Yep he's LCing all the time and he is in ketosis. But he's still not losing any more. In fact he was up this morning again. Poor guy.

It's going to decrease tremendously! I bought a glucometer. Have you ever tried to finger stick a cat?! A 21.8 pound cat! Sqirming and not happy. I tried to two popular spots, the ear and a pad. No luck with either. Will try again this weekend. I work tomorrow. Rosemary was absolutely no problem compared to a diabetic cat!! Oh, and I bought a scale. The other two weigh 15.8 pounds each. They need to drop about 3-5 pound and Noland will do well to get to 16 pounds, a 5 pound drop.

Been up most of the night, hate those nights where I can't sleep. Now it will take 2-3 days to get back in sync.
Cindy, very interesting on your cat diet and diabetes testing, keep us informed about that, I really want to know how it goes. Like people, cats love carbs and that is what most cat food is I think, and like people, don't think we were really meant to eat that way. Since I can't sleep, thought I might as well come in the office and pay the bills, get that out of the way and maybe that will put me to sleep.

Cindy, when these kitties go back to your ex, is he going to keep them on their new WOE? I really hope so, especially if you're able to get them on the road to better health. Good for you, for doing this for them. Good luck with those finger sticks. I can't even imagine!!
Buffy, I hate those nights too. Luckily I rarely have them anymore but in my 40s I think I had nights like those about 90% of the time!! It actually became just my way of life. I'm so glad I can sleep now. Bailey has not been able to though?? She just acts anxious and keeps waking us up so she's had to sleep in the kitchen the last 3 nights. I think she has spring fever and wants to go outside and hunt all night. Not happening on MY watch, lol. I need my sleep even if she doesn't need hers. I can't believe it girls, I'm down again!!! 140.4 this a.m. I thought sure I'd either gain or stay the same today b/c I feel like I ate a lot yesterday and I felt like it was a higher sodium day too, but I lost. DH even lost one of the pounds he'd gained back that he'd lost before. I think it's going to be another beautiful day here. I sure hope winter is really over. KU plays tonight. We're invited to a tournament watch party but I don't know if we're going. We'd like to go to dinner early so we can watch the game. I think it starts at 6, I need to check on that. The recipe for the Lemon Bars is called Cool Lemon Squares and it's uses CarbQuik for the crust part. I think it's even on Linda Sue's site but if you can't find it I'll be glad to find it and send it to you MK.

Whoo Hoo Sandy, isn't it great to have those downward trends! That's a very good weight for your height isn't it? And from your pictures it looks like a great weight. Hard for me to give advice at my weight but remember as we get a "little" older we don't want to be too thin as it ages us.
My weight was 203.8 this morning, up just s smidge but I did eat more, on purpose, yesterday. Still having some tummy issues with the victoza so I need to keep food in my stomach even if not hungry. And, drink lots of water, that seems to help too. |

Yes I eat 3 meals a day and sometimes a snack. No I don't count calories, just carbs and yes I do eat a lot of fat. I haven't been actually tracking it but I've done this long enough to just know what I can eat or not.
Yesterday I had coffee w/ about 1/2 cup of half and half and a protein shake made with 3/4 of a scoop of the powder, 4 strawberries and water. Lunch: Steak and blue cheese salad at Panera Dinner: a large ribeye steak, grilled asparagus with butter and a tomato/cuke/onion salad with ranch dressing on it. I also had 2 of the low carb lemon bars I made. All that was 2199 calories!! Calorie Breakdown: Carbohydrate (10%) Fat (64%) Protein (26%) I kept track yesterday b/c a friend wants to know what I've been eating as she wants to give low carb a try. I don't think I always eat that many calories but I do eat a lot. I've been told I'm lucky to have a good metabolism at my age and I guess I am. |

Maybe it is the high fat that is making you have a fast metabolism, Sandy. Do you remember before eating this way? I used to gain on fruit and ate less. DId you say that you had once tried The Carb Addict's DIet? Do you think EFGT would work if we had one meal a day a reward meal even just for a birthday or something as long as we at in an hour? Have you ever just had an all out eat day eating whatever you wanted.......sort of a pigout day, maybe on a vacation or special event?

Oriana,
I've been Lcarbing since 2003 and I certainly have NOT been perfect. In fact, most of the time I'm way less than perfect and there's been plenty of time periods where I'm basically not even dieting at all. I have a 5# window that I try to stay in. I weigh every day and if I go above that top number in the window I eat better and get it back down. However, due to my imperfections, lol, that window had slid up by another 5# in the last couple of years. So just in the last few months have I been working really hard to get my weight back down in the window where I really want it to be. But I also went on a 2 week vacation in Feb. and had anything I wanted. So I'm not rigid, but I know what I'm supposed to do. I've also been at a healthy weight for at least the last 5-6 years so I've basically been doing maintenance. |

Hi ladies..
Crazy day..Didn't have time for exercise as I had a meeting at 9 p.m, then lunch with a friend, then visited Beth's minlaw, Connie at the hospital in another town. She is doing much better... Sandy is our best loser because of her high metabolism, we think. Gosh, poor dh..I hope he doesn't give up the ship on LCing... Buffy: I'm so glad that your weight hasn't gone up much..Maybe you will be in Onederland by May...or even April... I met a lady at the vets who has a diabetic cat..She brings him in to be tested once a week to the vets. Yup, we will watch the KU game..Too bad about WSU, though.. Hmmm..I think I'll look up those Lemon Bars, too.

Sorry about all the questions, but thanks for answering. Have you had your cholesterol, blood pressure, etc. checked after going low carb? I am a very big eater for being such a little person so sometimes my appetite scares me. I can eat like a man if I choose to. No problem to down a Whopper with cheese, lg. fry, a coke and then go get ice cream. How about you?

Sandy - is this it??
Ingredients for "cookie" bottom: 1 cup Carbquik Bake Mix 1 stick (1/4 lb) unsalted butter, softened 1/4 cup Splenda Preheat oven to 350°F. Put all ingredients in food processor and process in pulses until crumbly. Press into a greased 9x13x2 cake pan. Bake 15 minutes or until just browned. Allow to cool while you prepare filling. Ingredients for filling layer #1: 4 eggs 1 cup Splenda 5 Tablespoons lemon juice 1 tsp lemon zest (grated lemon rind) 1/2 pkg Lemon flavor gelatin 2 Tablespoons water Beat these ingredients together well. Pour over slightly cooled crust and put back in oven for 30 minutes or until set (watch carefully — ovens vary!) Cool completely. Then mix... Ingredients for filling layer #2: 4 Tablespoons Splenda 3 oz cream cheese 1 Tablespoon lemon juice Blend all ingredients for final layer well, and drizzle over bars. Refrigerate and cut into squares and enjoy! Makes 24 3"x1 1/2" bars. 3 grams net carbs per square.

oriana - you can have the occasional off meal, but not daily.
And you can't eat high fat AND carbs - that's how we all got this way! ![]() So you could eat the Whopper but not the fry. The ice cream depends on what dairy does to you - with some, they can't lose with it and have to restrict it. Carolyn - thanks for the link! Sandy - you too! Now - what does it do for you? ![]() Buffy - I'm so excited for you!!! ![]() |

Oh..looks good, Sandy..If peeps don't have CQuick they can probably use some almond flour mixed with less protein powder to equal the cup. Also, I might add an egg to that crust, too or at least an egg white to keep it together better..

Mine is staying together quite well. You can hold the bar and eat it; you don't need a plate. I might add a bit more sweetener to the crust next time, or use 2 different types of sweetener. I think they're really good!

Yup, when you use CQuik, it acts like flour and stays together better than almond flour.
I do have some CQ in the freezer....... |

I bought a digital scale to weigh the boys. I weighed them 2 days ago and everyone is down this morning. Probably too much. Noland went from 21.8 to 21, Bob went from 15.8 to 15.4 and Vincent went from 15.8 to 15 pounds. With the exception of Bob, this is too much for everyone. The veterinary websites suggest no more than 2% per week so that's about .3 pounds for the smaller boys and about 1/2 pound for Noland. I am calorie counting a little better to make sure they get enough. I am especially concerned for Noland as his insulin requirements are going to change. We have a Monday appointment with my vet so maybe he can give me some pointers. The 2 long hair are getting a "lion cut" in 2 weeks so maybe I can nick the body skin. It will be easier if he gets off the insulin!

LOL..I love it, Cindy....You are running a Spa for Kitty Kats..The Biggest Loser East..LOL.
I should send my Alex over..He weighs 14 pounds..I think his key is inactivity.. Poor dh has the tummy flu..Luckily, I slept in my ds' old room last night and will continue to do this until he is better. I have some norovirus spray for my hands that I am using a lot.. Tummy flu is the worst ever, I think. No fancy Irish cooking for me today..I got dh some ginger ale and saltines and chicken broth. |

Carolyn, yes, the biggest loser!! Perfect! The boys are defiantly doing LC and I am adding 1 oz of raw to each of their diets. It is a frozen, commercial cat food that is pressure pasteurized so I feel better that it is contaminate free. Yes, our pets should be LC also!!
