Carolyn- our ground is crappy here. I do container gardening. You might want to try it, it's easy. My friend lives in Kansas and she did her first garden this year.

Cindy- how was your birthday? Next year you can celebrate the anniversary of your 49th birthday. This year I'm celebrating (the 4th) anniversary of my 30th. LOL!

Bacon and eggs again for breakfast. (No bagel today) 1 cup of coffee with 2 tb of heavy cream.

Even if I'm not losing, at least the food tastes good and I'm not hungry or feeling deprived! When I did weight watchers (wth was I thinking?!) Breakfast was half a bagel with fat-free cream cheese or a small bowl of cereal with reduced fat milk, and coffee with sweetener and a tsp of half and half. Totally not satisfying and I was hungry an hour later. I drank the coffee just to suppress my appetite. So glad I'm back on the low-carb wagon.

I'm trying to slowly switch my family over to this WOE but it is going to be a struggle. We already don't have anything in the house with HFCS or corn products of any kind. No artificial colors, flavors or sweeteners. No soda or chips. I've slowly gotten rid of it all. I rarely buy bread anymore, I make the kids wraps with tortillas. We eat one vegetable (sometimes 2) at dinner, and the kids HAVE to eat it. They get fruit at lunchtime. I do let them indulge in crap-food at birthday parties and holiday events, but even then- no corn chips, no soda, they can have pizza, a slice of cake and some ice cream. I hate that my son, to this day, bugs me for candy at least once a day. I bought organic suckers made from fruit juice and cane sugar for him to have sometimes. But he got hooked on Halloween candy and still asks for it everyday. He is super skinny and clearly has no matabolic issues so hubby thinks its fine. I appease the kids by letting them have dessert if they eat their veggies, but it is 2 small organic cookies or a small scoop of natural ice cream.

I am letting my 10 yr old dd read Groves book. She's only in the introduction. She's got her dad's (ex husband) body type, very husky and at 10 she's already complaining that she feels fat. I was always boney when I was growing up, so I never dealt with feeling fat until after I had kids. I'm hoping she'll try eating this way, and see if that helps. I already warned her, that she is just big-boned and she should try to accept her body now cause stressing out about it isn't going to change anything. She eats decently so I don't really know how to help her. And she runs and plays at school, loves basketball and jump rope, so exercise isn't an issue.

I have to keep nasty food on hand for hubby who can eat anything he wants. He thinks we should eat whatever we want cause the world might end tomorrow. He is happy to eat ramen, cheetos, hormel chili, canned soup and other gross food. He prefers canned veggies over fresh etc. He eats tons of fast food. He thinks the kids are fine to have fruit snacks and gatorade. Luckily, he lets me decide what the kids eat! But he does sneak a drink of gatorade to my son once in a while if I'm not around. I do buy organic, fruit juice fruit snacks that they can have on occasion- but they are still sugar!

I just wish I could banish sugar and bread from my house completely. I'm going to give it my best shot though. Baby steps....

(Sorry for the rant! Too much caffeine!! I was out of decaf )

I did WWers twice and lost great, but gained it all back twice. I like this sustainable way of eating and my blood numbers are wonderful.. When you get older, you worry about that..LOL.

It is hard when you have family..You sound like a great mom. You know, before I went to LC 8 years ago, I ate the cheetos, etc....or rather fritos..and wondered why I was fat..LOL.

Hugs all around..Going up to Salina to see our ds for Easter as his gfriend is heading to Atchinson to see her grandparents that weekend..I think he will sneak in a Friday night date with her, he said..Must be love...LOL

Yes, Dad is finally back home. Since last night. I take him back to have his incision looked at tomorrow. And to have the stitches taken out.

Remember a few years ago when I lost my hearing all at once? Now my DH had it happen to him! He's at the ENT right now. I hope they can fix him up like they did me.

Morning!
Been a busy few days and finally stole a moment to get on here before I get ready to head to DS's house to see little Ollie. He laughed for the first time on Sunday, can't wait to see him and hold him.

Sandy, what caused the sudden loss of hearing? That just happened to my BIL, in one ear. They gave him some steroids and told him it might or might not come back, but it is getting better my sister said.

Chelsie, good for you on steering the kids into healthy eating, bad DH, LOL. He is like my DH, he could and still can eat anything but has always been thin although he has a tummy now at 70. It is really hard today to feed your kids right with the crazy busy schedules all families are on, plus, all the processed food in our world today. I really think that is what lies behind so much of the sickness today and wow, especially diabetes, that is taking over the world.

Hi MK, if you get on to check on us! Have fun with DD and enjoy Aspen.

Carolyn, perhaps Brett has met "the one". My DS didn't get married until he was 32, said although he dated lots of nice girls he never even thought of getting married until my now DIL came along, and she said she was the same, really didn't think she would get married and they do seem perfect for each other. And now they have our adorable little Ollie.

At the casino party, I won one of the prizes, mine was $500, which they put on your players card and you had to play it on the machines, but hey, I turned it into $2300 so I was very happy. The grand prize winner won a new red cadillac and she was extremely happy!! It was fun.

Now, off to visit DS, then when I get home, we have relatives coming on Thurs. and they will probably be here until Sunday or so. I will enjoy it all and know I will be ready to relax when next week rolls around.

Antibiotics can be ototoxic (hard on your hearing). Some can cause deafness.

Chelsie, if I didn't say it, welcome to our happy little place on the boards! It has been a long 2 weeks at work and I am only doing 3 word sentences right now! haha

They said my hearing loss was from a virus. I hadn't taken a antiboitic recently. But my DH's ended up being a big glob of bloody waxy stuff over his ear drum. They flushed that out and now he seems to be fine. They told me the sooner I got treatment the better chance I had of regaining all my hearing. I did regain all mine Buffy, I hope your brother does too.

My DSIL and DGS are both getting baptized at Easter Vigil Mass so on Easter morning we're all getting together for breakfast and then maybe grilling later in the day. No hard and fast plans, just going to try to relax and take it as it comes.

I did my good deed for the day and the Girls Scouts helped out..Our lawnguy has Type I, but he is a single guy and isn't perfect on his eating, etc..Well, he stopped when he was almost done and told me he felt dizzy and thought he should go to the ER..I had him sit down and took his blood sugar and it was 25!!! So, I gave him 4 Girl Scout cookies and some LC milk and he felt lots better.. He told it was 40 this morning when he got up..
but he gave himself some insulin..(duh) and had cottage cheese/etc. for breakfast..
He is going to the doctor..

Wow Carolyn!! You knew just what to do. Thank goodness! I bet he was very thankful too. Do you or Gary have to check your BS regularly? I don't even have a BS checker, but my dad has to check his all the time.

Morning!
Wow, Carolyn, that is really low, thank heaven's you knew what to do. REal coke, OJ, even a T of real sugar will bring it up fast too. I drank one of those energy drinks on the way to DS's house the other day b/c I was so sleepy driving, and had 2 episodes of low BS that night, won't be drinking those again.

Thanks Sandy and Cindy for the info on sudeen hearing loss.

Had a wonderful time with DS, DDIL and Ollie, he is very cute and so sweet and grinned at me a lot. It was great to be with them.

Now, relatives coming in town later today and I am so tired. But, they are just staying here, have other people to see and things to do, so just dinner with them tonight and the rest of the time I think they will just be mainly sleeping here.

Hi ladies..

I was thankful that I knew about blood sugar stuff..thanks to LCing..I think Tony had some orange juice and glucose tabs, which bring it up fast and down fast..While on the other hand, some of those wonderful chocolate covered peanut butter GS cookies are perfect for a slow sugar raise..

I check my bsugar from time to time..If I ate high carbs, I think I could become a diabetic pretty easily..

Buffy: Do they call the baby "Ollie"??? Have fun with your relatives..

Carolyn- as a Girl Scout leader- BRAVO =) Glad the cookies saved the day!

Buffy- have to say I LOVE the name "Ollie." I'm a fan of classic names. My DS is Wyatt =) (I wanted his name to be Dexter but DH would have nothing of it!)

Sandy- I hope you are able to relax and enjoy Easter (and the crap food that goes with it) LOL!

Cheated LIKE HELL today. I felt like I was cramming a years worth of carbs into one evening. I'm sure I'll pay for it tomorrow.... but hopefully I will take it off--- plus more!

Hi,

I find its hard to stop at one cheat for the day..If I cheat at lunch on Sunday, I might
cheat that night..I'm sure those taco chips break down my resistance..

Hmmm...gotta check the weather for this weekend. I have an umbrella packed for sure.

Sandy: That is right..Cindy is up there in the north country.

The Mt. Hope Cemetery peeps faxed me a map to where my great grandpa is buried, so we can go on a Sunday..

Anyone do Google Earth? Dh does this when he has to go a place he has never been.
It's great and fun..Sometimes you can see the streetview, too.

Happy Easter everyone!

Woke up to a beautiful, sunny day after a day of clouds and threats of thunderstorms yesterday. They even stopped DGS's baseball game last evening because of lightning and threat of rain, and, in some areas it did storm, we were lucky and didn't get any.

Yes, we do call Oliver Ollie. It took me a little while to warm to the name but I know that whatever name a child has soon becomes just right for them and this has as well. Now, I love it and we get lots of great comments on it. I never let the kids know how I feel about a name they pick because I know I will grow to love it and it is their choice.

We are home today, got together with the kids yesterday but our company from out of town is here and with their daughter for brunch, then they are going to fix dinner for us tonight, she is a great cook and so they are going to treat us, un-necessary of course but will be very nice.

We went to an Easter Egg Hunt/party with the kids yesterday and everyone had a great time.

I just have a week and 1/2 to get ready for my London trip so the next week wil be busy.

Great fares you found Carolyn. And yes, google earth is great, DGS introduced me to it.

Hi ladies..

I was happy to weigh in at 153 this morning..We ate big lunches and barely any supper..
So maybe that worked..

Nice to see our Brett..His apartment was clean..for the most part..I was very pleased.
We saw "Water for Elephants"..The elephant was wonderful and kind of makes you
want one..almost.

MK: Welcome back to the lowlands..

Buffy: You will miss the wedding..That is a good thing, isn't it??? You will have a great time.

We drove to Manhattan to go to Brett's church for Easter and met some friends from
our town at the church..Kids go to KSU, so we had a nice Easter dinner with them at
Valentinos..(nothing fancy, but it was fun)..There were 4 very tall KSU basketball
players eating there, too.

Welcome back MK. Did you guys have any storm damage while you were gone? I hope it passed right on by you and your mom's place too.

I was shocked that I weighed in at 149 this a.m. after the crazy weekend I had around here with way too much bad food everywhere. I'm doing a protein day today to try to get rid of all the bad stuff faster.

I'm so tired today!! Raining again here, and I'm doing laundry . . . . had lunch out the DH and visited the stockbroker for my mom. I know I should be eating better today, but I need all the energy I can get. Tomorrow is another day!
