Phenomenal Women! ~ July 18- July 24 ~

Morning Phenoms! It's a brand new day! This poem was on my mind this morning. I read it and drew strength and resolve from it. The rock, the river, the tree... forces of life. Just as women are forces of life. Money doesn't make the world go round. WOMEN do!

Good morning!

On The Pulse Of Morning(excerpt)
by Maya Angelou
American Poet

Delivered January 19, 1993
at the Inauguration of President Clinton

Here, root yourselves beside me.
I am the tree planted by the river,
Which will not be moved.
I, the rock, I the river, I the tree
I am yours--your passages have been paid.
Lift up your faces, you have a piercing need
For this bright morning dawning for you.
History, despite its wrenching pain,
Cannot be unlived, and if faced with courage,
Need not be lived again.
Lift up your eyes upon
The day breaking for you.
Give birth again
To the dream.
Women, children, men,
Take it into the palms of your hands.
Mold it into the shape of your most
Private need. Sculpt it into
The image of your most public self.
Lift up your hearts.
Each new hour holds new chances
For new beginnings.
Do not be wedded forever
To fear, yoked eternally
To brutishness.
The horizon leans forward,
Offering you space to place new steps of change.
Here on the pulse of this new day
You may have the grace to look up and out
And into your sister's eyes,
Into your brother's face, your country
And say simply
Very simply
With hope
Good morning.

Goood Morning Moke and all who follow!! I that poem and anything Maya Angelou

I have a busy day ahead of me today but I am sooo tired. DH and I spent the weekend painting our formal living room and I'm pooped. I think it looks good though.

Induction Day One here again I'm going to do a M/E fast until Friday and add back veggies on the weekend. If only I can make it through these first few days...Lord please help me .

I am going to start my laundry, do my workout and do some work stuff. I'll check in again later

Good morning everyone

I'm getting some caffeine in me, then I'm going to work out.

Did y'all see Diva's Dashboard Dining post??

I have this urge now to bake something in our vehicle. Just for fun.

It's not hot enough though.

OOh, I remember that inauguration and her reading that poem... Great choice!
It is a sweaty, sweaty day here, too, but I have my new "China Blush" manicure and pedicure, and the color reminds me for all the world of sea anemone. Love it.

What is on everyone's list today?

Like Jenny, I am enjoying ICED coffee this morning

K,

It just clicked that you live in Chicago so what I'd LOVE to know is if you can get all the Phenoms tickets to a taping of Oprah and we can all converge on you for a Phenoms convention!! On a day when Maya was guest!!! How about it? Lin

Ooooh, how fun would that be??? But I think we'd all have a better chance of winning the lotto...it's difficult to get ANY tickets to her show, much less a SPECIFIC show. *sigh*

In fact...from her website...they're not taking anymore audience members for the rest of this summer:

Morning Phenoms!

Thanks for the poem Moke, very insightful!

It's a hot and sweaty day here in Ontario. Trying to stay to cool.

Lin knows that I am a receptionist at a radio station but sharing with the rest.

Soooo. We just got a new textbook series in my department from Holt and an expert came in one day and trained us all in the on-line resources. Something like that? Wow!

Gosh, I didn't even know she taped in the summer but I was thinking about the late fall--you know when the weather is a bit more bearable.

Do you really not work? That is soo cool. Beautiful AND lucky! Unfair!

Lin, tell us about your shop!

Jenny, what kind of training?

Nancy, what kind of music? Rock 'n' roll? I always had you pegged for a rock chick!

Teri, be honest, you are a domestic goddess.

I'm a contract researcher (on issues of domestic violence, disability, young people, women). I teach a part-time in sociology and social work at a small college, where I'm also the resident tutor (meaning they give me a cool apartment inside the college). Also, an eternal student... I'm hopefully just one year away from getting my PhD.

I'll start calling in this fall then. But if I get tickets y'all better come!!

Nope, I don't work (not outside the home, anyway.. ) It was really the best thing for DH and I. He has odd, irregular schedules that change every month, and this way we can see each other no matter WHAT schedule he gets.

And I am able to clean/run errands while he is at work, so that when he does get home we can just relax and do fun things together.

When I used to work too, sometimes we'd go a long time without seeing each other if our schedules didn't match up. And the times our schedules DID match up, we'd spend our days off doing laundry and cleaning and errands, and just feeling frazzled. It sucked.

Life is so much more peaceful and relaxing now, for BOTH of us.

Junk, we have three stations here. Two fm - one is hot a/c known in the biz (which means adult contemporary - aka top 40) and lite favs and one am country/talk radio.

I **heart** white kitty!

I'll let Lin tell you about her shop but I have had the experience of visiting it and it is TONS OF FUN when Lin feeds you wine and then let's you play dress up, that's all I will say!

I love dress up!! Oh, Auntie Lin.......

Jenny, I'm sitting in a computer training class right this minute learning NVivo. It's actually pretty good. As far as these things go, you know.

KP, I can totally understand what you mean. My job is flexible and I don't work nearly full-time hours. Two people working full time - that can be hard on a relationship. DH keeps saying he'll quit when I get my dream job but I doubt it. I'm not sure how I'd feel about that, but I can certainly see what you mean about having time to do things together without having to run errands, do household jobs, etc.

I'm in the university IT training suites. I just know they're sitting in an office somewhere, watching me surf LCF instead of following along.

Hi all! My but we're already chatty this morning!

I work for a Software Development Company- we write workforce management software - Call Center Web, Field Service manager, Return and Repair/warranty manager, etc. Most of our contracts come from manufacturing companies. I run the ship. As the Office Administrator, I answer the phones, run AP/AR/Payroll, manage the office, maintain the filing, create and implement Admin policies.

My boss is on vaca till August 4th. I want to really use this time to get my desk in shape and get some process flow set up. I hit the ground running and try to hit everything on my mental to do list. I've GOT to come up with a process and a schedule that I can stick to and work with.

Well, enough ranting, Im off to do a conglomeration of thigns that I hope will accomplish something!
