Carolyn, check with Gary's company on the cobra, although sometimes cobra is very high as well. Check all available options because you will find that at this age, insurance for even one person is very high. I was paying close to $900 per month for just me until I qualified for medicare. It's why a lot of people have to keep working. A lot of companies used to give retiring employees and their families coverage for life but that is not very common anymore. Although, a dear friend is going to be able to retire from teaching in June, she is late 50's and has always carried their health insurance as her DH is self-employed, but she will qualify for the school districts health insurance for both of them from now on. Has worked the last few years just to get to this point where she could retire with full benefits.
DH and I have been self-employed more than not, so not always so good when it comes to benefits.

Hi there,
Sorry I've been scarce. I caught the flu from our guest. Was out of commission yesterday. Actually able to work today, but with some waves of cramping. I got off a lot easier than he did, he was in bed for 2 full days. Nice picture Cindy! Beautiful day today. ![]() |

I was sure you were immune from this version of the flu - after everyone you'd been around had it and you didn't get it! So sorry - hope someone took care of you. ![]() Also, selfishly, I have thought the same for myself - everyone around me has had it and I've avoided it. Makes me want to stay home.... ![]() |

Hi,
Yes, I know that insurance for one person is quite high..We do need to check around. I really just need hospitalization..I can pay my own doctor's bills, etc..Have to see what BC/BS offers.. Debby..Sorry you got the flu..Take it easy, and don't force food that doesn't sound good.. Oh...is anyone watching The Biggest Loser finale tonight??? Very nice contestants with no fighting..Then there is DWTS..I have quite the life..then there is checking Alex's blood sugar hourly thrown in..

Oh dear - hourly? That's a lot.... poor you!
![]() But you have good TV tonight! I will be straightening up some things that have been sapping my attention and my energy for months. When I was getting ready for church Sunday morning I tried on 4 skirts and all were embarrassingly too big, so my giveaway pile has grown. I am remembering Buffy felt so good about giving things away, I'm taking a page out of her book. Even if I fit in them again I'm sure I'd want something new. Carolyn my health insurance is mostly for hospitalization. I pay for my own well visits. I think if I got diagnosed with something ghastly it would kick in. I also have no RX coverage, which I may regret. I'm OK right now, but who knows??

There is a gal who gave me some advice on dosing according to a chart to keep the bs on an even keel..It is quite confusing, but Alex did hit the 60s-80's for a few hours..The key is to dose when the bs is at 150 plus..to try to get it down with some overlap. Luckily, I don't have many places to go this week..LOL.. The Biggest Loser was great.. |

Wow Carolyn, that's a lot of testing, dosing and figuring! Alex is so lucky to have a momma like you.
I'm meeting a group of friends today to see Identity Thief. I read the reviews and am not expecting much, lol. But it'll be a nice outing. I haven't seen them in awhile. My weight is settling back into my "window" safe zone. I really was hoping to lower the zone a little bit, but I don't think that's going to happen. Not anytime here real soon anyway. I'm comfortable here for now.

Hi ladies..
I missed the zombie romances, too..Young people like Cindy love them.. Yes, I feel like I work in a Senior Catizen Nursing Home. Found test strips online so much cheaper than Wallies..that is good. I think I need to train my dh tonight on how to test/administer the insulin..He said he has vaccinated cows before. I know I have lost weight this week from worrying about Alex's condition..I eat, but have no desire to overeat..Shock.. Ds gained some weight while he was gone, but has gotten 5 pounds off..So glad he knows how to lose it again!!! Sandy: I think Identity Theft looks like lots of fun..Hope you like it!! Debby: I was happy that Dani won..She looks fabulous and lost 43 percent of her body weight.. |

Well, the movie was very funny BUT very crude! Extremely R rated. But very, very funny.
I have book club tonight. I missed the last one so I'm really looking forward to it. Yes that yellow cake is good!! And so easy! There are so many things I want to make but I guess I better let DH adjust a little first. He's really feeling bloated and the extra fiber is the only reason I can think of. Unless he has a little bug or something. It really doesn't seem to be bothering me at all. Carolyn, which brand tester are you using. We have the Walmart brand one and use those strips. Are those cheaper online somewhere????? If so, please do tell. |

It seems like it must be the fiber?
I do not over-eat those little cakes or biscuits because of the fiber, but I must say - I have not had any "reactions." |

Oh, Carolyn, I ran a nursing home for awhile. Rose was getting fluid boluses, 2 different blood pressure meds, 2 different arthritus meds and infrared treatments for her arthritis but she purred, was happy and climbed in bed with us every night and followed Tom into the bathroom every morning to "supervise" his am routine.
![]() Poot went to the vet yesterday. She has a bulging disk in her back and is on a steroid and a pain med. We are hoping it is only a bulging disk and not spinal lymphoma. Ah, old age.... |

Hi
Oh Cindy you did have a real nursing home going on. My goodness. Poor Poot. Too bad that movie was crude. For Alex I got the Trueresult meter cuz it doesn't take much blood. The strips online are $20 for 100. At Walmart they are $36 for 50!! With a cat you go through a lot of them. I think peeps with diabetes can get them cheaper through the insurance but not as cheap as online. I thought NCAA started today. I guess not. Wichita is on it, too!! |

I'm not real sure when NCAA starts but I know KU plays Thursday night. I thought that there were games tonight too but now I don't think so?? I filled out my first bracket today. Talk about a guessing game, lol. I might as well have thrown darts!

Hi girls,
I'm feeling much better now. Was able to exercise today & do my "town-run." Got my test results from the Dr today... still borderline hyper according to the TSH number, but getting hypo symptoms. I was able to convince him though & he's getting my other T's tested now, to see what's up. This is the Dr of the 2 in the clinic that wasn't so open to giving me the natural treatment. So I'm real happy about that. Hope you're all doing great! G'nite. ![]() |

It's great to have a dr who'll really listen to you. I hope you get everything balanced out perfectly and feel wonderful.
I have to take my dad for his eye dr appt this morning and then meeting a friend for lunch. DH will probably work late tonight so IDK what I'll end up fixing for dinner. Some days I really hate planning meals! |

Morning friends!
Lots of nursing going on with our senior pets I see. DS called me Monday evening to tell me that they had to put my DDIL's poodle down on Monday morning. He was old and failing and they were talking about doing it but the saddest thing is that some bigger dogs attacked him Sunday evening and hurt him. DS didn't go into details but said they did have surgery on Sparky Sunday eve but on Monday the vet told them it would be best to let him go. So sad, my DDIL had him since he was a baby. Ollie will miss Sparky but maybe in Doggie Heaven there won't be a little 2 year old chasing him all the time, that will make Sparky happy. I have an appt. today with my endocrinologist, regular checkup for my thyroid and diabetes, had had to reschedule a January appt. so this is overdue. Not feeling good today, didn't feel good yesterday. I am going to try to make it to dinner with my dinner club gal pals this evening. Pretty and sunny here in Dallas, hope you all have a wonderful day! ![]() |

Hi ladies..
Oh, poor Sparky, but he is at peace now. So sad about his "attack"..That makes me mad. Lots of doctors' appointments..It is always good to get all your T's checked and hope that he can interpret them, Debby.. How did you make out, Buffy???? Exercised, shopped..Alex's gourmet, LC cat food came in the mail..He enjoyed LC duck for dinner. He is eating better than we are..LOL. Time to get ready for my Bible Study..I'm kinda wiped out, so I hope lots of ladies will talk.. |

Debby, so glad your doc will listen to your symptoms. You really NEED all those Ts checked - so glad you'll be able to get that.
Sandy - "planning meals" sounds so.....organized....not sure we can be friends...... KIDDING!!!! I plan meals by printing recipes and shopping for groceries.Eventually I see what "needs" to be cooked and sometimes I remember I had a recipe, and sometimes I don't! Playing pretty fast & loose over here. Buffy, that is a horror story. I am very sorry your DDIL's dog was attacked. The vet was surely right at that point. I think the ones I've met would rather save a dog than anything, but they are realistic - oftentimes more than I would be... ![]() Carolyn good luck to both your DH and to Alex! We, I think, finished painting the primer on the little out building. At the end of it all, I found we were both covered in ticks, but they all appeared to already have blood and were all dead. Just wiped away. We stripped and put everything in the washer, but I found another in my hair - it was dead and I'm not even sure it was a tick....Ugh I don't want lime disease - limes disease - whatever is so prevalent with those things... |

Ah,
sorry about all the pet troubles. worst thing about pets. ![]() Thanks. Decided to go ahead with the blood test this morning, ended up being at the lab for almost 2 hours, there was such a line-up! Then I found out (too late & years later)... that the deadline for getting there is 3 pm! I have been going in monthly & missing work... I'll be going straight after work from now on... I get off at 1 pm. Yeah, thanks, I hope the Dr can decipher the tests too, but just in case, I'll take it to the naturopath afterwards & get her opinion too (she does know her stuff). Time to get busy... see y'all later! ![]()

Morning
Carolyn, not sure but think Alex's care is as involved as Grants. Our neighbor has a diabetic cat that gets shots and then gets to eat a food he really likes afterwards so the cat will come and jump up on the stool for his shots. Sounds like you are doing a great job. Visit to endocrinologist was interesting. The power went out right after I arrived but they kept seeing patients, just in the offices with windows, not the exam rooms, and, having to make notes on paper, instead of the laptops they all use now. Went well, will get blood tests back next week but told him my "story" of woe. He singled out 2 of the newer meds I am on as possible problems with my lethargy, etc etc so today I am going back to neurologist and will get in to see cardio dr. Next week to make changes. I was hoping I would adjust to the side effects since the BP med is working so well but his thoughts convinced me it was time to try some other med. he was about a 20 minute drive and by the time I went there, stopped at a store I was worn out. I did rest a while and met my dinner club friends but was home by 8:30 and by then, completely worn out. |
