Fear of shopping now that you are thinner

I always had issues with buying pants/skirts since my hips are so wide& legs so big...
But now that I lost almost 30 lbs my pants no longer fit, and even the ones that fit me when I was this weight before are loose & pple are noticing and commenting lol. Not to meantion I look horrible & need to pull up, adjust them constantly. Also these are not the type of clothes, that you'd alter.
But I'm afraid to go shopping because possibly sizes have changed( gotten smaller) and I'm afraid to see 16 instead of the 10-12 I think i might need.

i understand completely. I have been avoiding buying clothes for two weeks now. i started at an 18/20 (really more of a 20) and now, i think i'm a 16 but i'm scared to find out. i'm scared to try on that 16 and have it be tight. the loose clothes make me feel like i've lost but a tight 16 might make me feel like it isnt enough.

I enjoyed shopping when I was thinner . I could buy the cutest clothing for less money, and they fit me so nicely. Back then, I didn't have to debate on what fits, what shows this and that. I was comfy .

Best wishes to you! You look great .

I actually go shopping and buy clothes I like in smaller sizes to reach my goal of fitting into them. Just cleaned my closet out over the weekend and realized I had gotten about 30 pairs of jeans...I was like...dang...if I just get to goal, I will have lots of clothes to wear!!!! Don't be afraid...Go shopping girl! You deserve it!

Thank you all I'm not crazy!!!!!
It will be my mission to convince myself of that for the next 2 weeks( i have an event then), and hopefully buy a few transitional pairs for my bottom half hoping to be out of them shortly after.

I dread shopping when losing weight too, because I had a baby and NEW my body shape was so much different than before... I found that when you go into a store with the mission of finding a SINGLE pair of jeans/pants, be prepared to try on several different brands, different cuts in the same brand, and bring at least 3 sizes into the fitting room!!! SERIOUSLY!!! This is so you can learn which brands fit big, small or average. I did this the first time I bought a transitional pair of jeans, and now, when I want to see if I've gone down a size in jeans, I know I can go into a store and buy the next size down in the exact same pants!!!

Don't let all the different brands, styles and sizes get you down! They are horribly mind boggling!!!

Good luck and WTG on your losses !!!

Get yourself to the store and sizes be darned!! You know you're smaller because you've lost 30 lbs--great job!! You'll probably find the opposite, that vanity sizes are the norm and you'll wear a smaller size than you thought. But get to shopping--nothing looks worse than baggy, ill-fitting clothing! Good luck!

im a bit afraid of shopping.. i'm afraid (even tho i've lost quite a bit) that i will need a huge size and i'll end up crying in the dressing room.

I really want to make sure i am a solid 16 or xl in misses before I shop someday. I really don't want to be in plus sizes anymore. I wear a 16 long jeans from old navy with a bit of stretch but that's as brave as I got. Haven't tried any khakis or skirts...

sigh... i think when get 10-15 more lbs off I will be braver.

Don't be afraid, if anything, sizes have gotten bigger. Vanity sizing is really the norm in any regular department store and you may be pleasantly surprised with the size you can fit into. 10 years ago I was 10 lbs lighter and a size 8-10. Now I am a size 4-6

Go and enjoy. You shape depends on what size you will wear. At you ht and wt, you may find you are a 12 if you carry wt on your bottom half. Also keep in mind that cheap clothing runs small. Shop at a nice dept store and you will look great to get out of those too big pants.

I'm 157 and a bit over 5'5".lol hopefully i'll be a 10 lol. Vanity sizing here I come.
a lot of my old 12s are too big & I am actually still wearing 14 lol with a belt& long M tops..
but designer clothing run small so i'm hoping to get into their versions of size 12 at this point.

I'll try to report after my shopping trip in the next two weeks I have somethimg coming up on june 2nd& need a good pair of jeans.
I actually have a great pair of CHLOE pants but they may still be tighter than I like in 2 weeks& are way too long & will need alteration...

thanks

Good for you. I'm 5'5.75" and when I got down to a fit 152 I still couldn't wear a 10 and at that wt I feel more of my wt is in my bottom half. Now at 225 I'm soft and fat all over and a 1x. Basically 20s on the bottom. I never thought I'd be over a 16 or 200.

PS - that was back in 1992, so perhaps sizes are bigger now. I have heard they have been doing that over the years.

I was still in 12s @ 153 too 5 yrs ago but hoping Vanity sizing will put me in a 10. Wishful thinking!

How can you not get depressed trying on all those pants?

I had a horrible experience at the store looking for new pants. It is like the pants I have fit my shape (they are all thrift store and really old) but when I try on new modern clothes that say they are the same size, they don't even fit right at all. I tried on 6 dfferent pair of pants that should have been my size before gave up and went up the the next size and they still didn't have the right shape. either the pants legs tapered much too tightly, or are too long, or the waist wasn't tight enough so I had a pouch in the front or back. It seems that clothes are make for skinny little board stick people, not people with curves and bumps. I'd have to change my body shape to wear these new clothes and I don't think dieting will make my butt actually go away. so what is the benefit of being a "smaller" size if you still can't fit the clothes?
the bigger sizes fit over my bottom, but then they look like clown clothes cause they are too baggie.
I'm short, only 5'1" and I weigh about 123 lb, but my butt keeps me from having nice jeans. I like gauchos, but not all the time

what to do. Any suggestions or encouragement.
(PS. I'm thinking of trying a M/E fast and strict induction to see if I can get rid of my butt, but it is my family heirloom)

Keep doing what works, maybe butt exercises?
Also alterations of the jeans/pants you like.Yeah it's a pain in the butt you'll feel comfortable wearing them.
I'm going to do that at some point too, my figure isn't a standard stick figure either...

BTW I tried on sz 10 levi stretch jeans today and they fit!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wasn't brave to go exploring further but will soon!!!!!

Hi,
I am afraid to try on pants with waist bands yet. I have for several years now worn elastic waist ones. I will get brave soon and try on some with waist bands and no elastic.

i found that out too - i've been shopping more in the last year for clothes than I have in the last 10 years, so I've found that styles have really changed. I have huge butt, thighs but smaller waist - so many of the new styles don't fit at all. Just keep trying, i'm finding that stores like JCpenney and Kohls that are not as trendy seem to fit me better (i'm 40 and like the styles better) they are fashionable but not quite so faddish if that makes sense? keep looking - you'll find something
