Talked my DF into going to Church with me tomorrow!!
We've been going on and off (maybe 5x/year) to my DF's church (he is born and raised Lutheran), but neither of us have been getting much of anything spiritally from it....which is why we haven't gone much.
I have soooo missed the energy of the Assembly of God Churches that I'm used to and have finally talked him into attending one with me tomorrow. I told him that with all of the sit....kneel.....stand and reading along that I don't feel that I have the opportunity to really worship or praise the way that I need to. I told him that I don't feel Gods presence in my life and that I need to make a return to the religion that feels like home to me. I invited him, but told him if he's uncomfortable (he thinks that we handle snakes and stuff...lol) he doesn't have to come - that this is for me and my daughter. I didn't expect him to go because he is very structured in what he believed is the right and wrong way to "humble himself to the Lord" (his words). BUT I almost peed my pants as he told me he would give it a try!! He said that he would go for a month (because he knows he won't be completly comfortable with it at first, it might takes a few times and asked me to understand that). He also said that he would never convert from his Lutheran religion, but I don't care. I believe that God gave me the words to convince him to come with me. We truly need this soooo bad and I'm so excited!

Great news!!
My dh was raised Lutheran also, and I attended a while with him even though I was raised Catholic. Both services were very similar. I consider myself to be a "Christian" regardless of any denomination. Recently we started attending a Methodist church, since we know the pastor and agree with a lot of his views. I have to tell you, having a service where the order/routine is not exactly the same every week is wonderful! There are actually Bibles in the pews! The pastor encourages members to read their Bibles at home!! They have bell choirs. Just thought I'd throw that out in case someone is looking for a change. Oh, and one more minor thing. . . padded pews.

My DH and I go to a Calvery Chapel. They are all over the country. Depending on what you're looking for this might be a new upbeat place to go. I was raised Methodist and it was very stuffy. I like CC because it's great music (guitars, drums, electric guitars, and more) and its upbeat and very uplifting.

When I was church-seeking I got lots of recommendations to try Calvary Chapel. But my dh refused to try anything "non-denominational," since the one Rock Church nearest us was founded by an ex-drug addict. I would never have got him to even go Methodist if we didn't already know the pastor.Calvary Chapel is a good choice, I think. ![]() |
