Having a hard time letting go of my too big clothes this time.

About three years ago I lost 50 pounds, but before reaching goal I put all the weight back on over the next year. When I lost weight the first time I was only too happy to get rid of my clothes that were too big. Now here I am doing great again (down 23 pounds since March) and feel totally in control again and excited to see the scale going back down again. Yet this time I am afraid of getting rid of my jeans that are getting too big. Part of me thinks "what if I fail again?". On the other hand I tell myself I have to have faith in me and know I can do this so I should get rid of the clothes. I have held on to all my clothes that I bought when I lost weight the first time and it's been fun to get back into jeans that I haven't been able to wear for a couple of years.

I guess I just feel bad for second guessing myself, but then again I do have a track record for losing and gaining. What did you all do for those who have regained and lost again?

I still have all of my fat clothes from two years ago. I'm terrified of putting back on the weight and haveing to spend $$$ to buy new suits for a fat again me. So far, I have managed to only relapse about 20 pounds max. I'll probably keep them forever, but will continue to move them deeper and deeper into the attic.

I'm in the same spot. I've lost enough that quite a few of my outfits simply dont fit. My suit jackets are too big and not sure what to do. I think I might get them tailored. or put them away in a box and tape it up and give them to my parents to put in the basement. that way, they'll be away from me but i can get to them if i ever really need them.

I definately get rid of all of the clothes that are too big on me, otherwise it is too easy to put the pounds on and not notice because my clothes aren't tight. Now that I have clothes that fit me it helps me maintain, I tell myself that I won't buy a bigger size, so I either have to get used to the fact that they are tight and uncomfortable if I gain weight, or do something about it. That motivated me to do something about it. The scale is just a number and sometimes I can put on 20 lbs and not tell a difference in the mirror, but if my clothes are tight than I know.

I have lost weight on Atkins twice. The first time I got rid of the clothes, and I am doing the same thing this time. I refuse to hang on to anything that doesn't fit anymore. It's too easy to slide back into a larger size when it's readily available and hanging in my closet.

It does suck if you put weight back on and have to buy new clothes, but that also helps me stay on track.

Do whatever you are comfortable with.

There's no way I'm going back to those bigger clothes. I gave them all to Goodwill, and I'll continue to donate them as I get smaller. I'm just not ever going back to that fat place.

I had a hard time getting rid of my big clothes but finally just grabbed some boxes and boxed them up and drove to the women's center drop-off point. Some of them were real favorites but I haven't missed them I have fewer clothes now but they all look good. Also, there are women at the center who want to get jobs but don't have any clothes and this makes me feel good to help them.
I say, "Get rid of them." It will make you accountable.

I haven't regained. But I kept one size 22 skirt to remind myself of what I ain't goin back to. The rest of the clothes were given away. I have nothing larger than an 8 in my closet.

The instant something is too big on me it goes in the trunk of the car and Dan drops it off at the goodwill.

I can't afford to buy all new bigger clothes again. I have tons of smaller clothes tho.

I get rid of them immediately. Otherwise, it's too easy to say " well if I do pack some weight back on...then I'll still have clothes to wear". UH UH. It works much better for me to know I have NO fat clothes to wear...so I really need to think twice before gaining any weight back. It's not worth having to shell out the money for new fat clothes. Works for me

I kept one suit from when I was at my heaviest just as a reminder of where I started from but other than that, everything has gone. I do not think about "what if I fail" because that is the surest way to fail.

As they say at NASA, failure is not an option.

And the way I look at it, if I do fail I deserve to be punished by having to buy a whole new wardrobe... and that's not going to happen.

Give them away. If you think that you need them because you could fail, then you will fail. Start thinking on the positive and how much fun it's going to be getting new clothes.

Thanks everyone for all your good advice. I did give everything away last time I lost the weight and so I've decided to do that this time again. However this time I will hold on to one pair of jeans (I didn't do that last time) to remind myself on how far I have come; that should keep me in line. Thanks again for all your advice and now it's time to start packing up some "too big" clothes.

I did something similar. I kept one pair of jeans just to try on occasionally when I needed a feeling of accomplishment. Sometimes you feel you're stuck where you are and end up forgetting where you've been.

Guilty too.... I have pairs of pants that could be use as a tent and still keep them... I'll surely end up ditching all of them and keeping one as a reminder. At the same time, I plan on maybe having a baby next year so I'm thinking that some pants and shirts could be used as maternity clothes for around the house at least (I have too-big empire style shirts that would be perfect to carry a pregnant belly).

At on the other hand... I keep hoping to "do" something with the clothes that's too big... I've always been a clothes fanatic. I LOVE clothes, I have TONS of clothes... even from when I was heavier, I'd buy clothes every week... So it's tons of money down the drain almost... unless I become a seamstress and figure out how to make it smaller!?

Dana... I too struggled with dumping my clothes... Diana said to me..."get rid of them..... they are not your best friends!!"

So I did ... and for the first time in my life.... decided NEVER AGAIN was I going to gain the weight back and that I was going to get to goal and stay there..

Believe in your self..... and go for thin...
