I asked my DH for a divorce

I have never been so scared in my whole life. Of the unknown. For my kids. I can not survive with out him.
I never thought that my life would end up here: no skills, no means to support my kids, nothing.
I just want to die.

Wow. I'm so sorry for all the pain you are feeling. There's nothing I could say that would make you feel better right now. You will get through it, you will. Gather your support network, family and friends, and tell them what you need. There are also government services that can help you. Many women have had the same experience as you, get their advice.

You WILL get through this. When I was struggling with divorce 5 years ago, some unknown person said to me: "There IS life after divorce"

Not a good place to be but also not necessarily where you're going to 'end up'. It's just a temporary place and you'll find the strength to change it, I know.

My heart really goes out to you. If you are not in a dangerous or volatile situation could you stay in the same house (maybe have him in another room?) and get a job and get on your feet a bit before you go it all alone?

How old are your kids? How are they handling this? Have you started any counseling for you and your husband or just yourself and your kids to get throught this?

My heart goes out to you. This is such a scary time, but you will make it. It will be tough for a while. Do you have a support system?

I'm so sorry. I know what a terrifying thing this can be. Been there, done that!
Don't give in to the fear. It can also be a very exciting time.
There is a quote, it's in Latin and I don't remember the latin phrase but translated into Enlish it's roughly "If I can't find a way, I will make one." Be strong!

My many prayers are with you and your kids. I'm sorry to hear that things are the way they are! You can and will succeed. Take each day, one step at a time. I'm not sure what your beliefs are, but I know the LORD is a healer and he can turn what you are going through around for the better! I'm a living witness that he can mend your broken heart and give you HOPE for tomorrow. Trust him!

This is a time of enormous change and stress in your life, Lunchlady. I hope all works out well for you and your kids. I have never been through such a situation myself, but take the good advice of the other people who have posted on this thread. All I know is that as human beings, we are capable of surviving the most troubling times, and coming out even better on the other end. Right now you are at the low point and you don't know what to do. Talk to us here on the board if you need to vent. We're here for you!
