They spoke mostly French in Sarah's Key. There's a bit of dialogue in Yiddish and German but they don't even sub-title those parts so I guess it's just background dialogue.

A quick update!

DS19 is moved in (1 roommate and their room has it's own bathroom!) and we only saw him briefly today. I miss him - but the 2 glasses of wine at the Parent's Reception helped to dull the pain!

Tomorrow we'll spend the morning going to speakers together, eat lunch together and then we're off and he'll be in Chicago . . . . all alone! Yikes!

And he'll be fine, right?

LOVED Sarah's Key!! Hope I can see the movie!

Thanks, Sandy...I'll have to pay attention during the show, I guess..No popcorn eating.

Oh..your own bathroom is wonderful...He will be fine, fine, fine.... what an adventure for him.

We will lift up adjusting prayers for him and comforting prayers for you, MKay..

Morning,
Looking forward to seeing my little ones this morning and then the movie. I don't mind subtitles if the movie is really good and this one must be.

DGS got moved into his dorm, he is excited about being away from home for the first time, hope things go well. His sister moved into a dorm last year when she went to college but it was in a nearby town so she can get home as often as she likes and it was still a tough adjustment.

Allergies are kicking in big time, can it get any better in this awful heat? Itchy eyes with dark circles under them, so attractive and drainage and sneezing and woke up with a headache. Great!

Yes, Carolyn, moving is an adjustment. My BFF from Iowa just moved from where they had lived for years and years across Iowa to be near her DD and her family. After the month or more it took to get settled, she went right out and found a part time job, partly for the money but partly to meet people. She took a job at a preschool for just 3 hours a day, anxious to see if she likes it or not. I don't think I would but everyone is different.

Found a new source for beef. Our Kroger sells Nolan Ryan natural beef and this week they had strip steaks on sale, we got 2 to try them out, very good so went back and got 6 more for the freezer. Our Tom Thumb sells Angus strips which are very good but very very seldom go on special.

....still at 154..Maybe I should eat less??? LOL..

Buffy: Did your niece find a job after her internship?

Wow..Nolan Ryan has a farm??? LOL..Bill Kurtis has some cows around here and sells
them as Tall Grass Beef..

Moving is a huge adjustment..We see it all the time with our job..and have experienced it. Just met a new Jr. College English teacher..She is beautiful, tall part white/part Korean, has beautiful skin and dresses to the 9's..high heels, with it outfits..She asked
us why people stared at her...We told her that she is really beautiful and dresses alot
more sophisticated than many of the peeps around here.

LOL! Carolyn, when my kids take their spouses back to the small town they grew up in, they all ask the same question, why is everyone staring at me. We have to explain that they all know each other and when a new person is in town, everyone stares at them. hahaha. And, to be beautiful and dress very sophisticated in one of the smaller town really draws attention. Hope she doesn't let it get to her and they accept her.

I know our niece found another internship but not sure if she has found a real job yet, need to catch up with her.

Enjoyed Sarah's Key today with DD and seeing my 2 little ones. WE played and played and laughed and laughed at them being silly and having fun.

Loyola has the right idea.

We had 2 days of Discover Loyola after move-in day. The kids went to their sessions and the parents went to their sessions.
DS19 met the great kids in his group and we had to drag him away to have lunch with us today. So I knew he was ready.

I knew I was ready when I realized I would rather jump into Lake Michigan than sit through another session!

It was definitely one of my less emotional good-byes, because I know he's happy!

However, I'm in denial about my "empty nest" because for now, he's just away at camp! ヅ

I have great-grandbaby today and he's taking his morning nap. I won't have near as much time to play today as usual. And won't for the next week or two. Plus, my back hurts today. Not good!!

Hi gals..

Lake Michigan sounds good to me today.. Glad your ds is adjusting..He was a social
kiddo anyway..I know he will have a great experience. Dd and her dh lived in Evanston
and really enjoyed the beach...

Sandy: Ouchie, ouchie...I have a standing appointment with my chiro every month and it keeps my poor back in shape.. Have fun with the darling baby..So fun at that age..

Glad your niece got another internship..Surely something permanent will show up soon.

Hey..going out to dinner on the company..That doesn't happen much. Two visitors at the office today and dh invited them to dinner..We are going to the new place in town..
Whoppee..

Evanston is gorgeous!!! Our hotel was west of there in Skokie and we traveled through every day just to look at the great houses.

What's for dinner tonight?

Morning!

Good checkup at the dentist yesterday, was worried about teeth on my left side, been having pain there for the past 2-3 months, very sensitive but they only found one small little cavity that I will get fixed next week. I knew I hadn't been for too long, I had cancelled my last appt. and forgot to reschedule it, heard my dentist had a stroke and had a replacement for a while, then heard he was back part time and I kept waiting to get a card from them telling me it was time to go in. Well, to my horror, I found out yesterday that I had not been in for 4 years!!! Yuck! The tech did tell me I sure had excellent home care as my teeth really looked good but I always went every 6 months, just goes to show you how senile I am becoming and how fast times flies when you are a little mental

Picked up DGS 11 after school after athletics at 5:00 and we went to get a bite before I took him home, then he decided he wanted to come to my house so we did that and his mom picked him up. He is in 7th grade and he picked athletics instead of PE this year so that starts last period and they keep them for an hour or more after school every day???? DD didn't know that when he signed up and if he wants to stay in it, they will let him but this means he and all the others have to be picked up daily, can't ride the bus. I just wish they could get everything done during the school hours, these kids have enough with home work, other activities, etc. that cuts into family time.

Rant over....

Sandy, are you going to have the baby for the next couple of weeks? You are doing great at helping them out but not so good for a bad back, huh?

MK, adjusting??? DD has been so busy with her school starting and all the new kids there that I think she has adjusted already to Graham being in college.

Carolyn, I would assume WW would be busier this time of year with families moving in before school starts? And, how was the new place in town you went to eat at?

Hi Cindy, you have been quiet lately, are you still watering, watering, watering? Everything here is so past water, any help, it is just scorched beyond repair. Saw a picture in the news of power line poles leaning because of cracks in the earth. Wow, we need rain. Heard a clap of thunder in my sleep early this morning and an area not to far from us got a tiny bit of rain but nothing here.

Buffy, we have had workers for a week at the house putting in a new deck and screened in porch so I have been preoccupied! We have had rain here in the past 7 days and the hot spell is broke as the rest of next week is in the 80's. Now instead of watering, I will be mowing!!

Got my thyroid results. I take 3 grains of imported Armour. My FT3 is 4.7 with a range of 2-4.4 so it is slightly high and a FT4 of 1.24 with a range of 0.82-1.77. In Feb., I was also on 3 grains and my FT3 was 3.1 and my FT4 was 1.03. The only difference is the addition of 7-Keto which is proported to boost thyroid function. Maybe it did!

Oh, how nice, a screened in porch, you will really enjoy that.

Wow, sounds like the Keto 7 did boost the tyroid function. Impressive.

Hi gals..

I'm at the Iron Curtain of 154..Oh well..

Yes, summer is always a time for houses to move and peeps to move in, but
since Cessna isn't hiring, it cuts it down..We have an Amazon distribution center near us, so lots of peeps move in to work there..They move those peeps around alot.

Dinner was great..I had ribs..The two men who were visiting were from Peoria, Illinois..Nice guys..both went to KState, too.

Cindy: Hey, I think that is fine, don't you? If you are on BHRT, Pam always said that she wanted her T3 up to the top..I'm sure it was the 7-Keto.

My kids lived in a really cool apartment across from the Northwestern Football Stadium. It was a very safe area..They could never afford a house
there, though...ohmygoodness..

Buffy: Oh yes..those after school practices last a while..Is he playing football???? Maybe he should have picked PE..

My dd and her dh put a little deck on the back of their little home and a screened in part, too..She said the bugs are bad in KCity.

I'm facing an iron curtain too! I hate it!! But I know I'm the one who got myself here and I'm the only one who can move me past it.

Buffy, yes I have the baby the rest of this week and then next week for sure. I can tell none of them really understands why I can't/won't keep him full time. I didn't understand when I was their age either. I found a good place he can go but it's a bit more expensive than they were wanting. I'm almost ready to pay the difference until they get on their feet better financially. At least then I'd know he was in a good daycare and could stay in that same one until kindergarten! This is causing me too much stress, let me tell you.

Sandy - that's so nice of you! And no - we don't understand when we're young that babies are just too much work!

Carolyn - Near Northwestern is a very nice area - I'll never have that much money to put into a house either!

I'm at 119.6. At least I have been since I returned from Chicago.
The food was pretty sparse for the 3 days we were there, so that has to be why ~ Now I'm just trying to keep it there!

Buffy - I think I'm adjusting! Thanks for asking! It's so hot here, most of the time I think he's at the pool and won't be home until later. Then when later comes, I forget!

I haven't cleaned his room yet either. Maybe that's why it seems like he just stepped out!

Carolyn, yes, those are good labs and I'm gonna leave it alone.

Sandy, I totally get it! A newborn is a lot of work and you really are stuck in the house for the entire duration. You can't even work in the yard unless someone is in the house. I totally get it! You are the grandmother. You have raised your children and you are not going to do round 2. They will get it when they are older.

I'm the GREAT grandmother Cindy. I did round 2!! I'm just not up for round 3.

He just left and I'm exhausted! I feel like a brand new mom feels.

I like Pizzaria Uno in Chicago too. In fact, I don't think there's been a food in Chicago yet that I didn't like.

Good job MK!

OMG Cindy, food porn..... that looks delicious!

Yes, Sandy is on round 3. I often had said that we should be old first, and then grown young, maybe we would appreciate how our bodies feel, look and act if that were the case. I know when I was young I sure didn't understand or have a clue as to how tired an older person gets and I am talking older person our ages, not old old. And taking care of a small one is just extra tiring for some reason, it just wears us out. Sandy, you are a great, great-grandma for helping them out this way. I hope they truly appreciate what you are doing.

I never thought the KC Uno's was as good as the real deals in Chicago, lol.
And thanks for the compliment.

I think they do appreciate me doing this but they'd really like me to give in and say I'll do it all the time. They went to interview somebody tonight. Ugh!

Why did someone post that beautiful picture of Chicago Pizza???? We lived 70 miles from Chicago and I still remember my first Gino's pizza..Holy smokes.
Now, this would be very easy to make LC..

Sandy: Do not give in..Do not give in..I would pay the difference, too for good childcare..Do not give in. You have worked long and hard to raise your kids..and you want to enjoy your little greatgrandson as a ggrandmother, not a babysitter..

I waited a while to clean Brett's room when he left..But, it is weird to see his room clean all the time now..

Lunch with my exercise friends tomorrow..The gym owner's birthday.. I am anxious to try the Chicken Caesar salad at our new restaurant..

Cindy - I used to love Giordano's and Gino's East and Uno!
But no dairy, remember!!

Food was sparse because we were eating what the kids ate at all the functions. I can only have so many hamburgers and hot dogs!

Sandy - you've more than done your part!!

Morning!

BE strong Sandy. I know it is hard on you and them. My DS and DDIL have worked it out so that they are each home 3 days per week and then her mom takes the 7th day, they both work jobs that have weekend hours. It was really hard because he is an apprentice in a golf program and assistant golf pro and gave up a small promotion so that he could be home 3 days and right now, she is the major wage earner and gave up a day to be home 3 days. They were so determined not to put him in day care yet. I just wished I were close enough to them to pitch in 2-3 days a week but again, I am the grandma, not the great grandma. Are both the grandmothers working or too far away to help out?

Hmmm, we used to have a Uno's in Dallas too, not sure if it is still there or not but I have eaten at one of the famous Chicago ones and it was good.

Dinner club is tonight. We are doing something different this month, going to one member's home where we are each taking a dish, then we have a game we play where we also do kind of a chinese gift exchange if you win a round, you get a prize, but someone can steal it, etc. For my gift I made a batch of my Toffee that everyone seems to love, will put it in a pretty container. Then we put the gifts in plain paper bags so you don't know what you are picking. It is fun.

Sandy - Wow - so that baby has a baby?! it's wonderful that they want you - because you did such a good job with him - but stick to your guns!!

Buffy - I love those gift exchanges!!! So much fun, especially when everyone starts to fight over 1 present!!.

Hi ladies..

Stick to your guns, Sandy..Finding daycare is part of the "parenting" experience. So, you can enjoy being ggrandma..

Yes, that dinner club sounds like fun, Buffy.

Off to lunch with my exercise group. Did my WalMart run ...needed cat litter..LOL.

Chat with you all later.
