My sister in law Lisa died today...
A phone call came from the hospital this morning telling us to come right away, Lisa was there... In getting there they said that Lisa had been deteriorating throughout the night and this morning had a massive brain hemorrhage that stopped her breathing and she went into cardiac arrest. After resuscitating her and putting her on a ventilator, they did a catscan of her head and found it affected her brain stem, which controls basic body functions such as breathing, swallowing, heart rate, and blood pressure. The brain stem also controls consciousness. The neurologist said that she was brain dead. After getting family together through phone calls (her daughter is in Houston) we came to accept that there was no reason to prolong the inevitable and decided to have them remove all life support.
Her mother wasn't sure if she wanted to be there or could be there rather, and ended up leaving the room, so I stayed with Lisa until she finally slipped away from this earth. It was the hardest thing I have EVER had to do in my life. Lisa has been one of my closest friends and my "sister" for the last 20 years and to sit there while her body's reflexes were trying to take a breath was something I am not sure I can ever get over. Her mother came back in and we sat with her, saying our final goodbyes... Funeral is in about 5 days... when my neice gets here from Houston. I just wanted you all to know that I appreciated your support when I talked about the problems Lisa was going through and about her addiction. This is such a sad day... and my heart hurts. ![]() I love you all... cheri

Cheri,
My sincerest sympathies. I was unaware of this going on in your life. Not sure where you post regularly. Your SIL Lisa is resting from her ills now, you did her right and proper in your love and support. Think of the better days together over the years and get some comfort from that. Condolences to her family. -mack |

I'm so sorry for your loss. Praying for you and your family.
I'm a firm believer that when our loved ones are passing on, they do hear what you are telling them before they slip away. I'm sure she heard your goodbyes. |

How wonderful your sister-in-law was to have you all be strong enough to make that decision for her. That is a true test when you love someone enough to let her body go when the spirit is already gone. Bless you.

I am so terribly sorry to hear of your loss, I have not followed this story, so I am not for sure what the problem with Lisa was, however, My heart breaks for you and your family and I know you all made the right decision to let her be and not keep her hooked to those machines...
I pray God will send you his Comforter and will be with you thru the upcoming days ahead. |
