hi!

Good news - DS is still in the running for a NOLA job!!

After he got the generic email, he sent a note to HR thanking them for thinking of him etc, etc.

The HR guy called him today and was confused.
Said he was still in the running and he'd check into it.
Turns out, unless you had been hired, everyone got that email, even if you were still in the interview process . . . .

So.......

And yes, we're home tonight!

 to you all!

DebbyL 12-31-2013 06:43 PM

Happy New Year! :friends:
That's good news MaryKay!

CarolynF 12-31-2013 08:18 PM

Hi

Wow...that is great news. Thank you notes pay off!!

:)

sjl330 01-01-2014 05:07 AM

Happy New Year!!!

MK, that's great news!!!!

Ok, I'm not skipping my weigh in, as much as I'd like to. When you dance you have to pay the fiddler, right? I was up just a hair under 2 pounds for this month from last month, which in itself isn't too bad. BUT, I'm up 5 pounds from this date last year, so it's back on the wagon for me for sure.

CarolynF 01-01-2014 06:16 AM

Happy New Year!! We watched Flight last night and then tried to watch some New Year's Eve programs, but they were rather dull..Where is Guy Lombardo when we need him? LOL.

Thanks to the stomach flu, I was down a pound this month. 143 this morning!

Sandy, you are our fastest loser, you will have those pounds off in no time..for sure.

Anything fun planned for today? Dh's eye doctor told him to use very weak reading glasses (1.00) so his eye muscles would have to work to see the print cuz they haven't worked since he was 40. Reading is his life and I'm not kidding, so we will see how that goes. Maybe I'll take him to the library for some large print books tomorrow???

:)

TuscanGirl 01-01-2014 12:27 PM

:hiya:

So is it possible to have lost too much weight this year?!

I've lost 20.4 lbs this year!
But most of it was from July until now.

Starting out the year as of my weigh-in this morning at 105.4lbs.

Carolyn - what's that line from Devil Wears Prada ~ "just one stomach flu away from my goal weight!" :D

What surgery did Gary have ....... - I thought his eyes would be better!

Sandy - you WILL have that weight off in no time! You lose so quickly!

Here we go. I weighed in at 277 this morning. It seems to be stuck right now. Hopefully a Whoosh will happen soon.

iakaren 01-01-2014 03:48 PM

If it is okay, I will join in. Need all the support and accountability I can get. 2013 was not a weight loss year for me. Dec 31 2013 at 192.5 (so sad)

Onward and Downward.

:welcome: Karen!

CarolynF 01-01-2014 05:28 PM

Hi gals..

MKay: Gary had the crystal lens cataract surgery, which is supposed to be very effective. He can see far away 20/20 now, but the close vision isn't good without help. Supposedly, it takes several months for the close vision to improve cuz the brain has to get used to the lenses. I'm sure it will be fine eventually and even if he gets permanent "readers" he won't care, but have to wait until Feb to see the regular eye doctor.

Yes, MKay..20 pounds is a lot of weight on your tiny frame..You probably are at goal..for sure..And are you eating enough???? Funny on the Devil quote..LOL..

IaKaren..where do you live in Iowa? We used to live in WDes Moines..

Sharon: Sending the whoosh fairy your way!!!

Going to watch the Baylor game..

sjl330 01-01-2014 05:44 PM

Welcome Karen!

MK, are you still losing? That's kind of scary if you continue to lose way more than your body needs to. I'm sure you look great now on your frame but you sure can't afford to lose another 20#, right?

I hope Gary can do away with all glasses in the end! Readers are great but I can never seem to have mine next to me when I need them, lol. And I probably have 10 pair!! Lol.

Did I tell you all I found the new season of Downton Abbey online and I've already watched the first 5 episodes. I hope I don't catch a virus from the site I've been watching them on, but now I'm hooked and can't seem to quit.

Ah - got it about Gary! I hope his eyes improve sooner rather than later!

I feel like I'm eating enough. When I'm hungry I eat, when I'm not I don't.

50 miles southwest of Des Moines.

CarolynF 01-02-2014 04:56 AM

Hi..

Okay..Karen..:) It is cold up there..Dh always comments because we loved Iowa, but
he didn't like the winters. I didn't mind cuz I'm a NH girl..

Oh, Sandy....You are tempting me.......But, I make dh watch it, too..So that is our Sunday night fun..

Anyone getting snow? We got a skiff, that is it, but looks like we are all in the deep freeze.

Who is watching the OU/Alabama game tonight? We might watch a bit..Don't know.
I do like college football better than the professionals, but it is more interesting when
it is "your" team that is playing.

Alex is still on insulin and will continue to do Tight Regulation to get him off and let
his pancreas heal. He was doing fine until he had the surgery, so will try to get him
back to no insulin. I'm not waking up in the middle of the night like last time..Will
check him in the a.m. and dose accordingly.

iakaren 01-02-2014 05:03 AM

Just checking in. That is my biggest problem is to quit checking in, and the scale starts to slide.

Yesterday went well for Jan 1st. No Gain, No Loss......

CarolynF 01-02-2014 05:57 AM

Karen...You can do it..Are you going to do CAD? See how that goes for you. For my ds25, it worked great, but for me, it didn't because I can't eat that many carbs..:( Check in as much as you can..:)

Our Avi's match!!! Welcome!!!

MK, I have some weight I could send you! :hyst:

Will weigh in am . Hi all!!!!

CarolynF 01-02-2014 10:07 AM

We all have weight we could send MKay...:)

JMCM1 01-02-2014 05:18 PM

I'm so glad I got my hair more blonde today because it will match my IQ....
I couldn't understand why I wasn't hearing from my friends at lcf.... it's because I didn't check for the January thread! REALLY?? Yes. *sigh*

Welcome Karen! I was hoping Cindy would see your avi and we would have a little horse talk!

MK you probably look fabulous, and you walk so much you must feel fabulous.
That is a lot to lose in such a short time, but I sort of thought you found the way YOUR body was supposed to eat, and then some stress here at the end of the year. :(

My cheat day was fabulous, partly because I didn't eat as much as I thought I would.
I had a croissant in the morning, popcorn drenched in butter for lunch and kettle-cooked potato chips for dinner. It was not such an eat-fest because I have spent about 48 hours watching the Walking Dead marathon. Thank goodness it is over because I'm constantly planning my escape from herds of zombies.

Took my mom for a CT scan today for her first look to see about cancer returning. Her liver enzymes are elevated, but that could also be medicine. Will let you know.

Yes Carolyn we got that same "skiff" of snow. Unremarkable but pretty. So cold, though!

O Holy Night Buffy's toffee arrived this afternoon and I've only had one bite and it's just going to have to do, but my goodness it is the real deal.
Absolutely delicious. I'm pretty sure I've never had better. :faint:

Happy new year, friends!

Will weigh in am . Hi all!!!!

My Avi is daughter and horse we raised from a foal. They are a good pair. I don't have enough leg muscle to jump anymore..

sjl330 01-02-2014 06:30 PM

Judy, I just love your posts!

Karen, beautiful horse! And I'm sure the rider is beautiful too.

Too cold here!!! And I have a breakfast date with some friends in the morning. Not real early though and I really am looking forward to seeing them. I'll bundle up good.

DebbyL 01-02-2014 06:45 PM

:aprayer: for your Mom - Judy. Glad you figured out where we were all hiding! ;)

Curious... what's CAD?

We've had 'warm' spells here. Hope the weather straightens up & behaves! Started out raining today, which makes a mess, then turned to snow... still trying to rain! :p Looks like a winter wonderland now... but the church parking lot was an ice-rink this morning.

I worked today, but it sure was hard to get up this morning! :stars: Its gonna take some practice, getting back to 6 am wake-ups.

CAD is Carb Addict Diet. Basically VLC 2 meals per day and then eat whatever you want for a 1-hr meal each day. (the more balanced the big meal, the better off a person probably is, but I have good luck with just eating what sounds good. The body knows what it wants...)

More to it, but that is quick summary.

CarolynF 01-03-2014 10:54 AM

Hi ladies..

Taking Alex to the vet for his kidney blood work and see if he has a low grade infection causing his "sugars" to be higher than before surgery..

Judy..your posts make me smile, especially when they include croissants and popcorn.

Who wants to see Walter Mitty? I think it will be great..Did you remember reading the
short story in high school?

My ds did CAD one summer and living here and working. Good LC breakie/CAD lunch (out)/Good LC dinner. Best of luck with it, Karen.

Debby: I'm sure you have Yak Traks, don't you? I hate icy parking lots.

What a beautiful horse and dd, Karen.

Okay..I got some La Tiara taco shells..Each shell has 4 carbs, so we ate 3 last night
with taco stuff inside. Has anyone tried them? They are tiny, but good..We like the
white ones.

JMCM1 01-03-2014 11:11 AM

OK, I think I did a version of CAD back in the 80s. That was actually my intro to LC.
The doctors Eads wrote a book that also had lc recipes (from Mary Dan) and they had the same theory - that the glucose response was not as severe if you ate very low carb until the one meal.

I, of course, overdid overdid overdid. I think I really am a carb addict. The new nut flours and coconut flour and artificial sweeteners have really changed my life and left me without craving (except for the noted popcorn, croissants and potato chips! ).

Although I realize we're all different, for me, high fat, moderate protein low carb has just been so easy. Plus the people on this particular board are excellent cooks and/or excellent pointers to great recipes. I've never been so happy with my way of eating until finding this group.

Carolyn, at Wal-Mart I have been buying, but reluctant to eat, Buena Vida small tortillas. They do contain wheat, but the size of the tortilla is plenty big. I have once or twice folded them in half, sprinkled the inside with grated cheese, and fried them in a little butter till they're crisp. Quesadillas! Dipped in sour cream & salsa they are fabu.
4 net carbs per tortilla and they are plenty big. They are sold refrigerated near the Mexican cheeses.

The reason I'm reluctant to eat them is I worry the net carb count could be way off - like the Julian Bread business. So I'm eating them sparingly.

HOWEVER I now have a recipe for breakfast burritos I think might be a good use for these things. I'd like to freeze them and be able to have them ready in a pinch when I'm running out the door.

I have not tried La Tiara taco shells - are they corn? I imagine?

Buffy's toffee.
*sigh*
angels sing

OH MY GOSH I forgot I have Yak Tracks!! Wish I'd remembered them on all the ice we had right before Christmas! Thanks Carolyn! They are stowed under my driver's seat and also apparently stowed out of my memory...

DebbyL 01-03-2014 11:28 AM

LOL!! I forgot about the ice cables too. Although, I wouldn't of had them yesterday. It wasn't icy at our place. Now I need to dig them out... from where ever it is I stored them.

Thanks for the explanation. I thought it might be Carb Addicts, but wanted to be sure. I tried that years ago too. I used to be so triggered by sugar & actually had low blood sugar for years... which thankfully has cleared up. I also really enjoy the low carb/high fat diet... with the twist of primal foods thrown in there. :stars:

Its a winter wonderland here today. Beautiful blue sky shining on snow-loaded trees & fields.
