AU-GAST AT OUR WEIGHT LOSS CHALLENGE

Good morning..

I am the same as last month, 144..:) I need to be aghast this month at my weight loss in my lower range..I liked 141, but I couldn't eat much..LOL

How is everyone doing??? House is clean for company, so that is a good thing.

A yummy Happy Birthday to Mary Kay!!!

JMCM1 08-01-2013 06:05 AM

:birthday: Mary Kay!! :birthday:

Carolyn I love the picture and thanks for the new thread!

Taking my mom to the gastro to discuss her MRI - recent hospital visit - impending, possibly, endoscopy....

DebbyL 08-01-2013 06:32 AM

Happy August :friends:
:birthday: Mary Kay

Have a great day!

sjl330 08-01-2013 07:24 AM

Stayed the same here last month too. I guess I can't complain.

Happy birthday MK!!! I hope you have a wonderful birthday.

Judy, I hope you get some kind of good news today or at least some clarity.

Buffy, cute pic!

Carolyn, you can come clean my house next, if you'd like, lol.

JMCM1 08-01-2013 12:16 PM

A little clarity. Apparently the pancreatic divisum is not at all rare. It just doesn't cause the problems as frequently as my mom is having.

The doc said he would work through my mom's insurance to refer her to a guy in Indianapolis who is a doc who is tops in his field (taking his word... :dunno: ) at putting in stents. The stent in the...gallbladder? Or pancreas? I already can't remember !! would, like all stents, make a bigger opening, and the organ would build up scar tissue around the stent. So that in a couple of weeks the stent would either fall out or be removed.

This doc says that has worked to prevent pancreatitis in other patients he's referred. There might be a guy in OKC which would obviously be closer, but he knows the Indy guy to be good... just about 10 hours from here and we would make it a girl trip, if we can keep my mom out of the hospital until then.

Thanks for the interest you all have shown. I'll keep you annoyingly updated.

Good day to all!

CarolynF 08-01-2013 01:19 PM

Hi ladies..

Oh, my that blueberry cream cheesecake was wonderful..Plus, I have lots leftover as only 4 gals came, which is perfect..:) I gave away the high carb stuff to the ones that came.

Judy: I think that your mom needs to see that guy and get a stent..I'm sure it is a very easy procedure. She has suffered enough and too many times. Sounds like a plan...

Sandy:..Akk...I hate cleaning, but like the look when it is done...Maybe it would be fun(ner) cleaning someone else's house..

 :jumpjoy:

And you feel well?

:high5:

We are all different. This may just be your new heavenly way of eating that keeps you well!

So do you eat low fat, too?

CarolynF 08-01-2013 07:55 PM

Wow, Mary Kay...That is amazing..but your health and well being is so important..Like Marie said, "Let them eat cake, bread, and pasta."

DebbyL 08-01-2013 08:58 PM

That's super Mary Kay! The thing that makes you feel better helps with the weight. Makes sense though. Things that don't agree with us cause inflammation. It would be hardest on your mind though, making the switch. Are you able to find good food choices?

DH's mother is in hospital right now, moving to a rehab center in a couple of days to try to strengthen her legs. She wasn't able to get up & change chairs, mainly because of a urinary infection weakening her body. She's feeling better, but kind of discouraged... they're making her exercise! Rather then just encouraging her to, which doesn't get any results.

We went for a fun ride to the creek again tonight. Molly swam quite a bit... she also got chased by the cows till I got too scared for her & put her on the quad... which she learned to relax & ride on. ;)

Hope everyone's doing great! :hiya:

JMCM1 08-02-2013 04:52 AM

I am astounded by how much impact a urinary tract infection has on our aging people. And so often there are no classic symptoms.
But lots of unexpected (to me) effect on their behavior.
Hope she survives the forced exercise! :)

Glad you could rescue Molly and she can ride with her parents - how cute!

CarolynF 08-02-2013 04:55 AM

Good morning..

Oh, Debby..older ladies don't realize that their leg muscles are so important to keep them active. Glad she is exercising..LOL.

Was Molly scared when the cows were chasing her? I think the cows probably have her "number" now and know she is not a professional...

Got my hotpants on and will go exercise. I need a long shirt to wear over them for sure. I'll just bring my shorts and change before I head to the coffee shop..They really aren't for public viewing..

Were you avoiding fat Mary Kay? That would explain some of the weight loss if you were eating carbs..We are excited for you!!! and glad you had a nice birthday..

Hope our "vacationers" are having fun.

Good day to all!

The pancreatic duct goes from the pancreas to the small intestine and dumps pancreatic digestive enzymes into the small intestine. Pancreatitus occurs when these digestive enzymes back up into the pancreas and start "digesting" it, hence the pain. Stenting that duct open would make sense. Here is a good picture showing an accessory pancreatic duct http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=...9QEwBQ&dur=250

If you are like me, it's more about total calories than composition.

128 yesterday morning. I could stand to lose 5 but I have more muscles on my arms than I ever had! Could still stand to lose 5 pounds though.

CarolynF 08-03-2013 07:17 AM

Hi everyone,

So glad our nurse Cindy stepped in..It is more about total calories..

Cindy, you do look great and remember muscles weigh a lot..I am betting your total
body fat percentage is pretty low..

Making the lemon cheesecake again for tonight..Thanks, Judy..:) There will be diabetics and LCers at the meeting, so hopefully they will enjoy it.

JMCM1 08-03-2013 09:58 AM

Oooh I'm so glad you liked it! Wish I were as creative as you with recipes, but at least I can share when I get one I like.

DebbyL 08-03-2013 10:21 AM

:hiya: Hi Ya! Happy Saturday!
Hey Cindy... I noticed in your signature..[Official freer of canned worms :D]
What does that mean?
Thanks

CarolynF 08-03-2013 12:59 PM

Judy, you are creative..:) For my topping for the large version, I bought a bag of whole strawberries, unsweetened..I thawed them out, then ran 1/2 through the blender. I added one package of unflavored gelatin, then cooked it on the stove so the gelatin would melt. Then I pureed the rest of the berries and added it to the gelatin/strawberry mixture and poured it on top of the "set up" cheesecake and refrigerated so it would gel up a bit.

I open cans of worms. I (inadvertently) start controversial topics. The dictionary says it means "a source of many unpredictable or unexpected problems", like starting a thread that says "calories don't count" or worse yet, "calories DO count!". That is the ultimate can of worms!:hyst:

JMCM1 08-03-2013 02:58 PM

OH!

I didn't know either. Glad Debby asked.

I'll buckle my seat belt and start looking for more of your posts!

Thank you Cindy :o makes perfect sense... I Googled it & there are actual canned worms! :hyst: So.... thought I'd better ask ;)
Thanks Judy, makes me feel better. :friends:

I took Molly to the vet today. She's having digestive distress, for some reason. Not eating or drinking. Got injection of fluids & anti-nausea meds. :( Praying she gets better overnight. :aprayer:
Dh's Mom is in the rehab place now... its a convalescence home. SIL was not impressed & MIL is owning up to being part of the problem. Dr has been telling her for years to exercise & build up her muscles... she put him on "ignore." She'll also still be on an anti-biotic for a couple more weeks. Hoping to only be at that home for one week... not so nice as the hospital was.
Have a great Sunday! :friends:

Shalbrihil 08-04-2013 09:05 AM

Hi everyone. We're back and had a great time. I'm suffering now with an eye problem that I'll need my doc to correct. There's always something huh.

I'm happy to say I lost last month and still going down. Starting weight was 294 and is now 280.1 this morning. Woo too!

It's a little hard trying to type with one eye closed so will see you all later. Have a lovely Sunday. Bye for now.

JMCM1 08-04-2013 09:38 AM

Gollee Sharon - woo hoo is right!
You are finding what works for you.... How nice.

I am so sorry about your eye.
Hope you can get in right away. :hugs:

So glad to have you back!

JMCM1 08-04-2013 09:42 AM

Debby I failed to say anything about our Molly - sure hope she will be on the mend very soon.

And of course the same for your dear MIL. Sounds like a lot more work than she has wanted to do. Maybe the motivation will be different now.

CarolynF 08-04-2013 01:02 PM

Hi everyone..

Poor Molly..What did she find to eat?? Praying she gets better quickly..

and your minlaw..My minlaw was the same way..She ignored having a knee replacement, then it was too late, and she ended up in a wheelchair..Not good at all..Hopefully, your minlaw can get back on track.

Sharon: Hurray for your weight loss!!!! Sorry about your eye..Do you feel like a pirate??

Started knitting a prayer shawl. Our church is going to start that ministry..Should be fun and easy..and our ladies who are homebound or nursing home bound will appreciate them, I'm sure..

Ds is back on his LC plan after having his company..He is testing his ketones with the sticks..LOL.

JMCM1 08-04-2013 02:32 PM

I wanted to start crocheting booties for the babies and now realize that's never going to happen... I am immersed in this work....

I like the idea of a prayer shawl. Is there a book going around or something I missed? :)

DebbyL 08-04-2013 03:36 PM

Congrats Sharon!

Molly is a bit more chipper & trying "tiny amounts" of food. Although on our walk around the yard, she tried eating more grass  I'm still syringing broth in her too.

We had a birthday lunch out with dil & G-kiddo's.

Hope your day is going great! :friends:

sjl330 08-04-2013 04:33 PM

Poor Molly. I hope it's short lived. Prayers for your minlaw too. Hopefully she's realized what she needs to do now and it won't be too late to help her.

We have a ladies group at church who makes prayer shawls. They also make stuffed prayer bears to give to kids in the hospital and to EMT workers so they can share with little ones they have to treat.

We had a lovely dinner on the Plaza last night with some out of town friends who were here for a long weekend. Some more of our Mexico buddies, but they live in Kansas too. We just had to go to Mexico to meet them, lol. They say they can see Oklahoma from their place in SE Kansas.

We went to see Wolverine today. It was pretty good. I always go for DH since he goes to see just about anything I choose. I really like Hugh Jackman which helps.
