and seeing the highways packed as people are trying to evacuate under orders..why on earth don't they open up BOTH sides of the freeways so more people can get out????

If you're in NO or anywhere nearby and reading this - PLEASE get thyself (and thy loved ones) to safety - don't even THINK about trying to "ride it out" - possessions can be replaced but your own life cannot.

I'm hoping this thing will not be as bad as they are predicting but right now it looks pretty grim.

They did that yesterday at 4:00. Everyone is headed here to Baton Rouge - so it's a mess around town. Shouldn't be too bad here in Baton Rouge - although my house is only about 45 miles from the N. O. airport - which is predicted to be under water. All the stations here are broadcasting messages from evacuated parishes - the message is "when the storm is over, we'll be out picking up and identifying the dead bodies". Yikes people - if that's not a sign to get out than I don't know what is!

Oh! they DID do that? the footage on CNN shows no traffic on what would be the sides coming into NO..but if they have, thank goodness.

It's all so sobering, isn't it?
