Need help figuring out why I can't lose weight.
I have been on a low carb diet for close to 8 weeks.
The first 5 weeks, I lost 8 pounds. The last 3 weeks, I've held weight. Here is what I ate yesterday August 12th, 2011 Meal Item Name Calories Sugars Carbs Break Hardboiled Egg 80 0g 0g Break Sheep's Milk Yogurt Plain 140 3g 7g lunch Brocolli, Raw 19 3.7g lunch Canned Salmon 125 0g lunch Pistachio Nut 8 .41g lunch Strawberries 77 10.1g 20.2g afternoon snack Peanuts 160 2g 5g dinner Fresh Straberries 2 0.3g 0.5g dinner Rosated/grilled Chicken Wings 43 0g dinner Steak 487 0 I do eat some fruit almost every day....an apple or a nectarine. I eat a plain sheep yogurt that has 7 carbs in it every morning along with 1 hard boiled egg Any thoughts? |
Too much fruit makes it hard to lose..berries in moderation sometimes don't cause a problem, but apples and nectarines might knock you out of ketosis..
Do you have ketone sticks? They really help to keep you in ketosis..which is fat burning... |
First off welcome to LCF's. From what I see your not really doing induction as described by Atkins. I would lose all of the fruit as it's high sugar content is not recommended. Nuts will stall most as will to much cheese. I am sure others with more knowledge will chime in shortly.

I never did the introduction......Never understood why it was necessary......
I have not had bread, pasta, or any sugar other than once a week I'll have milk. I might be having fruit (strawberries, apples, nectarines) probably about 5 times a week As for atkins, I am only following a high fat, low carb diet. I am also reading John Yudkin's books as Atkins cites his source in his own book. |
Why induction
Welcome!
Low carb diets all basicly have the same underlying mechanism for weight loss....ketosis. Sometimes it's difficult to switch over to this mechanism. Induction helps if induction doesn't do it a "fat fast" surely will. Once in ketosis a little good carb won't hurt but sugar is a killer especially fructose.... fruit sugar. |
