Sorry, Moke. I just 'go raccoon' from time to time.

Yep, restful weekend here. I took the day off yesterday and just did a little shopping and cleaning around the house. Now it's Monday again.... so soon. I'm going to start running again this week so I'm trying to get my eating right as well.

What's on everyone's agenda for this week?

Hey Moke,

I have a friend who said that her doc told her to stop drinking coffee and she says it worked. Ever since I have known her she had the dark circles and I noticed they were gone the last time I saw her. Hmmmm

Well Induction Week 2 is here and I'm pumped! Flax muffins are in the oven and I'm getting ready to do my weight training. I think I'm going to enjoy my home gym a lot.

Say hello to the newest "member" of my family:

I'm getting my elliptical next and then I'm set. Off to workout!

I sleep great, I just have always had them.

I'm not wearing makeup this summer, so I don't want to cover them up, I want to find out how I can get rid of them.

Just found this at webmd:

How Can I Get Rid of Dark Circles Under My Eyes?
And, why are they there?

How can I get rid of these dark circles under my eyes?

Answer:

Dark rings around the eyes are a common problem. Did you know that the eyelid skin is the THINNEST skin found anywhere in the body? Consequently, the eyelid skin is relatively transparent. The darkness relates to circulating blood in the soft tissues beneath the skin. Some people believe it is actually pigment (melanin), however there has never been any biopsy proof for this claim. Chronic irritation, illness, poor nutrition, fatigue and many other conditions can accentuate these rings. Conversely, adequate rest, good nutrition, and overall good health tends to make the circles less noticeable. See your doctor if any of these problems sound familiar.

On particularly difficult days consider use of hypoallergenic occlusive makeup.

Causes

Dark circles are often caused due to sleeplessness or disturbed sleep. If you find yourself developing dark circles, you need to first catch up on your sleep. Genetics too could predispose you to developing dark circles.

Other factors causing dark under-eye circles include:

Drinking an excess of beverages that contain caffeine.
Smoking
Allergies
Thyroid problems
A lack of iron in your body during menstruation. This often contributes to dark circles, which is why some women have a tendency to develop dark circles during their period.
Remedies

First of all, try and figure out the reason you have developed dark circles. Have you always had them? Are they a recent occurrence? Does your mother have dark circles under the eyes as well? Once you can pinpoint the cause for dark circles, it would be much easier for you to get rid of them.

1. Are you allergic to something? If yes, work on avoiding the allergens.

2. Apply Vitamin E to the area under your eye. You could open up a Vitamin E capsule, and apply a little oil. Swallow the rest of the oil. This not only helps you get rid of dark circles, but also reduces puffiness around the eyes. In addition, regular application of Vitamin E delays the onset of wrinkles.

3. Apply creams that contain Vitamin C.

4. Inverted asana postures work wonders for dark circles. Try doing the sarvangasana everyday. Often dark circles and under-eye puffiness is caused due to sinusitis. Jal Neti is extremely beneficial in such cases, as it internally cleanses your entire facial region, rejuvenating it. Do the Jal Neti at least five times a week to clean out your entire nasal passage.

5. Swallow a capsule of cod liver oil everyday. It strengthens eyes.

6. Take a teaspoon of tomato juice, a few drops of lemon juice, a pinch of turmeric powder and a little flour, enough to make a paste. Apply this paste to the under-eye area, and wash off after fifteen minutes.

7. Drink at least ten glasses of water everyday. There is no stressing this enough. If you do not drink at least eight glasses of water everyday, you are not providing your body with as much water as it requires for flushing out toxins. Do not wait until you are thirsty before drinking up. By the time your body cries ‘I’m thirsty!’, you are already severely dehydrated.

8. Avoid stepping out in the sun, especially between noon to four, when the sun is at its strongest. Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes, and the delicate skin around it, from the harmful effects of UV radiation.

9. Apply a cold, used tea bag to your eyes. You could also applied used, cold, herbal tea leaves to your eyes, to sooth them.

10. Apply a concealer to the area under your eyes, to hide dark circles. Use a colour that is every so slightly lighter than the shade of your skin. Apply the concealer gently; do not stretch or pull the skin from this delicate area.

11. Lie down, close your eyes and apply cucumber or potato slices to your lids. Leave on for ten minutes and remove. Wash the area with cold water. This soothes tired eyes instantly, and helps boost blood circulation in the under-eye area.

12. Try out dark circle remover creams available in the market. Make sure they are of a recognized brand before applying them to your face

That's great info Moke! Thanks! Apparently TOM has more side effects that we imagined

Workout done and I threw in some Pilates for good measure too. My abs are on FIRE! I'm going to do an aspirin facial later and a full pedicure

I'm sweaty and stinky now so it's shower time!

Nancy, I love the policeman pic!

Good morning everyone!

I'm on a mission to find Fall boots.

I saw some like these at Target (some of you saw my thread about it on the PlayGround):
These aren't the actual boots from Target, but they're very similiar...

...and I bought them this morning, and brought them home, and took some digital pictures wearing them...and realized, they just don't look good on me. They have a fur band at the top, PLUS they're lined with some kind of woolly material and very quilted and thick and padded, and it makes my already-chunky calves look even chunkier. Soooo, I'm going to return them today..
They ARE really comfy though. Just really ugly on me.

I saw these on the Nordstrom website, and I think these might be better...

The material is a lot thinner and there's no thick furry lining, so I'm hoping they will look good. They seem to have a more sleek shape, too. I might go try them on today. But that means I would have to go to the mall, which I hate. I don't know why, but malls give me a panicky feeling. I hate going alone. Maybe because they're so huge, and I feel so lost.
They're on sale until the end of this month, then they go up $50 more in price. So if I want to get them, it has to be this week...

Beeshoney- Those kids are GORGEOUS! The home gym looks great too!

Junk- How was the shopping, did you find anything cool?

Do any of you ever take pictures of yourself wearing outfits, to determine how they REALLY look? Or is it just me?

I first heard of that in the movie "Clueless" (with Alicia Silverstone)

That scene where she's trying on outfits for a date and her friend is taking Polaroids of her "...because I *NEVER* trust the mirror..."

I find for me, that's so true. I'll look in a mirror and think my clothes look okay, but when I see a picture of myself, it can be a whole different story.

Niki- What kind of Pilates do you do??

I used to have the Windsor Pilates, but I got too impatient with it, and sold the DVD's at a garage sale. I hated the way the lady spent like 5 minutes telling you how to go into position for each exercise. I mean when you've done the DVD 50 times, you don't need that instruction each time. The whole workout dvd would take 45 minutes, but I would estimate I only spent 20-30 minutes actually exercising. The rest of the time was spent just listening to her instructions. LOL.

It was effective, but I want something more time-efficient.

I wish I could find a Pilates DVD that would just....cut to the chase, y'know??

I LOVE my 8-minute Abs dvd...that man doesn't waste ANY time...but I think I'm outgrowing it, and ready for something more challenging. I guess I could just do it twice in a row...then it would be 16-Minute Abs. Oh, I crack myself up.

KP - First things first...you do NOT look like a goof! You are gorgeous so stop that talk!

I prefer the Nordstroms boots too - less chance of giving you chunky calves and less "wintery"

I take pics of my self in EVERY new outfit I buy! My digital camera has been a great help to me and I agree that the mirror is less than truthful sometimes

I have a DVR so I record Pilates from FitTv. The three I use more often are Sharon Mann, Core Max with Cathe Friedrich and the Caribbean Workout. That gives me some variety and I don't feel like I'm doing the same thing every day. When I don't have anything recored I suffer through the Winsor Pilates too. It's a very effective workout but she does speak excessively!! Pilates is great for the abs and I don't do any other kind of ab workout because I hate crunches and stuff!

Ya know.. I have NEVER taken a pic of me in an outfit. I am not sure I would like to actually, it would make me more self conscious as I HATE pics of myself.

Anyhow, K --- I LOVE the Nordstrom boots. I agree with what you said...I find chunky thick wooly boots to make my short, voluptious calfs look bigger.

I think the longer sleeker ones are a better fit!

KP, ditto what Niki said, you do NOT look like a goof. I too prefer the 2nd boots.

Do not stop posting cause you got a whole bunch in "in a row".

I never too a pic of myself in a new outfit, but it is a good idea.

My lips are falling off my face. They are chapped worse than ever.

Moke, I've been trying to get rid of the circles for years now. I have allergies so I guess there's no hope for me. That being said, I use Olay Regenerist Eye Serum. That has worked the best so far to help fade them a bit. (I've tried all kinds of things in the past.) It comes in a teeny tiny tube but you don't use much under each eye. FWIW.

I think I read or saw that Oprah has this problem, too. Not sure what she does for it.

Mootze, your avatar is slowly curing me of my Robbie obsession.

Speaking of celebs, this is going to sound bizarr-o, but I think Josh Hartnett is staying about 6 feet from my flat. They're filming a movie here and I got a list today with everyone's names on it. Ah, maybe it's some other Josh Hartnett connected to the film industry. This one's probably old, hairy and wears a tool belt. Such is my life.

Terri, love the second pair of boots! Those would look fantastic with a long (or short) skirt. Love them! I had a little luck shopping. I found two sweaters (one basic black and one crocheted-over-a-tank) and a great, soft wrap shirt that will look good over a lacy camisole with jeans. Plus a pair of pants for DH. Always got to get a little something-something to sweeten the deal and take the sting out.

As far as taking pics.... I'm fragilised enough by the mirror. I don't need a hard copy.

I started back running today and it felt fab. I'm glad I took a break from it but it's nice to get back as well. Plus, I made the crack slaw and it was very good.

What else....? Got to get a hair cut on Thursday. I'm starting to look like a member of the Hair Bear Bunch. So that's life as I know it today.

Hope you guys are having a good Monday.

Just the thought of my pics from the late 80s sends a wave of nausea through me.

But yeah, that's better. I'm immune to charms of the Hoffinator.
