Phenomenal Women ~ June 6-11

New thread!

Today is my pamper day. Around 7 I'll hop in the shower for a long hot one, use my scrub, wash and condition my hair, and then lotion up with shea butter and try to moisturize my feet, they look so dry!

What's up with the rest of you ladies?

Off to do a half-pedicure (minus the polishing) and to start on my manicure while watching the race today.

Hot and humid here today. My DS17 put his A/C in his room. I prefer to sit under a ceiling fan running full blast. My other son, 21, has two softball games this afternoon. I hope he remembers to get some Gatorade on the way there.

I hope it's ok if I jump back in....

Moke, we must be on the same 'pamper-schedule'. I bought a great gift basket (from me, to me) with soap, shower gel, exfoliating scrub, a candle, body butter and body milk in it - and I used every single one of them last night. They smell so good.... like clean sheets, sort of, with a hint of nutmeg. Ok, that sounds weird but it's a really good, clean smell.

I need to get some kind of something that I can use as a foot bath. I have this foot soak stuff (white chocolate souffle scent) that I want to use. I'm running a few times a week and it's hard on the tootsies.

Morning Phenoms! Always welcome to jump back in Junk. It is one hot, humid, sticky day here. Did not get any housecleaning done yesterday, way to hot to move. However, flowers are all in and looking loving. Thank Goodness I work in air conditioning.

Hiya Junk, good to see ya! Drop in whenever you can, we always appreciate your positive attitude!

So, yesterday someone told me I was a Phenomenal Woman... and I laughed. Not because it was funny or because I was shy, but because we've been doing this challenge and this person knows nothing about the challenge. Thought it was a funny coincidence.

Lin, how are you doing? How long till you're on summer break ?

Morning Phenoms!

Dom, Is there more to the story--the one in which someone tells you that you are a phenomenal woman?
As for school, I am done with the teacher part as graduation was last Thursday night. I have things to do in my classroom, of course, and there is some on-line revision that wants my attention. HOWEVER, I need to focus on hearth and home right now.
It is really awful here--hot and humid and almost too buggy to be outdoors. I was outside earlier spraying the wretched thrips that were eating away at my sister Joyce. . . . I have a rose bush in the front garden for each of my 3 sisters and 3 brothers and "Joyce" is the only one suffering from thrips.
Anyway, I need to get BUSY. I'll check in a little later. Go out there and be PHENOMENAL! Lin

Kim,
Nancy and Paul are coming for a visit first weekend in August. Would you want to meet us in Charlestown at the races or at Prime Outlets? Think about it!

Everyone else is welcome, too!

Good Morning Phenoms!!!

It looks like everyone is having a great start this Monday morning.

So, what your saying Moke is that your "phenomenal" aura caught someone's attention and they had to let you know??? That'sa good thing

Welcome back JunkintheTrunk

The weather is a little overcast here, but we're still supposed to have a high of 84 I love the weather but, I think I'm catching my usual change of the seasons cold. I have the scratchy throat and a slight cough. So, I definitely need to nip that in the bud before it gets out of control. I don't like to be sick.

Nancy...going to look for the pm right now.

Congrats Moke! I really think we do give off a certain "vibe" about ourselves. I just wish my was not "frumpy mom"! Hopefully, being in here will help.

Question:

So in this "self help" book i'm reading the author talks about bragging to your girlfriends and how it is a positive thing.

So why is it that when we are in company of others we get free reign to b*tch, whine and moan and otherwise be negative, it is viewed as acceptable. And if something good happens, whether physical, emotional or material.....we are seen as braggarts, or even snobs.

THoughts?

Personally I'm damned jealous. I'm having a hard time dealing with jealous emotions lately, especially dealing with relationships. And it's hard for me to listen to people whine about their SO's when there are people with no SO to whine about.

To me there is a difference between you saying something sweet that Ian did for yu and someone else who just.won't.shut.up about it. KWIM? I think there is a fine line between 'I wanna share my happiness with you' and 'I want to lord my happiness over you'.

Finding that balance is difficult.

After reading that I just think it is sad that you are more likely to hear

"My boss totally passed me over for that promotion because he thinks I lack organizational skills."

than

"I got that promotion I was wanting because my boss said my organizational skills are some of the best he's seen."

The latter sentence would be way taken down to possibly just..."I got that promotion."

And I know those people who won't shut it....but I'm just talking about us general folk.

Ah. I see what you mean. Can't explain it. Maybe along the lines we were taught that it was rude to brag on yourself? IT was more demurre and feminine to downplay your good qualities and skills... something like that.

My dad once told me 'not everyone is as smart as you are. You shouldn't show off like that.' He HATED to be corrected, even in private, because he didn't like the thought that someone knew more than he did. Ever since, I have downplayed my intelligence to the point where I actually FEEL stupid.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I think it's our own insecurities that can only take so much of another woman praising herself for a job well done. I hate to admit it; and try not to be envious, such a bad character flaw I think. Do you think it also ties into the fact that a large majority of women can't take compliments very well either....and the few that can, are sometimes seen as being full of themselves. There is such a fine line to walk when you are happy with yourself and want others to know it.

I've noticed that with women this is engrained in them from an early age; where as with men/boys it's expected for them to brag and praise themselves. Ironically I think that's why women will take a man's compliment over another woman's any day

Hmmm. There's a big difference between a group of semi-friends as in workplace associates or soccer moms and just one-on-one. For instance, the workplace is so freakin' competitive, and if I said something in front of co-workers like, "Mr. Whozy loved the lesson I taught this morning," then everyone "sorta'" tenses up and starts filling up with esteem-related issues such as job performance evaluations, promotions, etc. It's dog-eat-dog.
If I said the same thing to one of my close friends ( and she thought I was bragging) she'd let the air out of my tires really quick saying something like, "Yeah, and that means a lot since he is the world's biggest ass-kisser." If she sensed I needed some stroking she'd say something encouraging.
But in talking about men and bragging, I will never forget a man at one of our parties bragging that he had moved up to a 38" waistline. Can you imagine a woman saying, "Hey, guess what! I no longer can wear a 16!" Just would not happen.

Good Morning Ladies!!!

I'm fighting a cold and I think the cold is winning

I took some thera-flu last night and that has to be the most nastiest tasting stuff that ever has been concocted It seemed with every sip, or should I say gulp it got even worse. Within minutes I was knocked out til this morning, I'm hoping it did something magical while I was sleeping.

Go to the Wallymart and get some Cold FX, 20 times stronger than ehcinesia (sp?).
