Holiday Depression Thread

I know many of us suffer from depression all year round but the 'holidays' are always the worst. No matter where you go, what's on t.v. or the radio you're always being told to get in the holiday spirit. You get to where you think everyone esle is having a better holiday and life than you are. It can really suck. So I thought maybe we could try and help others thru the holidays and the dreaded new year.

I can't even afford the xanax so I'm having to figure out how to handle this stress without medication.

I don't know of one near me. Thank you for the idea though. I really don't want to do meds. Ive tried many antidepressants before and never got relief. Now I am making adjustments in my life, learning to say NO to "needy" people, trying to get structure back into my day and working on simplifying my life. I am learning that I don't need much to be happy and I don't celebrate holidays..... I celebrate being able to get out of bed and take care of my family every day.

I hope you all are finding ways to reduce stress.

Im really trying hard to get through this holiday season! It has not been easy and to make it even more difficult I work at walmart where I see people spending huge amounts of money! This month is always the most depressing month for me to get through...Having more bills than paycheck

Dreamer I understand that feeling. I used to work for an independant airport and the airplane owners threw away more money in one day than I make in a year. It was very disheartening to endure that, especially when I was the one making out the invoices and taking the payments. I was struggling to keep my car from being repoed while they wined and dined and compared notes on their airplanes, collectible cars, fine cigars, exotic vacations, real estate ventures, etc.
I'm just a plain ole working girl with kids and pets and live paycheck to paycheck. This year those paychecks were few and far between because of mulitple lay-offs for myself and DH.
Hang in there.... don't let it get to you

We have had layoffs and a major surgery in our family this year. We have spent every nickle to repay hospital debts and I have no idea how I will buy presents or even pay my mortgae. It is horrifying and so stressful. I hurt all over.

I am so depressed this year. We are always short on money, but this year, we managed to get behind on all of our bills. I owe hundreds of dollars to the phone, the utilities, credit cards, etc. that I just don't have. And my boyfriend might be going to jail on January 3 if we can't come up with the money for a lawyer. If he does, I'll have to sell everything and move back home with my parents. All the "holiday cheer" that is forced down our throats seems like such a cruel joke! All I want for Christmas is some dang stability!

WOW! This is a depressing thread. Here are a few suggestions I hope will help, call your local salvation army they have several programs for famillies in need this time of year, from adopt a family to gifts for children and even Christmas dinner boxes, call your local VFW and ask about Toys for Tots, read your local paper there are several charitable organizations willing to help families in need this time of year.

And please don't scalp me but you also need to remember how blessed you are that you have the things that you do. Think of the thousands of peope up rooted by the hurricane, and think of all of the families who have lost loved ones in the War onTerror, and the hundreds of thousands who lost their entire family in the Tsunami and the earthquake.

I will keep you all in my prayers and hope that your holiday will be much more than you hoped it would be.
