Revalation Via 'Clean Sweep'

Ever watch that show Clean Sweep where the group goes thru 2 messy rooms of someones house helps them clean it up, have a garage sale, then redos the rooms? One thing I've learned is not to hold onto things just cause they remind you of someone you love - esp if you've gotten it hidden away and haven't seen it for years. You don't always need 'things' to remember people by. So today I drag out 4 pots on the patio and like every year for the last many years wonder what I'm going to plant in them and where to put them. Then I realized I don't really like them! 2 are cheap pots we bought in Mexico when my folks retired down by the border. They are over 20 years old and i don't really like them any more and they don't mean anything anymore. The other 2 my sister picked out when she was down probably 10 years ago for some house plants for me. They're nice but no longer have meaning for me! And I know that my sister and Mom don't remember them. Like I said, every year I stare at them and wonder what to plant in the dam things and where to put them! Right now they're going out by the dumpster for who ever else might want them. If they stay there too long they'll be in the dumpster!

I LOVE that show! I have cried watching them go through all their things and do their best to move on and up. The british host guy should have a phd in psychology - he is SO GOOD with those people.

I think he's Australian. Or at least that's what he sounds like from the accent.

ETA: Found this on the TLC website:

"Peter lives in Los Angeles — a long way from the small country town outside Melbourne, Australia where he grew up."

Within a few hours 3 pots were gone and only the one that had been broken and mended a few times was gone. I'm sure the neighbor or her daughter took them. They go garage saling everyweek even tho she swears she'll never have another sale herself! It doesn't matter to me, I'm rid of them!

Yay for you and your pots! I am trying to plan a garage sale in a few weeks. It's a lot of work! But I am getting rid of the last of my fat clothes and I will be happy to make a few $$$ off them for the wedding.

That show has inspired me!

I cleaned out an UNBELIEVABLE amount of stuff this spring - its actually a little sick how much stuff i have packed away that I don't need.

So - the clothes - My friend's daughter is in college, she took all of the clothes - so many trash bags full that she could barely fit them in her car - she's going to let her college friends go through them and bring the rest to Goodwill.

The "stuff". I told all of my friends that they have 3 weeks to go through the basement to take whatever they want, the rest is going in the trash. Its been kind of fun actually.

Good show, I really needed it!

It gets easier as you begin getting rid of things.... one thing at a time. It's almost a compulsion for me now! Don't put it down for too long or it will end up in the trash at my house!

Well, I went at it again last night - with the clothes. I have to be sick in the head! It is truly amazing how much stuff I have.

It is great the clothes that I forgot I bought, because they are so crammed in I can't see them.

I would pick something up, say - well, I haven't worn it in years, but maybe I'll want to some day....I HAD to tell myself that one day of wearing it isn't worth the room it takes up in my closet! I thought of Elaine - it has to be "closet worthy".

Then, there are the clothes I keep in case I ever get skinny again, the clothes I keep in case I ever get fat again, somebody help me!

I'm really working on it - the show helps me!

One step at a time! The thought of getting rid of things you don't need has been planted (no pun intended:-) ). Your eye will see things in a different light and you will succeed at ridding yourself of those burdens.

Take pictures of the stuff you like to look at but never use. That way you can look at it whenever you want but it won't be cluttering up your life.

My dh and I were going thru our (temporary) closet - we are remodelling our bedroom - just the other day. I decided to throw away a mirrored vanity tray and a couple of cut glass dishes that were sitting on it (covered with about an inch of dust!) DH saw it and asked me what I was doing with "that bag of stuff". I told him I was throwing it away. He said "But I gave you that tray!"..... it ALMOST made me wish I hadn't thrown it in the trash! But I stuck to my guns and told him that the style it was wouldn't fit in with our new decor! (I guess that I really ended up losing anyway because my DD saw it and he gave it to HER!! LOL!)
