We're going to see DH's parents tomorrow with the new baby for 2 more 5 generation pictures. We have 3 sets of 5 generations in our families. It's always a very trying day but with the rest of the family there I'm hoping it will go by faster and be easier.

MK, does DD live close by??

End of day-

Cal 1,648 Carbs 16 Fat 134 Protein 93

So obviously way to high on the protein, good on the fat and not enough carbs. I was out of the house most of the day which made it difficult. Plus I need to go shopping for some veggies. I'm assuming that's the best way to up the carbs is to increase my veggie intake, yeah? I would be thrilled if you said a donut would be better, but not holding my breath.

She's been living with us since last August.
She's my messy child too - and it's been making me crazy. We'll have a MUCH better relationship when she moves out!

Oooooo donuts!! Yum!

Carolyn is our resident expert on this WOE and she should be here soon.
She'll analyze your numbers.

I'll just think about that donut . . . . . Sigh.

Good morning...

Yeah, for your dd's new apartment.. It's good when messy kids have their own place..

Hi Chelsie: No on the donuts.. However, don't worry about being low on the carbs because it is not a must that you eat the 40 or so carbs on this plan. The true key is
the amount of protein..Keep it around 70 or a little more because protein acts like carbs. Just eat good healthy veggies, some fat, and a moderate amount of protein.

Sandy: I'm sure your inlaws will really love seeing a new little one..You are a nice daughter in law.. It is HOT here..going to be in the 90's.

Rachel and Brett arrived safely..Of course, they drove through a KS thunderstorm for many miles..Good thing I didn't know that.

Hmmm...on Chelsie's numbers..Let me think. I did a ballpark and your fat was 75 percent, which is a little high..Protein was around 20ish or so..and carbs were like 2 percent. It should be more like 15 percent carbs/25 percent protein/60 percent fat.

Thanks for the help Carolyn! I ran the numbers and I got 4% carbs 2.5% Protein and 73.5% fat.

I am so used to general low-carbing, it will take me a while to get the "meat is best" out of my head.

How many of you ladies actually follow the EFGT plan?

Hi gang,
see you all have been up to your usual antics.

Chelsie

What it takes to make us "young" women looking young and pretty, it gets very expensive, yes????

I had a hair cut/color on Thurs., it is very short but last time I got 7 weeks by doing this, so it saved me some money, my girl is quite expensive too but I love how she does my hair. And she is one of the few I have had that I can leave the salon looking right, like Carolyn says, so many of them make us "old" ladies look "old" when they do our hair, but my gal doesn't. I wish she could fix it every couple of days.

Ok, have been on a merry go round of doctors, I have formed a lump under my left eye that is getting bigger. Saw my primary dr., he sent me to an eye Dr., he sent me to an eye specialist, he sent me for a CT scan and then back to him. He says it is either from the filler I had injected last Sept???, or, it is FAT. Geez, must I have to deal with my weight and ALSO have FAT under just one eye? So, on Thurs., he injected a substance that would instantly dissolve it if it was the filler, he did, it started to go down, he proclaimed me cured and annouced it was the filler, and, the next day I get up and it is back. It did go down a little bit after the injection but didn't go down the rest of the way as it was supposed to do. So, I go back to him this week and then if it is not resolved, will get the CT scan, report and seek out another opinion. What a mess, oh, and now my eye is black from the injection he put in. I am one pretty woman, but at least I have a new haircut and color, eh? I should have had her paste me on some really long hair to hang over my left eye ala movie starlet of the 40's.

Going to rest this weekend!

Buffy, I hope they figure out what is going on with your eye soon. The worst is not knowing what the heck it is!!

My percentages for the day (assuming I eat what I entered)

Percentages- Protein 20 Carbs 4 Fat 76 with total Calories 1456

Here is what I ate (or will be eating, lol)

B- OMM with 1 tablespoon butter
L- 1/2 cup shredded chicken on a green salad with 4 tablespoons full-fat ranch dressing
D- 5oz of steak with 1 tablespoon butter on it, and a hefty serving of faux-tato salad made with cream and mayo.

Does this sound good? It's curbing my hunger so I am fine with it, but worried about adding extra carbs in. I'm worried it will trigger cravings. But at the same time, I would like to be able to add extra carbs in so I can have a more varied diet later. Are there some low GI veggies I can add in that would increase the carbs a bit?

I read a sample menu out of the book online, and it included a piece of toast for breakfast! Do any of you go that far as to have flat-out processed carby grains in your menu? This is kind of foreign to me, if you can't tell. LOL!

I will be having wine tonight (anniversary) so can that count as extra carbs? =)

So I added 2 cups of decaf with heavy cream that I just had. So now I'm at 78% fat %18 protein and 4% carbs.

Now I'm too high on fat, is that an issue? I don't know why I am obsessing about this. I mean it doesn't have to be exact, right.

Hi..

No, Chelsie, you don't have to be exact..but those fat calories really add up.. unfortunately. If you are losing, then it's working for you..Each of us is different...age, exercise, body type, etc..

Buffy: Oh dear on your eye..Do peeps think that your dh hit you? LOL..I'll be praying for a good resolution for you..

Hi Chelsie!
I do follow it (most of the time)! At least I'm no longer afraid of fat!
Fat keeps you full longer.

If I'm having a big workout day, I'll have a piece of whole grain bread with breakfast, but generally I still stay away from all of it.

Worked in the front garden today and it's looking good.
All it needs is a new covering of mulch to keep the weeds out.

DH is supposed to be working on the back . . . . do I dare go and look?

Have fun in the garden, MK..We had the lawn mowed today, so you can't see the dandelions at least for a few days.

Went to an auction tonight to benefit the elementary school where my kids went.
I won the coffee basket, a cat basket and a popcorn basket in the silent auction!!

The cats love all their fun stuff!

Carolyn - our grass hasn't grown enough to mow yet. We mainly have zoysia in the front and it's still brown!

Morning,
Hmmm, we have been mowing for a while already here in TX. Our backyard has a lot of trees and the big old pecan is dropping all those nasty thingies it drops in the spring, so the patio is covered with them. It is a messy tree but provides so much shade in the summer.

Might take in a movie today.

Chelsie, wow, your prictures sure show the results of your loss, great work.

Sandy, hope you are feeling better.

Carolyn, I agree, all the flowers they have out now are soooo pretty, if they would stay just like this. Although I did keep some petunias going and looking good for a long while last spring and early summer, then it just gets too hot here for anything.

Buffy, thank you for saying that. I knew it was time to take another pic, but it wasn't until I saw them side by side that I realized how far I've come! It's good motivation for me to keep going. How's your eye doing today?

Tuscangirl, I love silent auctions! You can get some really great stuff sometimes =) That's funny that you say that about being afraid of fat. When I first started on this board (when it was primarily Atkins) everyone was low-carbing and enjoying all-kinds of fat and protein. Then a bunch of people started counting calories and eating low-fat cheese (yuck!) and I could never get on board with that. I think that's the beauty of low-carb diets!! Eating all the "forbidden" high-fat foods! And not worrying about calories. Why deprive yourself of fat? I've always thought more fat was better... but know I know I was eating far to much protein! I guess I need to develop a fear of protein LOL!!!

Carolyn- Thanks again for helping me yesterday!

I was just thinking today would be a great day to start planting my summer garden. I'm going to plant tomatoes, zucchini, summer squash, chiles, strawberries (even though they never do very well, I always plant them anyways! LOL) I'm going to give lettuce another shot too. It gets hot here in the summer (it can get up to 110 sometimes!) so I have to plant the lettuce in pots that I can bring inside when it gets too hot. Kind of a pain.

Chelsie - where do you live? I'm in IL and warm as it was today (80°!) we don't usually plant until Mother's Day.

Awesome pics!!! You look wonderful!

Buffy - did you get to the movies? I watched an old sci fi one - The Forbidden Planet.
It was so funny - though they thought it was 'state-of-the-art when it was made!

Have you ever read anything by Susan Wittig Albert? She writes about a town in TX called Pecan Springs!

Good morning..

Went to Cato's and bought a bunch of capris..I'm retiring my older ones to Goodwill..Dh will be gone this week, so it will be good to clean out my closet..

Chelsie: Wowowoo..what a difference..You are so brave to take your picture, but you are looking hot..

MK: Coffee and cat baskets are my favorites..Glad your kittehs liked the toys, etc. Not to mention popcorn....(addicted to popcorn I am).

Our land is on a hill and not good for gardening, unfortunately...I might get some patio
tomatos, though..

Buffy: How is your eye???

Sandy: How was your weekend with new baby and inlaws? I'm sure they loved him...

We had a great weekend with Rachel and Brett..She is very sweet and quite adventurous..I think she is a daddy's girl cuz she loves to fish and bowl, etc...Her dad is an engineer so she understands
engineers..LOL..I guess.

MK- I live in SoCal, I usually plant in March, but it's been unusually cold and rainy so I have been holding off.

I ordered the book today, the natural eating one. I have Amazon prime, so it should be here on Wed. I hope it helps clarify everything for me.

I have been stalled at 166 or 3 weeks now. I havent been having cravings at all, but I was so frustrated so last night I ate 1/2 cup of Ben and Jerry's. I didn't even really want it, I just wanted something high carb to shake up my system. Surprisingly, I did not feel guilty about eating it, I felt in control so I knew it was not going to turn into a regular thing. It was delicious, but I stopped at 1/2 cup and was fine with that. I did not feel compelled to overeat like I would have in the past.

And to my surprise this morning I was down to 164. Wth? So it's either the fat is kicking in, or my metabolism just needed a jolt.

Yay!! Sometimes you do just need a jolt!

I did a lot of errands this morning and took a friend to lunch for her birthday.
So no cleaning today and no meeting this afternoon. I sent an email and canceled.
I need some 'me' time.

The weekend was nice. The great-great grandparents thought the baby was pretty special. Which of course he is! Lol. Dad got his pacemaker today and will get out in the a.m. just in time to head to dinner theater. The Dr. said he'll feel great and only has to refrain from overusing that arm for a while. So I sure hope he's right.

Carolyn, glad you liked the GF. That's always a bonus.

MK, I hope you get your Me time. I sure like mine when I can find it. Maybe next week.

I woke up with a stiff neck yesterday and it's not getting much better. Ugh. And I had to cancel my massage for tomorrow b/c of Dad. Sigh.

I just finished reading "The Hunger Games". Sad and thought provoking. Now I need to find the sequel to read.

How long did it take you guys to get used to eating in within the range of the precentages? Do you still enter in your food everyday? I get to the end of the day and find myself having to enter snacks in after dinner to try to balance everything out.

Today-
12% Carbs
18% Protein
70% Fat

I tried to add in 1 ounce of chicken to up my protein a little, but then I needed more fat and more carbs.... I ended up with a cream cheese "muffin" topped with organic blueberry jelly (with 8 grams of real sugars in it- yikes!I'm not used to that!) and two fresh clementine oranges (little mandarin ones) to get my carbs up.

I'm guessing I should spread those carbs out throughout the day now that I think about it.

My goal is to get to the point where I can just eat and not have to think about it =)

Morning,
New capris are always fun and although mine never seem to wear out, they do start looking tired, especially white ones. I bought quite a few pair last summer and have already bought 2 new pair this year, so hopefully, I don't need anymore.
Chelsie, I think most people log their foods for quite a while until they get used to the new WOE, or, just b/c they like to see they are staying in line.

Sandy, how is your neck, does it help to put a heating pad on it? How did the 5 generation pictures turn out?

My eye is about the same. I go back to the Dr. on Thurs. that injected the Wydace that was supposed to dissolve the filler and I assume he will inject some more. Yes Ciindy, it is strange to get the filler last Sept. and it only start showing up as a bump in February. It was Perlane or Restylane, not sculptra. I called the Dr. back this morning and asked them to email me the report from the radiologist that did the CT scan, I am pretty baffled and certainly hope it isn't something more serious as I am being bounced around from Dr, to Dr. trying to figure it out. This last Dr. seems sure it is the filler but he was also sure the injection last Thurs. would get rid of it, and it didn't.

MK, didn't get to the movies on Sunday, decided to stay home but did watch the first of the new series, UPstairs, Downstairs on PBS Sunday night, I have it set to record and think I will really enjoy that.

I am listening to Ken Follett "World Without End" right now, it is good. You gals keep giving me great ideas on books, I love it.

Better get a few things done before I leave for the Dr. Have to shop for DH whose birthday is Friday, he doesn't want or need anything but there is a certain color of shirt he always likes, so I am going to look for a couple of those. Kohl's and TJ's have good shirt prices.
