Got the phone call I've been expecting

My sister got sick about 3 years ago, last 18 months in a nursing home. We moved her to Tx to be near me in April. Mom moved down just last week. Anyway my sister has been crying almost non stop since she's been here. And before moving here I think. Today they called and said her room mates family wants something done. I'm surprised they havent said something earlier! It's not quiet sobbing but pretty loud wailing most of the time. They tell us it is caused because of her illness. The doctor doesn't seem to be able to help it much. So I asked if he could consult with a shrink and they say he is a shrink. I don't want her totally drugged the entire time and they won't do that anyway. I asked them to have the doctor to call me but I have doubts that he will.

She;s not in pain I actually think it's just a part of her brain the has deteiorated.

My Mother is 95 and in a nursing home and we would never dare move her anywhere because it would so disrupt her life. I send you my prayers, positive thoughts for you in this time.

Thanks. We moved my sister down here because I'm her only sibling and Mom is 90 and we thought she could get better care here in a much bigger city with more doctors. I think she had been crying a lot in Ia too. Mom is still sort of on her own in a retirement apartment complex not far from here. Sis wanted to come even if she knew she couldn't be helped. I think she wanted to move because she hated to have people see her so totally helpless compared to so independent like she always was. Too late to try to move her back now. You do what you think it right but sometimes it isn't.

Blessings on you and your family! Having been a nursing home nurse for over 20 years, I have encountered what is called "labile crying" It is part of the brain syndrome she is suffering. It was explained to me that it doesn't mean that the person crying is unhappy, it is uncontrollable. We only encounterd it twice that I can think of, and the patients were given private rooms, medicaction really wasn't seen as warranted. Prayers go along with this reply..

I stopped at the nursing home and all was quite so I didn't see my sister - didnt' want her to start up again. I talked to the head nurse and the shrink want's to put her in a psychicatric hospital for awhile, stop all her meds and start adding them back. Monday I'm seeing her neurologist and trying to get him involved.

Central Nervous System Vasculitis. It's when you get a virus and in her case started attacking her blood system leading into the brain. It's sort of like she's had a stroke. One of those things they don't know much about.

Wanted to update you!

We saw her neurologist on Monday and he gave us a prescription to help with her crying, evidently some doctor came across this by accident. Robitussin DM and quinine! We went to see her today and both her roommate and the nurse said she hasn't been crying since Tues!
