Thanks for your kind words.. And we were perfect at breakfast!!! Then for me it was a downhill slope with bread at lunch and a wrap at dinner. But back on track tomorrow.

I know that Cindy and Sandy and Buffy would all get along so well with Judy. And I'm sure Debby, Mary Kay, Debbie and Sharon would , too. The four ladies I have met all have the same outgoing personalities.

My DH always excuses us - if you are "out of your home county" you are free to eat as you wish.

I'm so glad you guys had a good time! I already know I'd love Judy!! I wish we could all meet up some time . That would be so fun!!

I'm up for my monthly average. Ugh!! I made good choices today though compared to the choices I've been making lately. I'm really struggling to get back on the straight and narrow for any length of time.

We haven't gotten a whole lot of snow yet but it's sooooo cold and windy. Who knows what we'll wake up to in the morning. We don't have to go out tomorrow at all so we'll see in the morning.

Sounds like so much fun! (except for the hour 6:30 am)! I'm looking forward to seeing that pic too!
My wt. has been sticking around 129-132... Been trying to figure out why these few lbs have crept on... whether its the hypothyroid, regularity issues, exercise, or what. I've been working through & re-jigging my plan, trying different adjustments. Seem to be making progress this week... I feel better at 126, so that's my goal.
Hang in there Sharon! The every ounce in the right direction is progress!

WOE: Very High Veg Intake, High fat, No grains
I am doing another WOE plan but its a lowfat plan and i just dont do lowfat lol I feel so satiated eating alot of fat. I lowcarb but dont count things like veggies (unless starchy), coconut, nuts and seeds. I also subtract fiber from my carbs. I am eating fruit and beans now again, but only eating steelcut oats for my grains. Also of course, starchy vegs. I am finding my fat desire is just, well lessssss. I have been losing very slowly (I have alot of issues; PCOS, unresolved thryoid system issues, probably high cortisol/fatigued adrenals etc). eating lowfat or high fat doesnt make any diff. but I LIKE high fat better lol. I love to eat and to cook. so something sustainable is important to me. and healthwise too....high fat is just healthier.
so is the general consensus i should eat less carbs and go back to high fat to lose wgt, even tho i wasnt rly losing more than .5-1lb a week? at 186lb (now) and 5-4 i'd say i should be losing a hella lot faster!
or is there anything else to do? HELP

Helene!
Yeah, I also have the same issues with thyroid & adrenals. I got to my goal doing 1/2 lb a week... took forever. But with the thyroid issue, I think its the only way. Our metabolisms are compromised. I prefer low-carb & rotate my calories up & down, so as not to lose more metabolism or stall. Fat or low-fat doesn't seem to matter to me either. Beans are a bit too starchy for me... Hope that helps.
The ladies here are mostly pro's with the Eat Fat Get Thin method & great at coming up with recipes to keep it interesting.

Hi!

I already know I love Judy too!
Wish we could meet - though NOT at 6:30am!!

Debby - awesome pic!!!

Helene - with higher fat you have to be really careful about the carbs. High fat with carbs will definitely give you a weight gain not a loss.

Take a look at the rules for EFGT - I think it's a sticky and it should help you figure out what to eat! Good luck and keep us posted.

WOE: 8 Hour Diet / low carb
Start Date: January 2014
Helene... I recognize you from one of the other LC sites. Hey, I think I might have finally found exactly what I was looking for . A low carb plan that does not restrict carbs to 20/day and yet has all the good features (fat) that keep me satisfied from meal to meal.
I purchased the book and will be starting this tomorrow. It will be interesting to see if my weight loss improves with the EFGT principles. What the heck! I might as well try it. Atkins just isn't working for me. And it's not because I am cheating....because the annoying part of it is that I haven't had sugar or anything closely related to it; bread; potatoes; rice; pasta; etc. for weeks and weeks and weeks . However, staying within the 20 carbs has been so difficult . I am looking forward to being able to have cottage cheese with strawberries and raspberries for lunch once in a while.
I have read some of the info on this WOE and it seems very doable for me. The high protein breakfast is great because it will keep me satisfied until lunch. There are so many choices for lunch and dinner and even if I wind up with a total of 30 carbs a day, I will still be in the guidelines of the program. Can't wait to see if this works

Helene & Mulberry!

You all are doing what I did - I realized I was still stuck in low fat thinking mode and I was always looking for the next thing to eat.

One of the parts of the Eat Fat Get Thin way of eating is that too much protein can be converted to sugar in our body. So yes, eating more fat will make you feel full and may actually shut down your appetite in a very strong way.

Eating moderate protein, high fat and low carb will probably get your weight loss going without your hunger kicking in.

I think I eat under about 30 carbs/day. I would think a total of 30 carbs a day would be fine. Hopefully someone smarter will weigh in, too. I also do net carbs - subtracting fiber.

What Mary Kay said was spot on and really important. Carolyn and I talked about it at breakfast - if you are eating high carb, you'd BETTER eat low fat.
If you are eating high fat you'd BETTER eat low carb.
Otherwise we're probably looking at a heart event or stroke event, eventually.

We do have in this group many different ways of eating and it just shows how every body is different and different things work for different bodies. It has been a kind and welcoming group no matter how people eat!

Hey Judy, how does that work? subtract fiber from carbs? Is that from the totals on calorie counting sites? Sounds great!

ALSO, sad to say, calories do count.
Unlimited calories - no matter how low carb - will eventually end up on your body.

Exactly right - subtract fiber from carbs.
Your body cannot process them anyway.

Glad to have found EFGT

Actually I am really excited about finding EFGT! I am truly fine with giving up all of the bad carbs....sugar; bread; potatoes; pasta; etc. And I'm fine with eating all the many other things permitted....but to be able to add a few berries to my daily menu and just to have even 30 carbs a day to work with....well, if this works, I will have truly found the answer!! Can't wait to get started!

I find it hard when eating whole foods to figure out the fiber from the carb count when eating fruit. Does anyone have an easy way to do this?

I have used online calculators, and I guess I made notes of the things I normally eat.
But I don't eat many fruits at all.... I use lemon juice in salad dressings and I very occasionally eat blueberries and rarely strawberries - as a topping.

In the summer I will use a few frozen strawberries blended with heavy whipping cream & artificial sweetener to make a quick strawberry ice cream. It's crazy good.
Right now it's 14 degrees, snowing and lightly sleeting, so it does not appeal so much.

Thanks Judy. Fruit seems to be my downfall. I defiantly need to cut back portions on that. I do love my orange tree.

Here we are..I had to flip the picture as we were on our side..

The conference featured Carol Kent, Miss Kay Robertson (Duck D), who was a hoot and very downhome sharing the story of her alcoholic Phil, etc.., Lisa W, (Blare of Facts of Life) and another couple of ladies..Very inspiring..They talked about having Joy despite
difficult circumstances.

I am claiming 144 my pre-conference weight..I'll take a licking for that one pound up.

Hi Helene and Mulberry..Welcome to our little group..

Bad weather, girls? We are going to have 4 inches and the roads were slick coming home from lunch..KCity is bad, I think, dd said..The whole state of MO is supposed to
stay home..Wow..

A meetup would be very fun, very fun..

Hugs all around..

Well I was doing high fat all along and not following the lowfat part of the other plan. I have done it before and lost wgt, very very slowly. I am just impatient I guess.
This time I went way high fat and felt very satisfied but I missed fruit, beans and some other stuff. Not bad carbs. I cudnt wait till I got to the last day and could transition to limited carbs again!
I am not happy living on fibrous vegs, meat, nuts & seeds, eggs, cheese and heavy/sour cream, bacon fat and butter.
I can not do it. I just can't. 30g carbs a DAY is impossible for me. The high fat does make my appetite basically disappear but I still MISS fruit, etc. It's not a craving, it just makes me unhappy. Hard to describe. I'm very familiar with cravings and constant hunger/bld sugar issues. This is different.
Im familiar with Bruce's books and own some for the coconut oil aspect, as I was trying that for awhile to help my thyroid. It did no good even after 6 mos. oh well. it's still yummy lol

You can use 15-20g for a pc of fruit or 1c berries/8 strawberries as a good rule of thumb. I know raspberries that I buy frozen are like 10g a cup after fiber is subtracted. the more seeds in the berries, the more fiber. blueberries are the least fiber but still very good for you. a banana is like 1/3 banana for a svg size of 15-20g, maybe 1/2 a small one. it's just alllll carbs, no fiber. they use em for diarrhea to bind u up!
