing..
I took pictures of her burns just like I have in all the years some of the burns look really Awfull! I just don't know what to do? I'm not her mom and I feel so helpless.. and she looks to me for help and I don't know what to do..

Any advice is really welcome And Prayers!

I've had a few burns in my life some bad ones but I had a grandma and mom that would scream at me to get out of the sun! ( I thank God for them)

Maybe talk both to your niece and her mother about the importance of sun protection. How old is your niece? Does she give you a reason why she cannot find the sunblock? Is there any chance that your niece would like to get a tan. If so, a self tanner would give her color, but emphasize to her that the sunblock is still needed. You could also show your niece pictures of what too much sun can do to a person.

Best Wishes!

I work at family court and if I were you I would report her to your local child protective services. Unless someone intervenes, it is going to keep happening. It's amazing the harm some parents cause their children.

How old is your niece? If she is over 5 then she is old enough to put lotion on herself. I bought both my kids that funky blue stuff and they loved putting it all over them Send her a little sunblock care packeage and show her how to use it and explain how important it is. As far as SIL goes she is a moron and the kids are darn lucky to have you.
Sorry about your DB my DH has been sick with heart troubles for almost two years and it is hard on a family.

My niece is 11 and has a really bad time remembering where anything is at. At her moms house everything is in piles? I've been told but have not seen this with my own eyes. Over there they are allowed to do what they want.
I don't hate her mom at one time we were good friends I just don't know why she is so neglectful of her kids?

But I do have some good news I took her to the Dr. on friday and she wrote a note to her mother (she picks her up on monday) and it tells her that my niece is not allowed to go swimming without sunblock or during the heat of the day and if she has one more sunburn due to neglectful Behaviour that the Athorities of child wellfare will be called. It is a wonderful note
And I know the Dr. will call them.

What is the brand of the blue stuff? This might work! I send her sunblock every week and it is gone...but this is the way of the world at her moms.

I think coppertone makes it. It goes on bright blue so they cannot miss covering any spots then it fades to clear. My kids love painting themselves blue before swimming.

Something Murad Skincare makes is pomegrante extract which when you take it gives you (internally) about 25-30 spf factor. Would she take a capsule? You could give her the capsules of pomegrante the days she stays with you. Also I agree that she needs to assume some responsibililty here about applying sunscreen; she's not too young; I knew to do that when I was her age. Also agree that to let a kid with fair freckled skin get burned over and over verges on the criminal. Good luck and bless you for what you're trying to do here.
