When you dream does this happen to you?

Seems like I dream every single night.........usually I don't remember what I have dreamed but when I wake up I have this awful sick feeling like I have been kicked in the gut or someone close to me has died.

I used to enjoy my dreams but this past year it's all different and I do not like

Anyone else feel this way? or is it just me

some medications cause dreams or nightmares. Could it be that? Something changed recently? Hormones will also effect dreams.

I've had some weird dreams and several nightmares recently that I know are stress induced (Im not on any meds) We have some family issues that weigh heavy on my mind and the dreams are usually relating to how things turned out or events that could happen. I hate that they feel all too real and so sometimes I feel sick afterwards, sometimes remembering the dream but othertimes just remembering it was bad.

I have noticed when I have that sick feeling that my blood sugar is very low, so I'll go get a snack before going back to sleep.

Very interesting about the meds......I do take HRT and recently switched to Combipatch. I also take Melatonin to help me sleep.

I can relate to the stress induced dreams.............before my grandbaby was born I used to have very frequent dreams where I was taking care of her but just not doing a very good job of it

I have not idea about my blood sugar Thanks

How long have you been taking the Melatonin? I've known several people who complained of side effects like insomnia, but I also found this information interesting as well. I'm not trying to alarm you, and this may not be what's happening to you~ But it could actually explain the nightmarish dreams and the effect on your emotions

............................snip
In Europe, Melatonin has a completely different status in that it is considered a "neuro-hormone" and cannot be sold over the counter.
Several features that are specific to this neurohormone need to be taken into consideration. Whatever the species concerned, melatonin is secreted during the night; it is the "hormone of darkness."
Very little attention has been paid to the possible side effects of melatonin. Nightmares, hypotension, sleep disorders, abdominal pain, etcetera, have been reported.

OH MY, thanks for the link............anything called "hormone of darkness" does not appeal to me

I have been taking it for quite a while, it does seem to help me sleep better, but not worth the gut wrenching dreams for sure.

Wow... I did not make the connection. I take Melatonin to sleep too. Last night I dreamed that my DH was cheating on me and he was leaving me. I woke up feeling so sad. He is actually deployed right now so I'm sure the stress of him being gone doesn't help. But I have sad/bad dreams ALOT. I will have to read up on the Melatonin. Thank you Topazz for the info.

Interesting that Melatonin would cause nightmares. Who would have thought?

I take melatonin too, and have vivid dreams but nothing scary. I've heard that melatonin in higher doses can cause troubled dreams. Not sure tho. How much are you taking? I am taking 3-4 mg. I read somewhere that even .5 to 1g can help you sleep just as well as a higher dose.

I hope your dreams turn nice...

edited to add: melatonin is known to fight cancer and is an anti-aging and has anti-oxidant effects. There is lots of info out there and several books.

I normally take two Melatonin pills. I guess I could cut back to one and see what happens!

Tylenol PM really helps me sleep good but I don't like taking it because I drink alcohol.
